In 1901, he published the bk "Our Natinal Parks" and caught the attentin f President Thedre Rsevelt, wh visited him at Ysemite. During that visit, they laid the fundatin f Rsevelt's grundbreaking prtectin prgrams.

An ice bath r cld plunge (浸泡) typically invlves putting yurself int very cld water. Ancient Egyptians and Hippcrates all praised the benefits f cld water in helping keep healthy. "This has been arund fr a really lng time," says Dr. Gergine Nans, a family physician.
But research shws that the effectiveness f ice baths depends n their intended purpse. Especially fr starters, mderatin is key, " Nans says. "Getting clder is pssible, but yu need t be extra careful. Cld plunges aren't fr everyne, especially thse with sme pssible diseases."
Frm a scientific standpint, cld water expsure brings abut a series f changes in the bdy. It can help yu stay mre awake. What's mre, cld water makes yur bdy create heat. This temprarily raises yur metablism (新陈代谢), which sme believe culd help lse weight. That's the scientific idea, but the evidence fr that shuld be explred mre, " Nans explains.
S, hw d thse physilgical changes actually help us? Healthcare prviders and experts have mstly depended n small clinical studies r bservatinal data t supprt the ptential health benefits f cld - water plunge. But nw, experts are ding mre well - runded reviews f all the research t learn mre abut this ppular practice. Even s, everyne agrees we need mre studies t understand its effects fully.

Hwever, there were imprvements in sleep quality and verall quality f life, althugh n significant changes in md were bserved. A 2023 review fund that an ice - plunge can help reduce muscle sreness and tiredness immediately after exercise. And they als fund that time in freezing water culd reduce s - called explsive perfrmance — such as the ability t jump high — immediately after getting ut f cld water.
S, the bttm line: If yu enjy an ice bath and experience benefits, g fr it. "And if it makes yu feel awful, stp," Ethan Smith, anther physician, advises. "Hwever, if the cld water calls t yu, dive in."

CO₂ cncentratins in the atmsphere keep rising, and the wrld's ceans are flded with plastics, which put marine (海洋的) envirnments and ecsystems at risk. The key glbal prblems are ften intercnnected, and typically, the slutin t ne prblem brings abut anther prblem while the clck keeps ticking. But what if we culd slve several prblems at the same time?
It's almst t gd t be true, but a new cutting - edge inventin prmises t d just that. Researchers at the University f Cpenhagen have develped a methd, where ne man's trash really des becme anther man's "treasure", when PET plastic that is brken dwn becmes the main ingredient in efficient CO₂ capture (捕获).
"The beauty f this methd is that we slve a prblem withut creating a new ne. By turning waste int a raw material that can actively reduce greenhuse gases, we make an envirnmental issue part f the slutin t the climate crisis," says Margarita Pderte frm the Department f Chemistry at the University f Cpenhagen.
The slutin is a ptential win - win n a glbal scale, where plastic waste nt nly des nt end up in nature but als becmes an active player in climate imprvement. With the new chemical technlgy, researchers can transfrm PET plastic waste that is thught little f by recyclers int a primary resurce in a new frm f CO₂ srbent (吸附剂) they have develped. The prcess "upcycles" it t a new material the researchers have named BAETA, which can absrb CO₂ ut f the atmsphere s efficiently that it is easily cmpared with existing carbn capture technlgies.
The BAETA material features a pwder - like structure and a chemically "upgraded" surface, which enables it t very effectively cmbine and chemically capture CO₂. Once it reaches the maximum limit, CO₂ can be released (释放) thrugh a heating prcess, allwing the CO₂ t be cncentrated, cllected and stred r changed int a green resurce. Cmpared with existing technlgies, this prcess is relatively mild and highly suitable fr industrial - scale applicatins.
      32. What can we knw abut the glbal envirnmental prblems?
      A. Their slutins ften end in failure.
      B. Ocean pllutin is the tughest ne t deal with.
      C. They are rted in increasing CO₂ cncentratins.
      D. They may create new challenges when ne is slved.
      33. What des the authr think f the new methd?
      A. It is based n existing technlgies.B. It badly needs further imprvement.
      C. It sunds unrealistic but wrks well.D. It is nly fr industrial applicatins.
      34. What des the text imply abut BAETA?
      A. It can transfrm plastic waste int valuable materials.
      B. It is mre efficient than existing CO₂ capture technlgies.
      C. It allws the captured CO₂ t be released fr certain purpses.
      D. It invlves a prcess t difficult fr industrial - scale applicatins.
      35. What is the best title fr the text?
      A. Mre Effrts t Reduce Plastic Waste
      B. Inventing New Materials fr Daily Use
      C. The Harm f CO₂ t Marine Ecsystems
      D. Turning Plastic Waste int Climate Savers

This mindset lwered my frustratin and let me meet peple with mre empathy.
40 While I still experience mments f discnnectin r discmfrt, I nw have the tls t handle them. The key is realizing that culture shck is nrmal and temprary, and that by taking practive steps, yu can minimize its impact.

      B. Dn't blame thers fr their mistakes.
      C. I learned t take each interactin by itself.
      D. These strategies helped me t navigate culture shck mre effectively.
      E. Perhaps the hardest part was the sense that peple treated me differently.
      F. It represents a real and ften challenging phase f cultural adjustment when mving abrad.
      G. Shifting my fcus in this way helped me t see the cmmn humanity in peple and experiences.
