I ften wake up t my alarm after a shrt night and step ut f bed t a day I’ve fught thrugh many times. When I get t schl, I start with Spanish, my hardest class. Despite being arund all year, I have n idea what’s cming n. I then walk t my English class, in which I was stuck in the language rules. The assignments take much energy that my perfectinist nature is unable t take n in schl s I save them fr later, mst prbably late at night.
This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disrder in reading and spelling; assignments that take three times as lng as they’re meant t, late nights and early mrnings t even slightly keep up with my classes.
I was tld that Advanced Placement U.S. Histry wuld be my hardest class. But here, I am in my element. Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged. Yes, my passin fr histry heightens my fcus, but my teacher’s willingness t wrk with me is what allws me t fly high.
Teachers need t ffer alternative structures that make learning mre accessible. I’ve had teachers wh teach lecture-based classes where students are expected t take ntes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this desn’t wrk. A fix fr that is as simple as prviding alternative resurces: a slide-shw students can g back t after class — r perhaps even an activity that further plays with the cncepts.
Nw many schls are shifting t appraches that meet the needs f all kids. Hwever, supprtive wrk can still be dne t supprt students with dyslexia. If schl systems are willing t prvide supprt and educatin by creating an accessible class structure frm the start, students wn’t be stuck int academic tracks that dn’t push them t their full ptential (潜力).

The instruments that dctrs use t mnitr health are ften expensive, as is the training required t perate them. That cmbined cst is t high fr the medical system t scan regularly fr early signs f illness.
A research prject called AlzEye, run frm Mrfields Eye Hspital in Lndn, may change this. It is attempting t use the eye as a windw thrugh which t detect signals abut the health f ther rgans. The dctrs in charge f it, Siegfried Wagner and Pearse Keane, are linking Mrfields’ database f eye scans, which ffer a detailed picture f the health f the retina (视网膜), with infrmatin abut ther aspects f its patients’ health cllected frm ther hspitals arund England.
The dataset includes every ne f the 300,000 patients wh visited Mrfields between 2014 and 2024 and were ver the age f 40. The idea is t examine changes t peple’s eyes within that ten-year perid, and link these with, say, the appearance f Alzheimer’s disease in the same patient.

They will seek such patterns with the help f algrithms (程序) that can spt far tinier variatins. They may, it shuld be remembered, never find such patterns. Althugh there is evidence that the back f the eye des change as its wner develps Alzheimer’s, it may be that the changes are t small t be detected reliably enugh fr diagnsis. If such patterns culd be recgnized reliably, thugh, the ptential impact wuld be huge. Even in rich cuntries, between 50% and 80% f Alzheimer’s cases g undiagnsed. Mrever, even if the technique des nt wrk fr Alzheimer’s, it might wrk fr smething else. Dr. Wagner and Dr. Keane therefre plan further searches fr patterns related t strkes and heart disease.
If it des wrk, the technique the tw researchers are prpsing will be cheap t carry ut. Als, the equipment and algrithms t perfrm an eye scan are available t anyne, thrugh clud-cmputing services like Ggle and Amazn.

      B. It can’t find early signs f illness effectively.
      C. Dctrs are interested in new medical fields.
      D. Hspitals can’t affrd the equipment and training.
      33. Drs Wagner and Keane use eye scans t _________.
      A. decide whether the patients’ retinas are healthy
      B. cmpare Mrfields’ database with ther hspitals’
      C. explre the use f algrithms in detecting Alzheimer’s
      D. find the cnnectins between eye changes and appearances
      34. What d we learn abut the AlzEye prject?
      A. It examines the lifelng changes t 300,000 patients’ eyes.
