Less than 2,000 light-years away frm Earth, a new black hle with a mass 33 times greater than that f ur sun was sptted recently. Thugh the black hle, named Gaia BH3, is the secnd-clsest knwn t ur hme planet, it gives ut little detectable radiatin and had therefre gne undetected. “It’s a cmplete surprise,” says Pasquale Panuzz, the study’s lead authr and an astrnmer at the Observatry de Paris.
Lcated in the cnstellatin (星座) Aquila the Eagle, Gaia BH3 was uncvered by chance in a mass f data and bservatins cllected by Eurpean Space Agency (ESA) astrnmers. As the team reviewed findings frm the agency’s Gaia missin, which is building a 3D map f ur galaxy (星系), smething unusual caught their attentin: a strange star sme 1,926 light-years away. The bject’s curius mtin indicated that a large black hle nearby had lcked it int an rbit.
T prve their finding, the team f astrnmers and grund peratrs used the Eurpean Suthern Observatry’s Very Large Telescpe, lcated in Chile, t cnfirm Gaia BH3’s mass. In findings published in the jurnal astrnmy & Astrphysics, they shared that the unusual star rbits the black hle every 11.6 years. And Gaia BH3 is a type f black hle caused by the cllapse f a star, knwn as a stellar (恒星的) black hle — and it’s the largest f this type discvered in ur galaxy.
The average size f stellar black hles in the Milky Way is abut ten times the mass f the sun, with the previus recrd-hlder, called Cygnus X-1, being 21 times the mass f the sun. Still, in terms f the vast quantity f black hles, the 33-slar-mass Gaia BH3 is relatively small. Fr instance, Sagittarius A*, the super massive black hle in the center f the Milky Way, has a mass fur millin times larger than that f the sun. Gaia BH3 is the secnd-clsest black hle t Earth, behind nly Gaia BH1, which is 1,500 light-years away and ten times the mass f the sun.
The discvery is significant, as it prvides astrnmers with clues t better understand hw the deaths f ancient stars gave rise t stellar black hles.
      32. What can be inferred abut Gaia BH3?
      A. It is familiar t Pasquale.B. It is t far t be detected.
      C. It is an inactive black hle.D. It is almst 2,000 years ld.
      33. What des paragraph 2 fcus n?

      C. The impact f Gaia BH3.D. The mtin f Gaia BH3.
      34. Which f the fllwing has the largest mass?
      A. Gaia BH1.B. Cygnus X-1.C. Gaia BH3.D. Sagittarius A*.
      35. What is the main purpse f the text?
      A. T explain the cmplexity f galaxies.
      B. T reprt an astrnmical phenmenn.
      C. T educate readers t have an inquiring mind.
      D. T instruct astrnmers hw t find a black hle.
