Cammarta’s interest in China began mre than 20 years ag. A Chinese student stayed in her hme and tld her a lt abut the cuntry’s rich cultural heritage (文化遗产).
Cammarta plans t spend tw years in China. She will visit key stps alng the ancient Silk Rad: first Kashgar (喀什), Dunhuang, and then the histric city f Xi’an. As a result, the strait is effectively clsed. Oil prducers in the regin have been frced t cut utput by at least 10 millin barrels per day—the largest supply disruptin in histry.
The impact n il prices has been dramatic. Befre the crisis, Brent crude il cst abut $71 per barrel. By March 9, 2026, the price had surged t $94 per barrel. At ne pint, prices briefly apprached $120. The Internatinal Energy Agency (IEA) warned that if the clsure cntinues, il prices culd g even higher.
