Seven children line up,awaiting their turn n a slide. As each child rushes dwn, the nes behind laugh and cheer. Such scene is rare in Lags, ne f Africa’s fastest-grwing cities, with a ppulatin f abut 17 millin. But n the city’s suburbs, a garbage-site-turned- park is prviding rm fr kids t play. The prject is the brainchild f 17-year-ld Amara Nwuneli,wh wants t prve that even in Lags’ mst crwded crners, children can have fun.
Fr Amara, the path t building parks began when a terrible fld struck her hmetwn in
2020. Heavy rains swallwed entire neighbrhds, leaving thusands f families hmeless.
“Peple just said it was gvernment failure r bad luck. ”Amara recalls. But, later, she realized it was what was called Nigeria’s “climate apathy” : the tendency t view flds, heat waves, and
drughts as islated (孤立的) incidents rather than cnsequences f a warming planet.
“I wanted t change the mindset,” Amara says. “If peple dn’t feel cnnected t nature, they wn’t fight t prtect it. And I knew that had t start with creating spaces peple culd actually see and feel.”
It was n easy task. Amara first apprached the Lags State Gvernment, which ffered
land but impsed (施加) restrictins that made lng-term cnstructin impssible. After mnths f dead ends, she shifted strategy and started lking fr alternative spaces that were accessible t
high-risk cmmunities. Eventually, Amara secured a garbage site. She then mbilized a team f artists, vlunteers, and small dnrs t clear the trash and rebuild the site with recycled materials. Three mnths later, the park pened.
Amara is nw planning tw mre parks. She says cmmunities frm acrss the cuntry
have been reaching ut t her team fr advice n hw t recycle abandned spaces fr public use. “That creates a kind f cycle,” Amara reflects. “I take actin, thers ntice, they want t take
actin, t. And tgether, it grws.”
24 .What might be a prblem Lags is facing?
A .Insufficient public areas. B .Pr garbage management.
C .Limited recreatinal (娱乐的) activities. D .Uncntrlled ppulatin grwth.
25 .What made Amara determined t build parks?

C .Disappintment in gvernment failure. D .Nigeria’s inadequacy in public educatin.
26 .What quality des Amara demnstrate when cmpleting the prject?

C .All rads lead t Rme. D .It is never t late t act.

Giraffes have ne f the mst recgnizable shapes n the planet. “They walk s gracefully that it lks like they are flating acrss the grassland,” says Michael Brwn, an eclgist with the Giraffe Cnservatin Fundatin (GCF).
Our familiarity with these tall animals can smetimes hide their declining numbers,
masking a “silent extinctin”. Expanding agriculture and human cmmunities acrss Africa have destryed r fragmented large areas f the grassland where giraffes need t find fd, causing a 40 percent decline in giraffe species since 1985. Nubian giraffes, a critically endangered subspecies
fund in Suth Sudan, Ethipia, Uganda and Kenya, have lst an estimated 95 percent f their ppulatin. Tday they’re dwn t perhaps 3,000 animals.
This crisis recently led GCF t partner with African Parks, a cnservatin grup managing Badingil and Bma Natinal Parks in Suth Sudan. They aim t track, study and prtect the
      giraffes.
Tracking giraffes presents a challenge. GPS cllars typically g arund the neck, but giraffe necks, six feet lng and varying in thickness, aren’t suited fr cllars; the devices slide dwn when the animal lwers its head. Researchers tried anklets (踝环), chest harnesses and even tags n their hrn-like nubs, but nthing wrked fr lng, says Sara Fergusn, a GCF wildlife veterinarian.
Recent technlgical advances have shrunk trackers t the size f a candy bar, small
enugh t attach t the tail r an ear. The new tags are slar-pwered, less nticeable and shuld
last a year r mre. In April, 2024, Fergusn and thers frm African Parks went acrss Badingil and Bma by helicpter and attached trackers t 11 Nubian giraffes. The data cllected will help identify where they mainly live and g within the parks’ 7.4 millin acres, ptentially driving their expansin and shwing where extra patrls t limit illegal hunting r cmmunity educatin t
encurage lcal supprt fr cnservatin can save giraffe lives. “We can’t cnserve what we dn’t understand,” says Julian Fennessy, c-funder and cnservatin directr f GCF. “We need these data t prtect this landscape befre it’s t late.”
28 .What has caused a 40 percent decline in giraffe species since 1985?
A .Disease utbreaks. B .Climate change. C .Habitat lss. D .Illegal hunting.
29 .Why are traditinal GPS cllars unsuitable fr giraffes?
A .They are t heavy. B .They fall ff easily.
C .They prvide inaccurate data. D .They affect the giraffes’ mvement.
30 .What is the main gal ftracking the giraffes?
A .T mnitr their health states.
B .T study their scial structure.
C .T detect threats frm ther species.
D .T identify their key habitats and rutes.
31 .Which wuld be the best title fr the text?
A .Giraffe-tracking innvatins B .Technlgy fr wildlife prtectin
C .Cperative cnservatin effrts D .The silent extinctin f Nubian giraffes

