CPR is a life-saving technique. T d CPR, yu press n the sick persn’s chest s that bld mves thrugh the bdy and takes xygen t rgans. Withut xygen, the brain is damaged quickly.

Taylr’s swift actin helped her teammates calm dwn. One girl called 911. Tw mre ran t get the schl nurse, wh brught a defibrillatr, an electrnic device that can shck the heart back int wrk. Luck stayed with them: Paris’s heartbeat returned.
“I knw I was really lucky,” Paris says nw. “Mst peple dn’t survive this. My team saved my life.”
Experts say Paris is right: Fr a sudden heart failure, the single best chance fr survival is having smene nearby step in and d CPR quickly.
Tday, Paris is back n the sftball team. Taylr will apply t cllege sn. She wants t be a nurse. “I feel mre cnfident in my actins nw,” Taylr says. “I knw I can act under pressure in a scary situatin.”

We’ve all been in a psitin where ur phne runs ut f battery, but we dn’t have anywhere t charge it. Well, what if the clthing yu were wearing culd help yu ut? It’s an ptin that isn’t as strange as yu might think. Nw the latest fashin breakthrugh is taking “activewear” in an entirely new directin: researchers at Nttingham Trent University have develped a new fabric that can keep small devices charged.
The prttype (原型) includes 1,200 tiny slar panels, each measuring just 5 by 1.5 millimeters. It can generate 400 milliwatts f electrical energy, enugh t charge electrnic devices.
“Until nw very few peple have cnsidered their clthing prducts culd be used fr charging electrnic devices,” explains Thedre Hughes-Riley, an assciate prfessr f Electrnic Textiles. “The material which we have develped appears and behaves the same as any rdinary fabric, as it can be washed in a machine. Besides, because the tiny slar cells are cmprised f silicn (硅), wearers aren’t able t even ntice a discrepancy between the fabric’s cmpsitin and that f standard clthing.”
Ptential prducts include items like uterwear, backpacks and ther carrying bags using the material, all f which culd allw wearers t keep their devices charged during the day. “Electrnic fabrics really have the ptential t change peple’s relatinship with technlgy, as this prttype shws hw we culd live withut charging many devices n the wall,” adds Thedre.
Slar pwer innvatins are key t transfrming human sciety frm fssil fuel technlgies, and are cming int a variety f fields. The Eurpean Space Agency, fr example, plans t experiment with slar panel systems rbiting abve Earth. Since there are n real “days” r “nights” in space, ptential slar pwer generatin culd be as much as 8 r 9 times greater than what’s currently achievable here n Earth’s surface. As pwerful as that may ne day be fr us, it’s encuraging t knw even changes like the cmpsitin f ur clthing can help prmte the necessary renewable energy shift fr ur species.
      8. Why is the new fabric special?
      A. It can adjust peple’ bdy temperatures.
      B. It can change clthes’ clrs in the sun.
      C. It can prduce electricity frm sunlight.
      D. It is much tugher than standard clthing.
      9. What des the underlined wrd “discrepancy” in paragraph 3mean?
      A. Distinctin.B. Mismatch.C. Imprvement.D. Similarity.
      10. Hw des the innvatin impact ur relatinship with technlgy accrding Thedre?
      A. By making electrnic devices much cheaper.
      B. By decreasing the demand fr fixed chargers.
      C. By making us mre aware f ur energy use.
      D. By increasing ur dependence n electrnics.
      11. What can be inferred frm the last paragraph?
      A. Slar pwer is mre useful in space than n Earth.
      B. Slar energy will sn take the place f fssil fuels.
      C. Space explratin has n impact n Earth’s energy.
      D. Small changes can lead t a renewable energy future.

Finland has integrated “Phenmenn-Based Learning” (PhBL) int its natinal curriculum (课程) ,a shift credited with enhancing its glbal educatinal standing. This innvative apprach prepares students fr future by mving beynd traditinal subject bundaries, prmting a mre cmprehensive understanding f the wrld.
In a PhBL classrm, learning is centered n explring cmplex, real-wrld phenmena such as “climate change” r “the Eurpean Unin”. Students d nt learn subjects like histry r science in islatin. Instead, they wrk cllabratively in teams, cnducting authentic research, analyzing infrmatin frm varius angles, and cmmunicating with field experts. This interactive prcess is designed t naturally cultivate essential 21st-century skills: critical thinking, creativity, cmmunicatin, and cllabratin.
Rted in cnstructivism, PhBL psits that students build knwledge actively. They start with a real-wrld challenge, then gather, interpret, and cmbine data befre prpsing viable slutins. This makes the learning experience hands-n and meaningful. The final utcme is ften a cmprehensive prject r a detailed prtfli that demnstrates their prblem-slving abilities and practical applicatin f knwledge.
Technlgy plays a crucial rle in this mdel. Finnish schls view educatinal technlgy as a pwerful tl fr inquiry, nt an end in itself. Students utilize (利用) digital resurces, including vides, nline databases. This shift twards diverse digital surces is reshaping learning materials, ptentially leading t the demise f traditinal textbks as students are n lnger limited t a single surce f infrmatin.
Ultimately, by encuraging students t actively investigate the wrld and tackle its prblems, PhBL makes learning deeply meaningful. It aims t create lifelng learners wh can adeptly use integrated knwledge and technlgy t address glbal issues. It is this visin f engaged, applicable educatin that makes PhBL s effective and has captured the attentin f educatrs wrldwide.
      12. What is a key feature f PhBL in Finland?
      A. It fcuses n the deep learning f a single subject.
      B. It requires students t learn withut teachers’ guidance.
      C. It mainly uses technlgy t deliver traditinal lectures.
      D. It breaks the subject bundaries t explre real-wrld tpics.
      13. Hw des the authr develp the idea f PhBL in Paragraph 2?
      A. By giving examples.B. By telling a stry.
      C. By presenting data.D. By quting pinins.
      14. What des the underlined wrd “demise” in Paragraph 4 mst prbably mean?
      A. End.B. Recvery.C. Survival.D. Ppularity.
      15. What is the authr’s attitude tward PhBL?
      A. Dubtful.B. Supprtive.C. Neutral.D. Critical.
