Pwerlifting, a strength sprt where peple try t lift the mst weight pssible, is ften seen as a sprt fr the yung and athletes. But Faith O’Reilly, an 82-year-ld grandma frm Clrad, is ready t challenge this idea. She’ll sn get t shw her abilities at a natinal cmpetitin.
Brn in St. Luis, O’Reilly mved with her family t Des Mines. She then attended the University f Iwa, where she discvered weightlifting. “While I was in law schl, I met sme peple wh were ding weightlifting, and they invited me t g t a pwerlifting meet,” she said. “I watched it and thught, ‘Well, I can d that.’” And she indeed did it.
O’Reilly did well, even winning sme state champinships. Hwever, she had t mve t St. Paul, Minnesta fr wrk, which resulted in her having less and less time t practice, finally leading her t drp lifting cmpletely.
After she retired (退休) in 2007, O’Reilly rediscvered her lve fr the sprt. She had visited a small twn called Saguache in Clrad with her granddaughter and lved it. S she decided t live there. With mre free time and green landscapes, she started lifting again. She even set up her wn gym with special safety bars, s she can train anytime she wants. Nw, she is amng great lder lifters like 95-year-ld Catherine Kuehn and 81-year-ld Nra Langdn.
