When Jane Gdall first set ft in Gmbe Stream Natinal Park in Tanzania in 1960, few scientists believed a yung wman with n frmal academic training culd unlck the secrets f chimpanzee behavir. Tday, at 89, she stands as ne f the wrld's mst celebrated primatlgists(灵长类动物学家), whse wrk has revlutinized ur understanding f animal intelligence and reshaped glbal cnservatin effrts.
Gdall's early days in Gmbe were marked by patience and persistence. Fr mnths, the shy chimpanzees fled at the sight f her, leaving her with little mre than fleeting glimpses f their daily lives. Undiscuraged, she wuld sit quietly in the frest each day, bserving frm a distance. Her breakthrugh
came in 1961, when she witnessed a chimpanzee using a twig t fish fr termites (白蚁) — a behavir previusly thught t be unique t humans. This discvery challenged the lng - held belief that nly humans culd make and use tls, frcing scientists t rethink the definitin f humanity.
Over the next 60 years, Gdall's research uncvered mre surprises. She dcumented cmplex scial structures amng chimpanzees: they frm lifelng friendships, grieve ver the lss f family members, and even engage in acts f kindness. She als bserved darker sides f their behavir, such as territrial wars, which prvided a mre cmplete picture f their lives.
In the 1980s, Gdall turned her attentin t a new crisis: the rapid decline f chimpanzee ppulatins due t defrestatin and paching. T address this, she funded the Jane Gdall Institute (JGI) in 1977, which wrks t prtect chimpanzee habitats and supprt lcal cmmunities. One f JGI's mst successful prgrams is "Rts & Shts," launched in 1991, which empwers yung peple wrldwide t take actin n envirnmental and scial issues.
Despite her age, Gdall shws n sign f slwing dwn. She travels ver 300 days a year, giving lectures and advcating fr wildlife cnservatin. "Every individual matters," she ften says. "Every individual has a rle t play. Every individual can make a difference." Her life's wrk is a testament t the pwer f curisity, cmpassin and unwavering dedicatin.
      24. What challenged the scientists' lng - held belief abut humanity in 1961?
      A. Gdall's arrival in Gmbe Stream Natinal Park.
      B. The discvery that chimpanzees use twigs t fish fr termites.

