Phillips was nt alne in making such a mve. Last week, NPR annunced it t was clsing its nline cmments sectin. The decisins dn’t mean that the news utlets are n lnger interested in what their audiences are thinking. Bth stressed their eagerness t hear frm readers and listeners n scial netwrks. But bth agreed that cmments had deviated frm their riginal intentin. And s they had.
In the early days f digital jurnalism, cmments were seen as a key part f the new media, a wnderful pprtunity fr strengthening the dialgue between news prducers and their audiences. It was a welcme change, given that fr lng many news rganizatins were far t separated frm their readers. Much mre back and frth cnversatin seemed like healthy and welcme evlutins. Sadly, that’s nt the way things turned ut. Rather than a place fr exchanging ideas, cmments sectins became the hme f ugly name-calling, racism and anti-wmen language. Besides their pisnus quality, cmments seem ut f place tday.
“Since we made the annuncement, I’ve received an utpuring f respnses frm ur readers,”she says. “I’ve heard frm parents whse children were hurt by ur nline cmments. I’ve heard frm peple wh said they wuldn’t send in letters t the editr because they were attacked s fiercely by cmments, and it wasn’t wrth it.”

22.(8分) Are we alne in the universe? A team f scientists annunced n January 6, 2015 that they had identified eight planets beynd ur slar system, three r fur f which rbit in their stars’ “Gldilcks Zne” — the regin where temperatures are nt t ht r t cld fr water, which is a necessary ingredient fr life as we knw it, t exist liquid frm. This may be gd news fr peple hping that Earth is nt the nly inhabited wrld in the universe.
The scientists, led by Dr. Guilerm Trres f the Harvard-Smithsnian Center fr Astrphysics, made the discveries using data cllected by the planet-seeking Kepler telescpe.
NASA launched Kepler in 2009. Since then, the telescpe has identified mre than 1,000 planets utside f ur slar system. Trres and his team analyzed the data abut the eight newly discvered wrld t determine which nes are mst likely t be similar t ur Earth.
Amng the new discveries, the scientists say the planets called Kepler438b and 442b are the clsest t Earth. Kepler 438b is just abut 10% larger than ur planet, and gets 40% mre f its energy frm its star than Earth receives frm the Sun. Temperatures there wuld be abut 140 degrees. Kepler 442b is abut 33% larger than Earth, but receives 30% less energy frm its star. That wuld make it a ptentially chillier wrld than ur wn. Trres says it is pssible fr life t exist and survive in either f thse temperatures, but fr that t happen, these planets wuld need t have anther key ingredient fr life: a heat-trapping atmsphere like Earth’s.
While these findings add t the pssibility that life exists beynd Earth, Trres cautins against drawing cnclusins, “We are nt claiming they are inhabited,” he says. In fact, these planets are s far away that the scientists cannt bserve them directly, which can be explanatin fr why fr nw it remains unknwn whether these planets cntain life. But the discvery f planets in their stars’ habitable znes suggests that smewhere ut there, sme frm f alien life may have taken hld.
1、The scientists have identified eight planets, ________.
A.which are suitable fr humans t live n

C.They have made the discveries thrugh Kepler.
D.They have discvered ver 1000 planets in 7 years.
3、What is the pssible thing that Kepler 442b lacks fr life t exist n?
A.The waterB.The sunlight
C.The silD.The atmsphere

23.(8分)When we hear f dangerus diseases, cancer and heart disease are ften what first cme
t mind. Recently, a virus called Ebla has reappeared in Guinea, killing 62 peple s far. It leads t high fever, bleeding and s n. Ebla can kill 90% f thse infected (感染), especially in underdevelped scieties like thse in Africa.
Ebla is named after the Ebla River, where it was first discvered in 1976. There are five different types f the Ebla virus, each named after where they first happened: Sudan, Ivry Cast, Restn, Bundibugy, and Zaire. The deadliest f the five, Zaire, was respnsible fr the 2012 utbreak, and is believed t be attacking Guinea.
Ebla is naturally fund in fruit bats, which pass n the virus t ther animals by biting r sucking n their bld. Humans wh are suffering frm the Ebla infectin might have tuched the bdily fluids (体液) f the infected animals. Once infected, a human becmes a carrier f the deadly virus.
Since we live in an intercnnected wrld, where the situatin in ne cuntry can affect us all, the effects f Ebla are huge: damaging trade relatins, affecting freign visitrs, and weakening entire cuntries. Already the Guinea virus is spreading fast with a few cases sptted in Cnakry—the capital city f Guinea, far away frm the rigin f the virus. It is feared that the disease may have already reached neighbring Liberia and Sierra Lene, t.
Unfrtunately, there are n disease-specific treatments fr Ebla. Healthcare wrkers nly supply the infected peple with water t keep them in gd cnditin. Since there have been many cases f nurses catching the disease frm patients, they are frced t wear strict prtective clthes, and in sme cases, nt even allwed t get clse t the infected. The fact that there is n cure fr the Ebla virus is what makes the utbreak a challenging ne t cntrl.

