Many high schl students hld the belief that reducing sleep can gain extra time fr academic study. They stay up late ding hmewrk, cnvinced that less sleep brings mre success. But cutting sleep destrys the very thing that helps us learn. A recent survey cnducted by the Natinal Sleep Fundatin indicates that nearly 70% f high schl students sleep less than eight hurs each night, and mst f them are getting wrse results at schl.
Sleep is the brain’s filing system. What we learn during the day stays nly in shrt-term memry. Only during deep sleep des the brain srt infrmatin and turn knwledge int lng-term memry. Researchers frm Stanfrd University fund that students with 7-9 hurs f sleep each night remember 30% mre than thse wh sleep less than six hurs. What yu study late at night may be lst because yur brain cannt stre it prperly.
Sleep als prepares yu fr the next day. With enugh sleep, yur brain is alert and ready t fcus. Withut it, yu feel tired and slw. Scientists have cnfirmed that peple withut enugh sleep pssess 25% lwer ability t fcus and slve prblems, stpping students frm staying attentive in class and cmpleting learning tasks efficiently. S less sleep des nt give yu mre time — it makes yu waste the time yu have.

Sme say that sleep is a symbl f laziness. This is wrng. Think f tw students: ne studies six hurs with sund sleep, while the ther studies eight hurs while tired. The first ne learns mre in less time. Sleep is nt the enemy f study — it makes study wrk better.
In cnclusin, quality sleep is necessary fr learning, health, and happiness. Learn t rest well, and yu will learn well.

When the music hits just right, we tap ur feet, snap ur fingers and begin t mve. This pleasurable urge t mve t music is what scientists call grve. Researchers have reprted that even 3-mnth-ld infants spntaneusly mve t the music.
When the musical rhythm is nt cmpletely predictable, it invites us t mve and “fill in the beat”, said Maria Witek, an assciate prfessr f music at Britain’s University f Birmingham wh researches music cgnitin. The pwer f grve is that “it makes music this distributed prcess that we actively take part in and blurs the bundary between music and bdy and mind,” she said.
Hwever, nt all music gets us mving. One key musical element appears t be rhythmic cmplexity. Research has cnsistently reprted an inverted-U relatinship between reprts f grve and syncpatin (切分音) — interruptins f the music’s regular time signature (拍号), and an element f rhythmic cmplexity. Peple tend t find music that is mderately cmplex in rhythm prduces mre feelings f grve than music with a lw-r high-cmplexity rhythm.
Researchers therize that ne f the brain’s main functins is t predict what the wrld will thrw at us and cmpare it with what actually happens. If smething is nt in line with the brain’s predictin, we get a predictin errr. “The idea is that we have this srt f fundamental drive t minimize predictin errrs,” said Tmas Matthews f Aarhus University’s Center fr Music in the Brain. Peple tend t grve t music that has a predictable time signature, but the ntes may vary, adding t its difficulty in predicting. Mving t music adds sensry input that helps minimize predictin errr by reinfrcing the underlying time signature. With just the right amunt f cmplexity, figuring ut what cmes next becmes enjyable.
Music is ften a shared experience that brings peple tgether. Peple mve tgether when listening t the same music, and research has shwn that this kind f mving tgether helps them feel mre cnnected and encurages prscial (亲社会的) behavir. In this way, music may serve as an imprtant rle in strengthening scial bnds.
      32. What can we learn abut “grve”?
      A. It arises frm ttally unpredictable rhythms.
      B. It cnnects music with ur bdy and mind.
      C. It sets clear bunds between music and the bdy.
      D. It mainly inspires yung peple t mve t beats.
      33. What kind f music makes peple mst want t “grve” accrding t the passage?
      A. Music with a medium level f rhythmic cmplexity
      B. Music with strng syncpatin and rhythmic cmplexity.
      C. Music with cmplete ignrance f regular time signature.
      D. Music with the cnstant interruptins f time signature.
      34. Why d peple tend t mve their bdies t music?
      A. Mving t music imprves the brain’s predictin speed.
      B. Mving t music helps the brain reduce predictin errrs.
      C. The brain achieves pleasure by prducing predictin errrs.
      D. Music can prmte mvement by increasing its cmplexity.
      35. What des the authr imply in the last paragraph?
      A. Prscial behavir is the main gal f mving t music.
      B. Strng scial bnds help peple enjy shared music better.
      C. Music nly strengthens bnds when peple listen in grups.
      D. The scial effect f music is linked t the experience f grve.

AI can als enhance hw we think if used crrectly. Humans have limited wrking memry, typically hlding nly three t five pieces f infrmatin at a time. ____40____ It keeps key infrmatin accessible, s ur brains can fcus n analyzing and prblem-slving. The key is balance: fflad rutine tasks, but stay engaged with the thinking that matters. Use AI t amplify — nt replace — yur cgnitive abilities.
      A. The truth is prbably smewhere in the middle.
      B. Users stay actively invlved, using AI as a partner.

In the blistering heat f 90 degrees Fahrenheit, I watched an elderly wman struggle frward with heavy grcery bags ver her arms, pausing every few steps t catch her breath. Withut a secnd thught, I pulled ver t ffer her a lift.
Her name was Ida. As she settled int the passenger seat, she directed me suth, explaining she had missed the last bus hme. We drve thrugh streets I had never seen befre — past a bridge where hmeless figures stayed in cardbard shelters, past faded billbards and brken sidewalks. Unease began t creep in as the neighbrhd grew rugher and the sun dipped lwer, painting the sky in shades f amber and shadw.
When we finally pulled up t her apartment building, my anxiety munted. A grup f yung men were hanging arund utside the entrance — sme sitting n mtrcycles, thers leaning against the graffiti-cvered walls. Amng them was a tall figure with lng hair spilling frm beneath a hdie (连帽衫). His eyes lcked nt mine, and a playful smile spread acrss his face. It was the kind f smile that made my stmach clench and my skin prickle with warning.
Hdlum (小混混), I thught. My hands tightened n the steering wheel withut thinking. Hurriedly, I helped Ida unlad her bags, setting my purse dwn casually, then drve away quickly. My chest lsened nly when the rearview (后视镜) mirrr swallwed the last trace f that place.
Thankfully, the GPS sn helped me find my way thrugh unfamiliar rads in the dark. I turned n the radi, letting familiar meldies fill the silence, trying t shake ff the lingering fear. But just as the tensin began t fade, a sharp rar brke the peace. A mtrcycle appeared in my mirrr — headlight flashing, engine raring. I recgnized him instantly: the hdie, the lng hair, the same unsettling figure frm Ida’s building. He pulled up clse, matching my speed, and gestured urgently fr me t stp.
