It was nly mnths later, as the cruel reality f lst livelihds sunk in, that the idea f starting a farm generated. By this pint, Mnrse had been meeting wmen frm nearby cmmunities. She made an appintment with a cmpany, which runs an "agri - center" fr farming entrepreneurs. "It was unimaginable. We asked fr land and we gt it n the same day," she says.
The early days were painful: The new farm was destryed by trpical rainstrms repeatedly. Eventually, the cmpany gave them higher land. Once the site f a sugar cane(甘蔗)plantatin, the ver - fertilized sil was badly in need f sme expertise. Fr this new phase f cperatin, the cmpany rganized a series f training fr the wmen. "That's when things gt serius. The farm became very structured," says Mnrse.
Latuche, frm the tiny village f Bambus Virieux, says farming gave her a new sense f autnmy. The incme frm farm has been vital after her husband lst the incme as a fisher. Bringing hme fd has made her "feel strnger". Rbinsn, wh lives near Mnrse in Cité la Chaux, says, "I've fund smething that keeps me ging, and every day we're getting fd t take hme."

In the past year r s, a character frm a designer ty series created by a Hng Kng - based artist seems t have taken ver the wrld. Sld in paque(不透明的)bxes t hide which versin is inside (the pssible ptins are shwn n the side f the bx), the cute but creepy(怪异的)tys sell ut in mere minutes bth nline and in stres. Unbxing vides have cllected millins f views n scial media.
Why wuld peple spend mney n a blind bx when it might nt even cntain the specific ty that they want? The answer lies in ur brain chemistry: Blind bxes hit the same simulatin as gambling(赌博). The appeal draws with a cmbinatin f randmness, surprise, and anticipatin. Variable rewards stimulate dpamine(多巴胺), making them mre cmpelling than predictable nes.
Yung adults—nt children—are the nes driving the blind bx ty trend. Althugh frwned upn as backward by sme peple, the current trend f yung adults leaning int kidulting makes sense in a way. During uncertain times, engaging with childlike jys ffers cmfrt and cntrl. Times are mst definitely uncertain fr them right nw. Blind bxes ffer a little hpe in an uncertain wrld.
Scial media has als spread the blind bx trend far and wide. Viewers f unbxing vides ften experience similar feelings f anticipatin and excitement as the persn ding the unbxing. And while the unbxer might experience disappintment, fr the viewer, the mment f revealing is satisfying. But while sme watchers are happy t experience it indirectly, thers develp feelings f envy and are driven t buy their wn blind bxes.
Much like these character tys themselves, which are bth cute and creepy, blind bxes can prvide a fun mment f escapism r a trendy fashin attachment. But, due t the gambling mechanics baked int blind bxes, they can als be addictive. It's all f these factrs cming tgether that have made blind bxes—and this character ty series specifically—such a cultural phenmenn.

      A. Their desire t unbx is weakening.
      B. Sme are pushed t make purchases.
      C. They are cached t identify their desired tys.
      D. Mst f them prvide cmfrt fr the unbxers.
      31. What des the authr's attitude tward blind bx tys?
      A. Envius. B. Dismissive. C. Curius. D. Objective.

Regular steel is an ally(合金)f 99% irn and between abut 0.2% and 1% carbn, while stainless steel(不锈钢)typically cntains between 62% and 75% irn, up t 1% carbn, and mre than 10.5% chrmium(铬). Stainless steel als usually cntains a few percent f nickel t make it bth tugher and easier t wrk with.
“The chrmium is key t stainless steel’s rust(锈)resistance,” said materials scientist Tim Cllins. Chrmium reacts with xygen in the envirnment—usually in the air, but als underwater—t create a “passive layer” f chrmium xide n the metal’s surface, which prevents the xygen frm reaching irn in the steel t create rust.
The passive layer n stainless steel, nly a few nanmeters thick and thus invisible, can self - heal if it is damaged; it is inactive, which means it desn't chemically react with ther substances; it desn't migrate frm the surface f the metal, resistant t fd acids and cleaning chemicals. All f thse make stainless steel suitable fr fd prductin, surgery and ther applicatins.
Mdern stainless steel was develped in 1913 by English metallurgist Harry Brearley, wh was studying steel allys t prevent wear f the gun. Brearley created an ally frm irn, carbn, chrmium and nickel. But it wasn't suitable, s he threw it in his backyard. A few weeks later, Brearley nticed the shiny ally in his yard hadn't rusted—s he develped the material and intrduced it t the wrld.
Stainless steel nw makes up abut 3% f the steel used wrldwide each year—almst 2 billin tns. But it is cmplex and expensive t make—typically between three and five times the prductin cst f regular steel—and the inclusin f special metallic elements in the allys can make it mre expensive still. As a result, mst applicatins that need steel use regular r carbn steel, either in cnditins where it desn't rust r where it is prtected by an uter layer f paint r sme ther cating.
      32. What is the main functin f chrmium in stainless steel?
      A. T imprve the flexibility f the steel.
      B. T frm a prtective layer against rust.
      C. T enhance the hardness and wrkability.
      D. T reduce the prductin cst f the steel.
      33. In which aspect f stainless steel des the authr describe its advantages?
      A. The thickness.B. The cmpnents.C. Safety fr humans.D. Rich micrelements.
      34. What d we say abut the discvery f stainless steel?
      A. It was casual.B. It was unsettling.C. It was predictable.D. It was painstaking.
      35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Cst and Uses: a Cmparative Study f Steel Types
      B. The Histry f Steel Making: frm Irn t Ally
      C. Harry Brearley: the Man Wh Revlutinized Steel
      D. Stainless Steel: the Mysteries Behind the Shine
