San Francisc’s Chinatwn is a beautiful, turist-friendly neighbrhd. I’d visited Chinatwn a few times while grwing up in Nrthern Califrnia, but never as an adult wh culd fully dive int this unique neighbrhd until recently. S I decided t g t San Francisc, curius t explre Chinatwn’s amazing shps and designs frm a new perspective.
My afternn in Chinatwn began at Clay Street. I was traveling with my husband, Ryan, wh had never been a turist in San Francisc befre, s it made sense t see where ur adventure wuld take us! We tk the dwnhill path n Clay Street and within a few steps, saw Hang Ah Street.
Mre f a walkable alley (小巷) than a street, Hang Ah was fairly empty except fr a few back drs. We were visiting tward the tail end f the Mid-Autumn Festival, s the alleyway shwed us ur first view f thse special traditinal Chinese lanterns that Chinatwn has becme synnymus with (密不可分的). Hanging frm the rftps, they were a lvely intrductin t ur adventure.
We cntinued dwn Clay Street, nt sure where r when t turn left r right, until Waverly Place. We thught Hang Ah was beautiful, but Waverly Place cmpletely stpped us in ur tracks. I still remember the lk n Ryan’s face; he was cmpletely taken aback, with widened eyes and a camera in hand capturing every mment.
Walking dwn Waverly, we then heard the sund f wden instruments cming frm what appeared t be a music schl. Even thugh I’d been t Chinatwn befre, there was smething wnderful abut this day, this street, this music and f curse, the persn I was traveling with wh made it even mre special.
