At the age f 16, I decided t find a jb. With n prir wrk experience I was lucky enugh t be ffered an interview at a lcal fast-fd restaurant.
The interview went well and the manager seemed ready t hand me a cntract. But, befre I left, he asked me t try ut serving a custmer. Hwever, I culdn’t make ut a single wrd n the rdering screen. The custmer std impatiently as I frze. With n surprise, I received a rejectin email the next mrning. Fr the first time, I realised that I was disabled.
I knew I had been brn partially sighted. As a child, I remember struggling t see the whitebard in class, even when I was sitting right at the frnt and I masked this by cpying ntes frm my friends, face bent clse t the paper. Even tday, maths remains hard fr me since I learned mst f it secnd-hand.
But when I gt back frm the interview, I made the first step twards living with a disability: acceptance. Fr the first time, I lked at the fficial diagnsis (诊断) I had received at 12 years ld: retinal dystrphy (视网膜营养不良) and treatment r glasses culdn’t imprve my visin. Seeing this cld term n that thin paper made everything real. Strangely, I was relieved.
The next step was unlearning my ver-independence. I hated asking fr help — s much s that I preferred t take the wrng bus than ask strangers t read ut the rute number fr me. But as I started asking them fr help, reading menus at cafes r finding my way arund cnfusing tube statins, I culdn’t believe the lve and supprt that swept ver me.
Tday, I feel very far frm the anxius 16-year-ld I was at that interview. I knw that I cannt change my visin, but I treat every new barrier as a challenge. Speaking up when smething is inaccessible has taught me that adjustments can usually be made t accmmdate my needs, and I am n lnger shy t ask fr them. These days, I make sure I never g hungry in restaurants.

Fr years, many scientists have warned that Earth is underging anther mass extinctin, with species disappearing much faster. These warnings ften rely n versimplified r utdated assumptins, treating past extinctin patterns as if they apply equally t mdern times. Hwever, new research frm Kristen Saban and Jhn Wiens suggests a different picture.
Published in 2025, the paper shws that ver the past five centuries, extinctins amng plants, arthrpds (节肢动物), and land vertebrates (脊椎动物) actually reached their highest pint abut a century ag and have been declining since. The study als fund that the causes f thse recent extinctins were very different frm the threats species are currently facing. This makes it prblematic t extraplate these past extinctin patterns int the future, because the factrs leading t extinctin are far frm unifrm acrss time, habitats, r bilgical grups.
Having reviewed data frm nearly 2 millin species and clsely studied 912 species knwn t have gne extinct in the last 500 years, the team discvered that extinctin rates varied widely amng different species grups. Mllusks, such as snails and clams, alng with vertebrates, were the mst affected, while plants and arthrpds faced relatively few lsses. Many f the recrded extinctins ccurred n remte and self-cntained islands, including the Hawaiian Islands, where nn-native species intrduced by humans — such as rats, pigs, and gats — wiped ut native wildlife. On cntinental regins, hwever, mst extinctins tk place in freshwater envirnments. While freign species caused the majrity f island lsses, habitat destructin has becme the dminant threat n land.
Interestingly, the study fund n evidence that climate change has increased extinctins during the past tw centuries. Wiens clarified, “That des nt mean that climate change is nt a threat; it just means that past extinctins d nt reflect current and future threats.”
The study shuldn’t be taken as giving peple a free pass t suggest that human activity des nt present a significant and urgent threat t many species. It was brn ut f a mtivatin t take a step back frm end-f-the-wrld scene. “If we’re saying that what is happening right nw is like an asterid (小行星) hitting Earth, then the prblem becmes unslvable,” she said. “By lking at the data in this way, we hpe that ur study helps infrm ur verall understanding f bidiversity lss and hw we can cme up with better ways t address it.”
9.What can be learned abut extinctins?
      A. Anther mass extinctin is bund t happen.
      B. Climate changes bring increasing threat t creatures.
      C. Habitat destructin makes sme species extinct n islands.
      D. The extinctin f sme species is nw n a dwnward trend.
10.What des the wrd “extraplate” underlined in Paragraph 2 mst prbably mean?
      A. Unfld.B. Prject.C. Divide.D. Mix.
11.What des the authr mainly d in this passage?
      A. Prpse a slutin.B. Make a cmparisn.
      C. Challenge a viewpint.D. Explain an apprach.
      D
Thrughut histry, art, music, and language have been cnsidered the purest frms f human expressin, representing ur deepest emtins and enriching ur cultures. But what if ur technlgical prgress destrys this part f ur very essence?
It is natural fr many t feel cautius f change, especially change that is surrunded by s much hype (炒作). But as Deirdre Lughridge, an assciate prfessr f music at Nrtheastern University, says, new technlgy will push artists “t fundamentally rethink hw they d their wrk, spend their time and structure their creative prcess”.
This idea further extends t music, a field where technlgies have becme the nrm when prducing new sngs. Tday, many are nt familiar with the rle f AI when creating music; fr example, Aut-Tune, a nce-cntrversial prcessr, is nw a tl accepted by music prducers, musicians, and listeners alike. Furthermre, sund technlgy nw defines hw music is experienced, with audi engineers influencing the perceptin f perfrmances as much as the musicians themselves. Many times, cautin surrunding the use f new technlgies arises frm a lack f understanding, s establishing the psitive ptential f these technlgies is critical fr favrable perceptins.
