S I was the Dughnut Lady. I nt nly received a title, but became a landmark. Nw I think abut all the peple wh keep an eye n my wn children. They becme, well, Dughnut Ladies. Like the men at the skating rink, wh let my bys ring hme; Or the bus driver wh drve my daughter t her stp at the end f the rute at night but wuldn't leave until I arrived t pick her up; Or that nice plice fficer wh tk pity n my bys walking hme in the rain when I was at wrk—even thugh the phne rang all the next day with calls frm curius neighbrs. "Was that a plice car I saw at yur huse last night?"
That wasn't a plice car. That was a Dughnut Lady.

S I changed my mind and chse Business Management as my majr. I frced myself t believe that I wuld enjy it and succeed in the future, but eventually I exhausted myself understanding the ecnmy and trying new marketing techniques. Cming ut f this experience, I realize it is k t be different frm thers and t study things like classics, art histry and ther majrs ffered in the Cllege f Humanities(人文学科)!
The wrries mst peple have abut a Humanities degree and finding a career afterwards are that the majrs are t abstract, and ne will nt btain any applicable skills. Hw culd ne effectively be an unbiased(无偏见)writer with nly a knwledge f the ppular pinin f sciety? Hw culd ne speak persuasively with clsed minds? D thse sft skills sund useless and inapplicable t yu? Think f it. Hw ften d yu cmmunicate with thers? Prduce ideas? Encunter peple frm ther cultures? Every day. Every SECOND f every day. S why nt master these skills?
If yu chse a majr in the Cllege f Humanities, yu will be needed. The jb market is quietly creating thusands f penings a week fr peple wh can bring a humanist's grace t ur rapidly evlving high - tech future. Yur skills will be valuable t any wrkplace yu hpe t be in. Chase after yur dream majr with all yur energy, n matter what ther peple think.

It's human nature t enjy playing. Frm bard games t sprts, games have been a significant part f human culture fr a very lng time. Since their inventin in the mid - 20th century, vide games have becme ne f the mst ppular ways t have fun. In 2018, UK games spent an average f ver seven hurs a week playing, accrding t research by glbal netwrk prvider Limelight. But hw much is t much? When des fun turn int an addictin? Are we addicted t vide games?
"The strng desire t play never disappears," said Sean—nt his real name—n the BBC's Victria Derbyshire prgramme. His deep interest in gaming nce led him t play fr 48 hurs straight. It cnsumed him t the pint where he neglected his family and children, spending all his time n gaming and ignring their needs, which ultimately led t lsing them, his jb, and his hme. Since then, he has entered a rehabilitatin center, and althugh he slipped back int gaming nce r twice, he has been ding well fr the last 14 mnths.
Sean is nt alne. The UK Addictin Treatment grup reprted that the number f peple seeking treatment fr gaming addictin grew frm fur in 2014 t 22 in 2018. In 2018, the Wrld Health Organizatin classified gaming addictin as an illness. In the UK, an investigatin int technlgy addictin by the Digital, Culture, Media and Sprt Select Cmmittee included statements frm peple wh said they were addicted t games. One, Matus Mikus, said, "games are naturally addictive."
Hwever, the assciatin fr UK Interactive Entertainment tld the cmmittee that there was nt enugh evidence t supprt the claim f addictin. They argued that gaming culd be beneficial, fr example, by develping thinking skills. In fact, in a 2018 BBC article, Dr. Rajin Chwdhury, wh wrks in anaesthetic and intensive care at Sheffield Teaching Hspital, shared a similar view. Gaming, he said, made him mre skillful with his hands, imprved his ability t use his hands and eyes tgether effectively, and helped with peratins perfrmed remtely by lking at a screen, especially when the cntrls were cmplex.
Are vide games addictive? The answer is unclear. As with many things, balance is imprtant. The games themselves may nt be the prblem, but letting them negatively impact ur lives certainly is. With that in mind, play well, have fun, and remember t take regular breaks.
      66. What is the purpse f the first paragraph? ______
      A. T criticize the impact f vide games n sciety.
      B. T intrduce the tpic f vide games and their ppularity.

Just ver a year ag, my iPhne was lst. My first thught was t replace it. But I stpped myself and asked a questin: Des wning a smartphne make my life better, r wrse? I

Life is full f challenges and setbacks. One f the mst unfrgettable setbacks I experienced was when I failed an imprtant exam. I was s disappinted that I even thught abut giving up. But then I realized that setbacks are just tests fr us. They are pprtunities fr us t learn and grw.
S I decided t face the prblem bravely. I analyzed my mistakes carefully and made a study plan. I wrked harder than ever befre and asked my teachers and classmates fr help. With their supprt and my wn effrts, I finally made great prgress in the next exam.
This experience taught me that setbacks are nt the end but the beginning f a new jurney. They test ur curage, determinatin, and perseverance. Only by facing them bravely and learning frm them can we becme strnger and better. S let's embrace every setback as a test fr us and turn it int a stepping stne t success.
