It was a warm summer evening at an pen-air theatre in Middleburg, Virginia. The sky was painted in deep range by the setting sun and I culd feel the crwd’s excitement in the air. Then the first musical nte rang ut. At that mment, everything changed. It wasn’t just music anymre—it was smething bigger. Yu culd feel it in the way the crwd mved like ne huge wave. Arund me, a 14-year-ld girl and strangers danced freely and laughed tgether. I’ve never had a feeling f cnnectin between me and strangers. An lder man, prbably in his fifties, danced as hard as the cllege students arund him. That mment stayed with me. Like rivers flwing int the sea, we are ne. It seemed that a new wrld lay in frnt f me.
Anther unfrgettable experience happened when I was 18. I gt a summer jb at a restaurant. At first, I kept messing up custmers’ rders and culdn’t remember table numbers.
N matter hw hard-wrking I was, I was a wrng persn in the manager’s eyes. That made me quite sad.
But smething changed ver time. My wrkmate Maria taught me tricks t remember difficult rders and Jey shwed me hw t deal with implite custmers. Even nrmal custmers started talking t me, asking abut my cllege plans and ffering me advice. Every mistake became a lessn, and gradually, I imprved.
Then, smething surprising happened. My manager was fired and I was made the manager. I culdn’t believe it! Mnths earlier, I culd hardly carry three plates withut drpping ne. Nw I was trusted with a leadership rle.
These tw experiences have changed hw I see the wrld. That night has taught me that cnnectin can happen anywhere. Althugh we are different, we all truly want the same things: jy and belnging. My summer at that restaurant has taught me that real grwth happens thrugh challenges, and that staying hpeful can turn hard situatins int chances.
