We all experience mments when ur thughts drift away frm what we're ding. Scientists call this "mind wandering". Past research has mstly fcused n hw ur minds wander t memries r future plans. This "cgnitive" mind wandering is linked t bth creativity and distress (悲伤).
Hwever, a new study suggests we als frequently engage in "bdy wandering" — when spntaneus (自发的) thughts turn t bdily sensatins like ur heartbeat r breath. "The effects f this have been largely verlked," says neurscientist Michael Allen.
T investigate, Allen's team had 536 peple lie in an MRI scanner. Afterward, they reprted what was n their minds. Besides typical daydreams, many reprted paying attentin t bdily sensatins. The MRI scans supprted this, shwing that "bdy wandering" had a different frm f brain functin than cgnitive mind wandering.
The findings revealed a cmplex picture. In the mment, peple wh reprted mre bdy wandering during the scan als reprted feeling mre distress. Study cauthr Leah Banellis ntes that the cnfined (狭窄的) MRI envirnment might have influenced this.
Yet, the brader picture tld a different stry. Overall, participants wh tended t engage in bdy wandering mre ften in daily life shwed fewer symptms f depressin and attentin-deficit/hyperactivity disrder (ADHD). Bth cnditins are ften assciated with excessive traditinal mind wandering and pr interceptin —the ability t sense ne's internal bdily state.
"While fcusing n the bdy might feel unpleasant in a stressful mment, a general tendency t tune int bdily signals culd have a prtective effect ver time, " Banellis explains. It might help grund individuals likely t fall int harmful cycles f negative thinking
A key limitatin, accrding t peer reviewer Aarn Kucyi, is that inner thughts were measured nly nce. "Mind wandering is dynamic. A single measure might miss its slight differences," he says. "Despite this, the study is influential fr ptentially bridging tw separate fields f research: interceptin and mind wandering. "
28.What aspect f bdy wandering des the research fcus n?
      A. Its effects.B. Its symptms.C. Its causes.D. Its variety.
      29. What did the MRI scans shw abut bdy wandering?
      A. A distinct brain activity.B. A strng persnal preference.
      C. Greatly enhanced attentin.D. Limited technlgical bservatin.
      30. What did Allen's team find abut bdy wandering?
      A. It is artificial and measurable.
      B. It is time—saving and wrthwhile.
      C. It leads t dangerus thughts but healthier bdy.
      D. It causes shrt-term negative emtins but lng-term benefits.
      31. What is Aarn Kucyi's attitude t the study?
      A. Supprtive.B. Dubtful.C. Reserved.D. Unclear.

Tday, cncrete prductin accunts fr rughly 8 percent f glbal carbn emissins, which is abut a quarter f all industry carbn emissins. Frtunately, the ancient Rmans might have taught us a thing r tw abut manufacturing cncrete that lasts fr thusands f years.
A new study has strictly analyzed the raw materials and energy demands f the ancient recipe f Rman cncrete, revealing sme useful ways t imprve mdern cement (水泥). Surprisingly, researchers fund that prducing Rman cncrete requires mre water and mre greenhuse gas emissins than cmmnly used cncrete tday. But while the initial energy csts may be higher, it may nt need t be replaced r repaired as ften.
It's hard t cmpare the lngevity f Rman cncrete t mdern cncrete, because tday, many cncrete buildings and structures are reinfrced with steel. As steel rusts (生锈), it expands, frcing any surrunding cncrete t crack and degrade in as little as a decade. By cmparisn, ancient Rman cncrete is capable f restring itself. This means that when cracks appear in the cement, they are naturally glued back tgether when leaks in. That's part f the water reasn ancient Rman seawalls have lasted fr centuries, despite the cnstant ersin (侵蚀) f seawater.
Daniela Martinez, lead authr and engineer f the University f the Nrth in Clumbia acknwledges that lnger-lasting cement structures "can nly partially balance ut increased demand fr new material," but Rman manufacturing methds may als hld ther envirnmental benefits.
Rman cncrete prduces far fewer dangerus air pllutants, pssibly because the limestne, the main ingredient f Rman cncrete, is burned using clean wd, nt fssil (化石) fuels. Accrding t recent mdels, using Rman cement techniques culd reduce harmful gas emissins by up t 98 percent cmpared t mdern methds. "There are a lt f lessns that we can draw frm the Rmans. If we can incrprate their strategies with ur mdern innvative ideas, we can create a mre sustainable built envirnment." says Martinez.
      32. Hw des the authr present the backgrund f the study?
      A. By giving examples.
      B. By prviding statistics.
      C. By defining a cncept.
      D. By describing a scene.
      33. What can be inferred abut Rman cncrete?
      A. It has a shrt service life.
      B. It needs regular maintenance.
      C. It prves sustainable ver time.
      D. It requires lw initial energy csts.
      34. Which wrd can best describe the prperty f ancient Rman cncrete?
      A. Ever-lasting. B. Self-healing. C. Easy-cutting. D. Safe-guarding.
      35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Green Living, A New Path.
      B. Carbn Crisis, A Mdern Issue.
      C. Magic Pwer, A Rman Mystery.
      D. Ancient Recipe, A Pssible Slutin.

My lder brther, Le, has always been the respnsible ne — the rule-fllwer, the rganizer, the ne wh made sure everything was in its prper place. I used t admire that abut him. Until the summer I turned sixteen.
That was the summer I built my treehuse. It wasn’t fancy — just a few wden planks nailed between the strng branches f the ld ak in ur backyard. But it was mine. I painted the railings (围栏) blue, hung a wind chime (铃) I made frm bttle caps, and placed a small wden bx inside where I kept my treasures: a fssil I had fund, a letter frm my best friend, and a pht f ur dg Max, wh had passed away the year befre. That treehuse was my wrld, the place where I felt safe and free. And Le knew it.
One afternn, I came hme frm a friend’s huse t find Le in the backyard with a saw(锯子) in his hand. The blue railings were gne. The wind chime lay brken n the grass. The treehuse was half destryed, its wden planks scattered n the grund like fallen leaves.
“What did yu d?” I screamed, my vice shaking with disbelief. Le didn’t lk up. “Dad said it was unsafe. The branches were rtting. It culd have fallen at any time.” “Yu didn’t even ask me!” I shuted back. I std there, trembling with anger. He had taken smething I lved and trn it apart withut a wrd. “I hate yu,” I whispered. Then I turned and walked away, my eyes burning with tears. Fr tw weeks, I didn’t speak t him. He left ntes n my desk. I threw them away. He kncked n my dr. I lcked it. During thse weeks, I nticed he spent every evening in the garage, and I culd hear the sunds f hammering and sawing late int the night.
