      Zheng Chenggng (1624-1662), als knwn as Kxinga, is best knwn fr setting up Chinese cntrl ver Taiwan.
      Zheng was brn in Hirad, Japan t a Japanese mther and a Chinese father. His father was given an fficial psitin by the Ming Dynasty, s he mved t Fujian Prvince at seven. Zheng was given a Cnfucian educatin in Nanjing in 1644.
      The next year, the Ming Dynasty gave way t the Qing Dynasty. When Qing Dynasty frces entered Fujian, his father surrendered (投降). But Zheng, being against his father’s rders, made up his mind t rebuild the Ming Dynasty and began t build up land and naval frces (海军).
      Over the next 12 years, Zheng had built a strng psitin n the Fujian cast, centered n the islands f Xiamen and Jinmen. In 1659, Zheng carried ut ne f his mst imprtant actins. With a frce f mre than 100,000 up the Yangtze River, he succeeded. There, hwever, wrng decisins led t a terrible lss.
      Facing increasing pressure, he hit upn the plan f taking Taiwan frm the Dutch (荷兰人). In 1661, he landed n Taiwan and fught fr nine mnths. At last, the Dutch surrendered and left Tainan. Zheng then set up a gverning system, settled the island with his sldiers and families frm Fujian and spread Chinese culture. His larger gals were cut shrt by his death in 1662.