It is als imprtant t nte that current AI-driven art is still light-years away frm the unrealistic wrld that many peple imagine. As shwn by a study, when participants were asked t differentiate between AI-created and human-created artwrks, the latter (后者) was cnsistently rated higher fr its cmpsitin, degree f expressin, and aesthetic (审美) value. This becmes even mre apparent in music.
Where this technlgy will shine is in its ability t increase the accessibility f the art wrld t the general public. Many wh initially felt discuraged by the art wrld can start experimenting with their wn ideas withut the need fr expensive tls and materials thanks t sme systems, which fueled a trend that encuraged many t create unique and humrus instructins t generate the strangest images pssible. These mdels will allw individuals t explre their develping ideas and visualize the utcme f their artistic visin. Sn, individuals will transitin twards creating their wn art withut the aid f these prgrams.
Of curse, this technlgy can be misused, bth by greedy cmpanies and thse wh claim the prducts f these mdels as their wn artwrk. Hwever, if these mdels cntinue t grw and are used respnsibly, bth by artists and cnsumers, the sky is the limit fr what new frms f art can be discvered and develped.
12.The authr uses the questin underlined in Paragraph 1 t ______.
      A. intrduce the tpicB. predict the ending
      C. illustrate an argumentD. highlight an pinin
13.As fr Deirdre Lughridge’s view, the authr is ______.
      A. dubtfulB. supprtiveC. uncncernedD. excited
14.What can we infer abut AI art frm this passage?
      A. AI art stands ut in the field f music.
      B. Defining the artistic value f AI art is hard.
      C. Telling AI art apart frm human art is challenging.
      D. AI art technlgy bradens access t artistic creatin.
15.Which wuld be the best title fr this passage?
      A. A Duble-Edged Swrd: Where AI Art Is Heading?
      B. Beynd Human Expressin: Our Artistic Essence r nt?
      C. Technlgy as a Tl: Hw AI Makes Creatin Accessible?
      D. AI Art: The End f Creativity r the Start f Smething New?
      三、阅读七选五:本大题共5小题,共10分。
D yu ften wrry abut what thers think f yu? Maybe yu stress ver yur clthes, fear saying smething silly at a party, r feel trubled by friends’ judgments after a mistake. If yes, yu’re nt alne.
Many peple struggle with the fear f being judged by thers. Early humans relied n grups fr survival—fitting in grups t share resurces like fd and tls, bsting their chances f living. 16
Being part f scial grups (family, friends, teams) brings a sense f belnging, s wanting t be liked is nrmal. 17 These incidents can remain in ur minds, making us relive the embarrassment and verthink thers’ reactins.
18 Psych-educatr Mylène Fisy explains that feeling stressed abut thers’ judgments — especially when ur eg (自我价值感) is threatened — is human at any age. But there are times when anxiety is increased. Research frm Harvard University shws teenagers feel mre nervus r embarrassed when they think thers are watching, cmpared t yunger kids and lder adults.
Frtunately, there are ways t cpe with this anxiety. One trick is t be kind t thers. 19 And it allws yu t wrry less abut what peple think f yu as yu knw they primarily regard yu as a kind persn.
Dn’t frget that it’s imprtant t be kind t yurself as well. 20 In reality, hwever, thers will link psitive characters with yu that yu’ve never even thught f befre. It’s imprtant t cnsider that n ne is perfect and that everyne makes mistakes. By knwing yur wn strengths and limits, yu may feel less threatened by what thers think abut yu. After all, the nly pinins abut yu that truly matter are yur wn.
A.It encurages thers t be less critical f friends.
B.Why d yung peple care mre abut thers’ pinins?
C.Embarrassing mments can make us feel ashamed fr a lng time.
D.When yu dn’t feel anxius anymre, yu can gain mre cnfidence.
E.When yu’re feeling weak, it’s easy t assume that peple think the wrst f yu.
F.This ability t scialize and value grup acceptance has been imprtant since then.
G.Yet, we all face awkward mments like calling ut the wrng answer, r being late.

When having meals with friends wh like high-fat fds r eat t much, yu are likely t take in mre calries withut nticing it — yu may have planned t eat just ne bwl f rice but end up having an extra half because f their effect. On the ther hand, if yur friends keep t healthy eating, ften picking vegetables, whle grains and prper amunts f prtein (蛋白质), yu will naturally be mre willing t fllw their gd eating habits.
The main rules behind this situatin are scial spread and grup standards. Scial spread means the passing f behavirs amng peple thrugh scial cmmunicatin, and since eating is a cmmn part f scial ccasins, eating habits are easily passed n. Grup standards, hwever, push yu t match the behaviurs f thse arund yu t fit in and avid feeling left ut. Yur brain takes yur friends’ eating habits as the “reasnable level” and changes yur wn actins in this way — an influence that is ften nt easy t find but very strng.
The influence f friends’ eating habits n persnal weight is real and deep. T avid being led in the wrng directin by unhealthy eating habits, the key is t actively realise the scial influences arund yu. Of curse, there is n need t distance yur friends n purpse; instead, by making yur needs clear and gently guiding the way yu cmmunicate and keeping t yur wn eating style during meetings, yu can prtect yur weight and health while develping yur friendships.