Everyne relies n bias — therwise knwn as cgnitive (认知的) shrtcuts — in their
daily lives. Fr example, imagine yu’re scrlling thrugh yur scial media feed and
immediately dismiss a news article because it cmes frm a surce yu dn’t typically trust. This scenari highlights hw autmatic and uncnscius the mental prcess can be.
These biases aren’t character flaws. Thusands f years ag, this type f quick
decisin-making ensured the safety f ancient humans. Althugh these mental shrtcuts served us well lng ag, they dn’t always translate well t ur cmplex mdern wrld. Fr several decades, psychlgy researchers have been testing interventins t help peple becme aware f and
      minimize their biases.
A new systematic review published in Nature Human Behaviur ffers the mst
cmprehensive analysis f bias training t date. Researchers cmbined results frm 54
randmized cntrlled trials invlving nearly 11,000 students t determine whether educatinal
interventins can reduce cgnitive biases. The studies used a wide range f appraches, including games, nline simulatins, classrm instructin, vide-based training, and grup discussins.
The analysis fund that these interventins led t a small but significant reductin in biased thinking.
The mst successful interventins frm the studies fcused n teaching specific cgnitive strategies t neutralize (中立化) particular biases. These strategies include actively seeking ut cntradictry evidence when evaluating a claim and using structured checklists t avid jumping t cnclusins.
Interestingly, the research revealed that sme biases are harder t avid than thers. Fr
example, peple are mre likely t cling t steretypes (成见), such as assuming that smene
wh wears glasses and reads a lt is a librarian. It remains unclear whether these lessns transfer beynd the classrm; just because smene can avid cnfirmatin bias in an nline test desn’t
mean they will use thse skills in the real wrld. Researchers said this gap between labratry perfrmance and real-wrld applicatin represents the next frntier in bias research.
This field is imprtant because cgnitive biases can have far-reaching cnsequences in
mdern sciety, influencing medical diagnses, public plicy decisins, electins, and mre. The take-hme message: This review prvides slid evidence that bias reductin is pssible.
32 .Hw did bias help ancient humans?
A .Strengthen mental prcess. B .Make quick and safe decisins.
C .Imprve uncnscius learning. D .Enhance scial cmmunicatin.
33 .Which methd is mst effective fr lessening specific biases?
A .Having grup discussins. B .Watching an instructinal vide.
C .Thinking critically abut an event. D .Cnducting vide-based experiments.
34 .What remains a majr challenge in bias research accrding t the text?
A .The lack f research funding. B .The absence f effective tls.
C .The gap between lab and reality. D .The unwillingness f participants.
35 .What is the best title fr the text?
A .Scientists Find New Ways t Train Our Brains
B .Bias Training Prves Ineffective in New Study
C .Steretypes Remain the Biggest Challenge fr Sciety
D .Evidence Grws That Cgnitive Bias Can Be Reduced

I put n a headset, and within secnds I am smewhere else. Ice sheets flat n dark water. Wind brushes past my ears, sharp and restless. In the distance, muntains glw (发光) under the mnlight. Mments later, I find myself inside a museum, leaning clse t a painting I have never seen in real life. 36 This is the prmise f virtual reality (VR): a wrld delivered t us
      withut leaving hme.
There is much t appreciate in this frm f travel. 37 There is n need t cnsider weather cnditins, health issues r financial pressure. Yu may enter distant places at any
mment and leave just as freely. Fr thse restricted by schedule, health, r incme, VR quietly remves barriers that traditinal travel ften sets in place.
38 Travelers wander thrugh unfamiliar streets, sample lcal dishes, and engage face-t-face with peple shaped by different traditins. Such encunters awaken the senses and create lasting memries. Mre imprtantly, they change hw places feel t us, nt just hw we understand them.
This distinctin is clear, because learning abut a destinatin is nt the same as being there. Virtual travel ffers designed scenes and prgrammed sensatins, but it remains carefully
cntrlled. Real travel, by cntrast, is shaped by unpredictability. 39 In thse unplanned mments, understanding becmes lived rather than recrded.
Virtual reality will undubtedly cntinue t evlve, enriching hw we preview jurneys and imagine distant wrlds. Still, it cannt replace actual presence. Travel is nt simply abut seeing
farther; it is als abut feeling where yu stand. 40
A .I am nt mving, yet I am traveling.
B .Yet real travel leaves a deeper mark.
C .My feet ache as my jurney stretches acrss the day.
D .Virtual jurneys are cnvenient, time-saving, and widely accessible.
E .Sme knwledge, it seems, nly arrives when yur feet are n the grund.
F .It demands chices, adaptatin, and cnstant awareness f the unexpected.
G .But the cnvenience may gradually weaken ur desire t explre the real wrld.
