In the mid - latitudes (中纬度) between 21° and 43° nrth r suth, habitat destructin was the main factr, their findings suggest. "But in the trpics, heat extremes were the biggest factr. In these regins, birds are ften living near the limits f their tlerance and will die if the temperature is beynd the limits," says Ktz.
They als investigated the extent t which the intensificatin in heat extremes is due t human - caused glbal warming. This allwed them t estimate the decline in bird ppulatin that results frm climate change.
