When 32-year-ld Chinese engineer Lin Ha tk the stage at the Internatinal Sustainable Engineering Awards (ISEA) in Berlin last year, his hands trembled slightly. Knwn as sustainable engineering’s “Nbel Prize”, the ISEA hnrs innvatins tackling glbal envirnmental challenges. Lin’s team frm the China Academy f Engineering had spent three years develping a lw-cst water purificatin system fr rural develping regins, making them ne f three finalists fr the tp prize.
Lin’s jurney started in 2021, when a vlunteer trip t a Kenyan village shcked him: villagers walked 5 km daily fr clean water, while lcal river water, plluted by agricultural waste, was undrinkable. He nted that existing engineering slutins were t cstly r cmplex fr pr cmmunities. Back in Beijing, he gathered a team f yung engineers and envirnmental scientists t create a system using lcally abundant materials like ccnut shells and sand, fcusing n balancing effectiveness with simplicity fr maintenance withut prfessinal training.
Mnths f lab and rural Chinese village tests brught setbacks—nce a mdel failed after rain when filter materials clgged. The team redesigned it with vlcanic rcks t prevent blckages, sticking t Lin’s belief: “Engineering isn’t just abut fancy technlgy. It’s abut slving real prblems fr real peple.” By 2023, their system purified 500 liters f water daily, remving 99% f harmful bacteria, and cst under $100—ne-tenth the price f similar cmmercial systems.Lin’s team wn the ISEA. In his speech, he said the award belnged t peple lacking clean water and engineers wh believed technlgy shuld serve humanity. Pst-award, ver 200 systems were installed in Kenya, Tanzania and Myanmar. Returning t the 2021 Kenyan village, Lin was greeted by children with clean water. He realized engineering’s true reward was changing lives, nt trphies.

We all lve ur parents and turn t them when we’re in need, but wuld yu like them t hear the cnversatins yu have with yur friends in the schl playgrund r lunch queue? 30.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. T Friend r Nt t Friend Parents
B. T Prevent Privacy frm Parents

D. Bridging the Tech Generatin Gap
31.What is mst likely t be talked abut next?
A. Hw t bridge the generatin gap.

Researchers frm the Technical University f Munich (TUM) and the University f Clgne (UC) in Germany have develped an AI-based learning system.
The idea is simple yet effective: a webcam (网络摄像头) tracks students’ eye mvements. Maike Schindler, a math prfessr frm the UC, and her team have designed hundreds f math tasks invlving basic math skills. Depending n the task, specific patterns appear, which are shwn digitally n a heat map, with red indicating areas where the children lk frequently and green shwing the areas where they lk nly briefly. Cnfident students quickly get t key prblem areas, while struggling nes ften lk aimlessly.
“Tracking eye mvements helps recgnize different learning strategies thrugh patterns and finally create detailed supprt reprts fr teachers,” says Maike Schindler. “The AI system srts the patterns. Based n the student’s level and prgress, the sftware selects learning vides and exercises designed specifically fr them.” says rbtics prfessr Achim Lilienthal frm the TUM.
T develp the new eye-tracking technlgy, Prfessr Lilienthal has taken advantages f his rbtics research experience. In that wrk, he used eye trackers with a small human-like rbt named Na. It enables better cmmunicatin with humans. Hwever, these advanced systems with high accuracy cst many thusands f eurs.
T find a better slutin fr schls, the researchers cleverly mix technical experience with math knwledge. Instead f using high-end eye-trackers, their AI-driven apprach uses regular webcams and makes up fr lw accuracy thrugh AI imprvements. “By fcusing n prblem areas, the AI adapts the eye-tracking with the webcam, achieving accuracy cmparable t high-end tls,” prfessr Lilienthal says.
Germany’s Wulfen Cmprehensive Schl is the first t intrduce the system. A math test there shwed that abut ne-third f the new students struggled with basic math. With the AI system, ne teacher can nw supprt five students at nce — a significant imprvement ver traditinal ne-n-ne teaching. “As educatin faces teacher shrtages and increasing pressure t deal with individual learning styles, ur system fr prmting basic math skills is simply excellent supprt fr schls,” says Schindler.
32.What is the functin f the heat map?
A. Presenting students’ fcus areas.
B. Measuring the difficulty f math tasks.
C. Tracking the eye mvements f students.
D. Cmparing students’ prblem-slving speeds.

A. The system’s advantages in recgnizing eye prblems.
B. The system’s rle in supprting persnalized learning.
C. The system’s challenges in tracking student behavir.
D. The system’s prgress in upgrading specific patterns.
34.Which best describes the AI-driven eye-tracking technlgy?
A. Helpful but slw.B. Simple and relaxing.
C. Creative but cstly.D. Affrdable and effective.
35.What des Wulfen Cmprehensive Schl get frm the system?
A. Reductin in teacher training.B. Adaptatin t learning needs.
