In the film, a grup f lw-level yaguais decide t start their jurney t the west and eventually save human villagers frm fierce yaguais. They are remembered by rdinary peple as great heres.
The film puts cntemprary themes nt nameless yaguais that the riginal wrk never develped, finally crafting a stry with mdern significance. On China’s scial media, mvie-gers are impressed by the animatin’s vivid descriptin f mdern-day wrk culture, the ink-and-wash-painting style and its fcus n the lwly characters rather than the big heres.
In recent years, many Chinese cultural creatins have wn great ppularity in China and beynd. Black Myth: Wukng is based n the same stry f the Mnkey King but adpts a darker narrative. The Amazn rainfrest is ften called the “lungs f the Earth” and credited with prducing 20 percent f the wrld’s xygen. But that’s a misleading claim.
“There are a number f reasns why yu keep the Amazn in place, but xygen just isn’t any ne f them,” remarks Earth systems scientist Michael Ce. T Ce, the claim desn’t make any sense because there isn’t enugh carbn dixide in the atmsphere fr trees t phtsynthesize (光合作用). Fr carbn dixide mlecules (分子)trees pull ut f the air, they push a cmparable number f xygen mlecules back ut. The atmsphere cntains less than half a percent f carbn dixide, and 21 percent f xygen. It’s impssible fr the Amazn t generate that much xygen.
Yadvinder Malhi, an ecsystem eclgist at Oxfrd University, estimates trpical frests are respnsible fr arund 34 percent f phtsynthesis ccurring n land. Based n its size, the Amazn wuld accunt fr abut half f that, which means the Amazn generates arund 17 percent f xygen prduced n land.
The xygen we breathe is the gift f planktn (浮游生物)in the cean that have ver billins f years steadily accumulated xygen that made the atmsphere breathable. This xygen culd nly accumulate because the planktn became trapped at the bttm f the cean befre they culd rt. Otherwise, their breaking-up by ther micrbes wuld have used up that xygen.
Hwever, the 20 percent claim has been making the runds fr decades. Malhi and Ce think it cmes frm the fact that the Amazn cntributes arund 20 percent f the xygen prduced by phtsynthesis n land — which may have mistakenly slipped int public knwledge as “20 percent f the xygen in the atmsphere.”
Obviusly, nne f this is t say that the Amazn isn’t imprtant. “It pulls tns f carbn dixide ut f the atmsphere, which cls the planet,” ntes climate scientist Carls Nbre, “The Amazn is als the mst bi-diverse ecsystem n land and ne f nature’s mst pwerful tls fr easing climate change, playing an imprtant rle in stabilizing rainfall cycles in Suth America.” Fr its imprtance t the wrld, the Amazn might as well be a pair f “lungs”.
12. What is a widespread misunderstanding f the Amazn?
A. It features rich bidiversity.B. It eases climate change effectively.
C. It prduces 20% f Earth’s xygen.D. It breathes in xygen like human lungs.
13. Why des Michael Ce dubt the claim?
A. Oxygen is mainly frm planktn.B. CO2 is t little fr phtsynthesis.
C. The Amazn is nt large enugh.D. The Amazn generates little xygen.
14. Why d cean planktn cntribute mst t the breathable atmsphere?
A. They absrb mre CO2.B. They spread acrss vast cean regins.
C. They phtsynthesize faster.D. They build up xygen ver lng perids.
15. What can we infer frm Carls Nbre’s wrds in the last paragraph?
A. He denies the claim n the Amazn.
B. He underestimates the Amazn’s functin.
C. He stresses the Amazn’s eclgical value.
D. He cnfirms the Amazn’s rle in carbn reductin.

Bell’s smile disappeared. He started the engine f his bat and raced tward the scene, where a by came int view, crying crazily fr help.
“My gdness!” thught Bell. “He’s drwning!” Bell’s mind raced. He leaned ver the bat’s edge, grabbed the by’s wrists, and pulled him with all his strength ut f the water and nt the deck (甲板).
As he lked at the uncnscius teenager lying n the deck f his bat, he thught, “The kid’s gne!” A wave f desperatin washed ver Bell — until his recent CPR training kicked in. Just six mnths earlier, he had taken a first-aid curse. His eyes fixed n the kid’s pale face, and he began pressing his chest, his mvements firm and rhythmic, just as he’d memrized. Within secnds, the kid’s lips parted, and he cughed ut a lt f water.
“He’s back!” thught Bell, watching his face regain its clr. The by was alive. Once they reached the shre, an ambulance — called by nlkers — was waiting. The by was rushed t the hspital immediately.