24.(8分)A bite frm a tsetse fly (采采蝇) is an extremely unpleasant experience. It is nt like a msquit, which can put its thin muthpart directly int yur bld, ften withut yu nticing. In cntrast, the tsetse fly’s muth has tiny saws n it that saw int yur skin n its way t suck ut yur bld.
T make matters wrse, several species f tsetse fly can transmit diseases. One f the mst dangerus is a parasite that causes "sleeping sickness", r "human African trypansmiasis"t give it its fficial name. Withut treatment, an infectin is usually fatal.
Like s many trpical diseases, sleeping sickness has ften been neglected by medical researchers. Hwever, researchers have lng endeavred t understand hw it avids ur bdies’ defence mechanisms. Sme f their insights culd nw help us eliminate sleeping sickness altgether.
There are tw clsely-related single-celled parasites that cause this deathly sleep: Trypansma brucei rhdesiense and T. b. gambiense. The latter is far mre cmmn: it is respnsible fr up t 95% f cases, mstly in western Africa. It takes several years t kill a persn, while T. brucei rhdesiense can cause death within mnths. There are still ther frms that infect livestck.
After the initial bite, sleeping sickness symptms ften start with a fever, headaches and aching muscles. As the illness ges n, thse infected becme increasingly tired, which is where it gets its name. Persnality changes, severe cnfusin and pr crdinatin can als happen.
While medicatin des help, sme treatments are txic and can themselves be deadly, especially if they are given after the disease has reached the brain.
It is wrth nting that sleeping sickness is n lnger as deadly as it nce was. In the early 20th Century several hundred thusand peple were infected each year. By the 1960s the disease was cnsidered "under cntrl" and had reached very lw numbers, making its spread mre difficult. But in the 1970s there was anther majr epidemic, which tk 20 years t cntrl.
Since then, better screening prgrammes and earlier interventins have reduced the number f cases dramatically. In 2009 there were fewer than 10,000 cases fr the first time since recrds began, and in 2015 this figure drpped t fewer than 3,000, accrding t the latest figures frm the Wrld Health Organisatin. The WHO hpes the disease will be cmpletely eliminated by 2020.
While this decline lks psitive, there may be many mre cases that g unreprted in rural Africa. T eliminate the disease cmpletely, infectins have t be clsely mnitred.
Mre prblematically, a series f new studies have shwn that the parasite is mre cmplicated than previusly believed.
Sleeping sickness has always been cnsidered —— and diagnsed —— as a bld disease, because T. brucei parasites can readily be detected in the bld f its victims.
1、A tsetse fly is different frm a msquit in that________.
A.it can put its thin muthpart directly int yur bld
B.all species f tsetse fly can transmit diseases

B.The parasite causing "sleeping sickness" is easy t detect nw.
C.T. brucei parasites can nly be detected in the bld f its victims.
D.Data abut "sleeping sickness"cases may nt be s accurate.
4、What wuld be the best title f this passage ?
A.A msquit that can carry deadly diseases.
B.A bite frm this fly puts yu int a deadly sleep.
C.Symptms that are characteristic f "sleeping sickness".
D.Hw t cntrl deadly"sleeping sickness" frm a tsetse fly.
25.(10分)There’s n dubt that water is vital t any life. Abut 60 percent f the average adult human bdy is made f water. This includes mst f yur brain, heart, lungs, muscles and skin, and even abut 30 percent f yur bnes. Yet there’s little scientific agreement abut the exact amunt f the stuff an individual shuld cnsume each day. S hw much water d yu actually need t drink t be healthy?
Yu may have heard that yu shuld drink eight 8-unce glasses f water a day. Yet, the dwnside f this rule, researchers say, is that drinking water by the glass is nt the nly way that humans take in it. The “8 X 8” rule essentially verlks tw big surces f daily water cnsumptin. One such surce is fd. Everything yu eat cntains sme water. Watermelns, fr example, are mre than 90 percent water by weight. Different diets naturally cntain different amunts f waters, and the cunts. The ther key water surces are ther beverages. Nn-alchlic drinks such as cffee, and tea, cntain mstly water and all cntribute t yur hydratin(水量).
S, between all the fd, water and ther fluids yu cnsume in a day, hw much water shuld yu aim t take in?
The Natinal Academics f Sciences suggests that wman cnsume a ttal f apprximately 2.7 liters (91 unces) f warm frm all beverages and fds each day and men 3.7 liters (125 unces). But these are just general guidelines.
The truth is, there is n magic standard fr hydratin—everyne’s need vary depending n their age, weight, level f physical activity, general health and even the climate they live in. The mre water yu lse, the mre water yu’ll need t replace with fd and drink. If yu are lking fr cncrete advice, thugh, the best place t lk is within. Drink up when yu’re thirsty.
