Over the curse f a few weeks, the water turns light blue, blue, and in rare cases, even white. This phenmenn is well-dcumented but nt very well-understd. What scientists knw is that cntributing factrs include high water temperatures, algae blm and increased calcium cncentratins. Interestingly, whiting events are nt dangerus t the aquatic (水生的) life. Hwever, the same cannt be said fr land life, including humans.
“Pyramid Lake is currently experiencing a temprary pisnus algae blm” pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe said in a pst, adding that expsure t the blue water culd cause many diseases. Luckily, pyramid Lake has been clsed t the public.
Experts say that animals can suffer frm shck r even die if expsed t the pisnus algae in the water, and have urged peple appraching pyramid Lake during the whiting event nt t take their pets with them.
Satellite images shwed that the whiting event started in a small crner f the lake and gradually diffused, turning the water blue. It then cvered the entire surface f the water, and experts have n idea hw lng it will last.
Phts f the unusually clred water have been spreading n the Internet, with many cmparing pyramid Lake with trpical lcatins like the Maldives. But while the lake may be beautiful t lk at, it’s imprtant t remember that the turquise water is pisnus.

(原创题)Fr a lng time, it was believed that Alzheimer's disease was mainly caused by harmful prtein plaques(斑块) in the brain. Hwever, a new study suggests a hidden driver: fat buildup inside the brain's wn immune cells(免疫细胞). These special cells, which nrmally prtect the brain, becme verwhelmed and unable t d their jb when they accumulate t much fat. This finding pens a new path fr treating the disease by fcusing n the health f these immune cells.
Researchers discvered that when these immune cells get clse t the prtein plaques, they start prducing an excess f fat. Nrmally, these cells use sme fat fr energy. But in the brains f Alzheimer's patients, they cnvert t much f this fat int a stred frm. This prcess fills the cells with fat drplets, making them slw and inefficient. As a result, they lse their ability t clear away the very plaques that are harming the brain.
The scientific team traced this prcess and identified a key enzyme(酶) that is respnsible fr the final step f fat strage. In a diseased brain, this enzyme is nt brken dwn as quickly as it shuld be, s it builds up t abnrmal levels. This acts like a switch that is stuck in the "n" psitin, cnstantly telling the cell t stre fat instead f using it fr energy r repair. This accumulatin f the enzyme is a majr reasn fr the fat verlad.
T test a slutin, researchers used mlecules that culd help remve this enzyme in animal mdels. The results were highly prmising. By reducing the enzyme, the fat in the brain's immune cells was significantly decreased. This allwed the cells t regain their ability t clear harmful prtein plaques and led t imprved markers f verall brain health.
This discvery represents a majr shift in understanding Alzheimer's disease. It suggests that simply targeting the prtein plaques may nt be enugh. Instead, restring the functin f the brain's immune cells by cntrlling fat accumulatin culd be the key t fighting this devastating illness. This new apprach ffers hpe fr future treatments.
      28. Why d the brain's immune cells fail t wrk prperly?
      A. They are directly killed by prtein plaques.
      B. They stre t much fat instead f using it.
      C. They lack enugh energy t clear plaques.
      D. They prduce t many harmful enzymes.
      29. What is the main prblem with the fat-prducing enzyme mentined?
      A. It is prduced in excessive amunts.
      B. It is blcked by the prtein plaques.
      C. It fails t cnvert fat int energy.
      D. It is nt brken dwn as it shuld be.
      30. What can be inferred abut the new research n Alzheimer's?
      A. It challenges the traditinal view f the disease.
      B. It has already led t a cure fr Alzheimer's.
      C. It fcuses mainly n the genetic causes f the disease.
      D. It prves that fat is mre harmful than prtein plaques.
      31. What might be the future fcus f Alzheimer's treatment accrding t the text?
      A. Remving all prtein plaques frm the brain.
      B. Imprving the functin f the brain's immune cells.
      C. Preventing fat frm entering the brain frm utside.
      D. Develping new drugs t bst verall brain energy.

(原创题)Heavily prcessed fds are rapidly changing glbal diets and causing a serius health crisis. Experts wrldwide warn that these prducts, knwn as ultra-prcessed fds (UPFs), are replacing fresh meals and are linked t many lng-term illnesses. The situatin requires immediate actin, nt mre waiting fr research, as these prducts are already deeply rted in what peple eat every day.
UPFs are industrially made using cheap ingredients and varius additives. Studies cnsistently shw that diets high in UPFs lead t pr nutritin and increase the risk f many health prblems. These include being verweight, heart disease, diabetes, and even mental health issues. Natinal surveys shw a sharp rise in UPF cnsumptin in many cuntries ver the past few decades, with sme natins nw getting mre than half f their energy frm these prducts.
The rise f UPFs is nt driven by persnal chice but by large glbal fd cmpanies. These businesses make huge prfits by prducing UPFs cheaply and marketing them aggressively. T prtect their prfits, these cmpanies use their pwer t influence gvernment plicies, blck health regulatins, and shape public pinin. Their plitical influence is seen as the biggest barrier t imprving public health and prmting better diets.
Experts argue that slving this prblem requires strng gvernment actin, nt just individual effrt. Suggested plicies include clear warning labels n packaging, higher taxes n UPFs, and strict rules n marketing, especially t children. Other ideas include remving UPFs frm schls and hspitals and using tax mney t make fresh, healthy fds mre affrdable and available t everyne, particularly fr lw-incme families.
A united glbal respnse is urgently needed, similar t the effrts made against the tbacc industry. This invlves prtecting public health plicies frm cmpany interference and building pwerful calitins t supprt fair and sustainable fd systems. By wrking tgether, gvernments and cmmunities can create a future where healthy diets are accessible and affrdable fr all, priritizing peple's well-being ver cmpany prfits.
      32. What makes UPFs harmful accrding t the passage?
      A. They are mre expensive than fresh fds.
      B. They cntain cheap ingredients and additives.
      C. They are mainly sld in develping cuntries.
      D. They are difficult t prduce in large quantities.
      33. What can be inferred abut the main bstacle t dietary plicy refrm?
      A. Lack f scientific evidence n UPFs.
      B. Peple's preference fr cnvenient fds.
      C. The plitical influence f fd cmpanies.
      D. High cst f implementing new plicies.
      34. What is the purpse f taxing UPFs as suggested?
      A. T make them disappear frm the market.
      B. T reduce their cnsumptin and fund healthy fd.
      C. T punish the fd cmpanies fr their actins.
      D. T shw the gvernment's pwer ver crpratins.
      35. What is the authr's attitude twards slving the UPF prblem?
      A. Hpeless and wrried.
      B. Cautius and uncertain.
      C. Urgent and demanding actin.
      D. Critical f the public.
