      Time Travel
If yu culd travel in time, where wuld yu g? Perhaps yu wuld watch an riginalperfrmance f a Shakespeare’s play in Elizabethan England?
What abut hanging ut with Lazi in the Spring and Autumn Perid? Or
maybe yu’d vyage far ahead f the present day t see what the future hlds.
The pssibility f time travel is indeed appealing. Stries explring the
subject have been arund fr hundreds f years. Perhaps the best knwn
example is science fictin nvel The Time Machine, which was written by
and published in 1895 fr the first time. It was adapted int at least tw feature films f the same name, as well as tw televisin versins, and a large number f cmic bk adaptatins. It is generally credited with the ppularizatin f the cncept f time travel using a vehicle that allws an peratr t travel purpsefully and selectively. The term “time machine”, cined by
Wells, is nw universally used t refer t a vehicle transprting peple int the far future.
But culd time travel actually be pssible? Sme scientists say yes, in thery. They prpse
using cracks in time and space called“wrmhles”,which culd be used as shrtcuts t ther
perids.Einstein's thery f relativity allws time travel in extreme circumstances. And British
physicist Stephen Hawking says yu culd travel int the future with a really fast
spaceship—ging at nearly the speed f light.Thugh building such a spaceship wuld f curse
      be n simple task.
Even if yu culd travel int the past, there is smething called the “grandfather
paradx”.It asks what wuld happen if a time traveler were t g back in time and have his wn
grandfather killed fr sme reasn, and therefre prevent himself frm being brn.If the time
traveler wasn't brn, hw wuld he travel back in time?
And wuld yu really like t visit the future? In H.G.Wells' bk,the main character travels
int distant time where he arrives at a beach and is attacked by giant crabs. He then vyages 30
millin years int the future where the nly living thing is a black bject with tentacles(触角).w!w!w.!x!k!b!1.cm
If that's what's in stre, maybe we are better just living in the present day after all.
63.The nvel The Time Machine mentined in Paragraph 2 aims t shw___________.
A.Peple's interest in time travel B.the special feature f the bk
      C.the lng histry f time travel D.the cntributin f H.G.Wells

B.the traveler ges back in time t seek fr his grandfather
C.the grandfather's death makes the traveler's birth impssible
D.The reunin f the traveler and his grandfather brings happiness
66.Accrding t the passage, what is prbably the authr's attitude twards time travel?
      A.Unclear. B.Skeptical. C.Supprtive.D.Uncncerned.
      D
Speed-reading is a necessary skill in the Internet age.We skim ver articles, e-mails and
WeChat t try t grasp key wrds and the essential meaning f a certain text.Surrunded with
infrmatin frm ur electrnic devices, it wuld be impssible t cpe if we read wrd by wrd,
line by line. But a new trend calls n peple t unplug and enjy reading slwly, listing benefits
      beynd the intelligent stimulatin.
A recent stry frm The Wall Street Jurnal reprted n a bk club in Wellingtn, New
Zealand, where members meet in a cafe and turn ff their smartphnes. They sink int czy chairs
and read in silence fr an hur. Unlike traditinal bk clubs, the pint f the slw reading
club isn't exchanging ideas abut a certain bk, but t get away frm electrnic devices and read
in a quiet, relaxed envirnment. Accrding t the Jurnal, the Wellingtn bk club is just ne
example f a mvement started by bk lvers wh miss the ld-fashined way f reading befre

Slw readers, such as The Atlantic's Maura Kelly, say a regular reading habit sharpens the
mind, imprves cncentratin, reduces stress levels and deepens the ability t
sympathize. Anther study published last year in Science shwed that reading nvels helps
peple understand ther's mental states and beliefs, a fundamental skill in building relatinships.
Yet technlgy has made us less attentive readers. Screens have changed ur reading
patterns frm the straight and infrmatin.left-t-right sequence t a wild skimming and skipping
pattern as we hunt fr imprtant wrds and infrmatin. Reading text punctuated with links leads
t weaker cmprehensin than reading plain text. The Internet may have made us stupider, says
Patrick Kingsley frm The Guardian. Because f the Internet, he says, we have becme very
gd at cllecting a wide range f interesting news, but we are als gradually frgetting hw t sit
back, reflect, and relate all these facts t each ther.
Slw reading means a return t an uninterrupted, straight pattern, in a quiet envirnment free
f distractins. Aim fr 30 minutes a day, advises Kelly frm The Atlantic. “Yu can squeeze in
that half hur pretty easily if nly during yur free mments, yu pick up a meaningful wrk f
literature,” Kelly said. “Reach fr yur e-reader, if yu like. Kindles make bks like War and
Peace less heavy, nt less substantive, and als ensure yu'll never lse yur place.”
67.The bk club in Wellingtn mentined in Paragraph 2 shws____________.
A.the new trend f slw reading B.the decline f electrnic devices
C.the imprtance f exchanging ideas D.the increasing number f club readers

      A.a nn-stp reading pattern B.the straight, left-t-right screen
C.a wide range f interesting news D.the lack f reflectin
69.Accrding t the passage, slw reading___________.

      B.prmtes the current technlgy advances
C.prvides peple with a quiet envirnment
D.cures the memry lss f elderly peple