Nt lng ag, yu had t physically hand ver cash t buy smething. Yu witnessed it exit yur wallet. Yu sensed it. But with payment services Klarna r Clearpay, yu can nw pay fr a new phne in three installments (分期付款) and barely ntice the difference. This isn't just a shpping habit; it's a reflectin f hw we relate t mney tday. We are becming increasingly free f the emtinal burden f spending. Additinally, ur mental health is being prfundly affected by this quiet shift.
The ppularity f Buy Nw, Pay Later (BNPL) plans has skyrcketed. They prmise freedm and flexibility, but the ease f use can trick ur minds. When payment is divided int smaller payments, we are wired t feel less emtinally drained. Althugh the £15 payments seem insignificant, they quickly add up. Psychlgists fund that when the act f paying is separated frm the act f purchasing, we experience less "pain f paying", which makes us mre likely t verspend. In scieties where digital credit is easily accessible but financial educatin is limited, this behavir can fall int lasting debt. Stress ver mney desn't stay in the bank. It fllws us int ur hmes, ur relatinships, and even ur sleep. Research frm
multiple cuntries has shwn that persnal debt is strngly assciated with a range f mental struggles, including symptms f depressin, persistent anxiety and even feelings f hpelessness.
That's why we need t talk abut mney mre ften—nt just hw t make it, but hw we feel abut it—in families, schls, wrkplaces, and therapy rms. Therapists shuld be able t ask abut financial stress with cnfidence. Financial educatin ught t be treated as essential in schls. Additinally, we shuld nrmalize debt - related cnversatins t relieve peple's feelings f islatin and shame. Financial stress can make yu feel helpless. But by addressing the emtinal side f mney and building healthier habits, we can mve frm crisis t cnfidence.
We live in a wrld where mney is invisible. But the emtinal burden it takes is very real. If we start nticing that cst, we might finally treat mney nt nly as a resurce, but as smething deeply psychlgical.
      28. What phenmenn des the authr pint ut in paragraph 1?
      A. Klarna and Clearpay help peple save mney.
      B. Digital payments are nw relatively preferred.
      C. Invisible payments have imprved mental health.
      D. Installments ease the emtinal spending burden.
      29. What may BNPL result in?
      A. Easy access t digital credit.B. Imprved financial knwledge.
      C. Overspending and lng - term debt.D. Decrease f small - amunt expenses.
      30. Hw can we build healthier financial habits?
      A. Value financial educatin.B. Hide feelings f shame.
      C. Mask peple's financial stress.D. Highlight debt - related prblems.
      31. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Cash Shpping: The Healthy Way f Cnsumptin
      B. Mney's Emtinal Cst: Beynd Invisible Payments
      C. BNPL: A New Apprach t Bst Cnsumer Spending
      D. Financial Educatin: The Cre t Cutting Expenses
      D
Fr decades, scientists have identified chrnic lw - level inflammatin (炎症) — called "inflammaging" — as ne f the primary drivers f age - related diseases. Think f it as yur bdy's immune system stuck in verdrive — cnstantly fighting battles that dn't exist, gradually wearing dwn rgans and systems. But a new study challenges that idea and culd reshape hw we think abut aging itself.
The research, published in Nature Aging, cmpared patterns f inflammatin in fur very different cmmunities arund the wrld. Tw grups were frm mdern, industrialised scieties — lder adults living in Italy and Singapre. The ther tw were pristine cmmunities wh live mre traditinal lifestyles: the Tsimane peple f the Blivian Amazn and the Orang Asli in the frests f Malaysia.
The researchers analysed bld samples frm mre than 2,800 peple, lking at a wide range f inflammatry mlecules (分子), knwn as cytkines. Amng the Italian and Singaprean participants, the researchers fund a fairly cnsistent inflammaging pattern. As peple aged, levels f inflammatry markers in the bld rse tgether. Higher levels were linked t a greater risk f chrnic diseases including kidney disease and heart disease. But in the Tsimane and Orang Asli ppulatins, the inflammaging pattern was absent. The same inflammatry mlecules did nt rise cnsistently with age, and they were nt strngly linked t age - related diseases. In fact, amng the Tsimane, wh face high rates f micrrganism infectins, inflammatin levels were ften high. Yet this did nt lead t the same rates f chrnic diseases that are cmmn in industrialised natins.
These results raise imprtant questins. One pssibility is that inflammaging, at least as measured thrugh these bld signals, is nt a universal bilgical feature f aging. Instead, it may arise in scieties marked by high - calrie diets, lw physical activity and reduced expsure t infectins.
In ther wrds, chrnic inflammatin linked t aging and disease might nt simply result frm an
inevitable bilgical prcess, but rather frm a mismatch between ur ancient physilgy and the mdern
envirnment. If these findings are cnfirmed, they culd have sme significant cnsequences.
      32. Hw is inflammaging related t aging in the established scientific view?
      A. It attacks human rgans.
      B. It causes the inactivity f rgans.
      C. It generates veractive immune respnse.
      D. It lwers the efficiency f immune system.
      33. What des the wrd "pristine" in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
      A. Unspiled.B. Unstable.C. Unsafe.D. Unlivable.
      34. What has the study fund abut the Tsimane and Orang Asli peple?
      A. They seldm develp chrnic diseases.
      B. Their bld lacks inflammatry markers.
      C. They rarely get expsed t surces f infectin.
      D. Their inflammatin levels are independent f aging.
      35. What des the new study suggest?
      A. Inflammaging is a signal f aging.B. Inflammaging is bilgically unavidable.
      C. Repeated infectins hld back inflammaging.D. Mdern lifestyle cntributes t inflammaging.

Negtiating is a fact f life—especially business life. 36 Yu need t cnvince thers that an
idea r prmise makes sense and shw peple hw a decisin will generate a desired return. Here are sme
specific ways t make yur negtiatins mre fun and successful.
Take the initiative t make the first bid.
The value f an ffer is highly influenced by the first relevant number - an anchr - that enters a
negtiatin. 37 Research shws that when a seller makes the first ffer, the final price is typically
higher than if the buyer made the first ffer. Why? The buyer's first ffer will always be lw. That sets a lwer
      anchr.
Never give withut taking (in a gd way).
Say a buyer asks yu t cut yur price; yu shuld always get smething in return by taking smething
ff the table. 38 Fllw the same lgic if yu are the buyer. If yu make a secnd and higher ffer,
always ask fr smething in return fr that higher price.
      39
While yu prbably d have the final wrd, if the ther side knws yu're the ultimate decisin maker
that can smetimes leave yu feeling crnered. Always have a reasn t step away and get a final OK frm
anther persn, even if that ther persn is just yu. It's better t say, "I need t talk this ver," than t give in
      t pressure t make a decisin yu dn't want t make.
      Use time t yur advantage.
40 Haste always results in negtiatin waste. Plus, there's anther advantage t ging slwly.
Even thugh mney may never change hands, negtiatins are still an investment in time--and mst peple
dn't want t lse n their investments. The mre time the ther side puts in, the mre they will want t clse
      the deal and make cncessins.
      A. Try t never negtiate "alne."
      B. Make the ultimate decisin by yurself.
      C. It strngly influences the rest f the negtiatin.
      D. Never try t wrap a negtiatin up just t be dne with it.
      E. It has less t d with cmpetitin than simply cmmunicating.
      F. An pening bid primarily serves t shw yur gdwill in the deal.
      G. Every price reductin r increase in value shuld invlve a trade - ff.

Time ticked by, and sn the classrm began t empty as students finished their tests and left, except me. "Lara, class ended. I need yu t hand in yur test," Mrs. Phem said, stretching ut her hand. Reluctantly, I handed her the test paper.
The next day, I received my test back. I stared dumbfunded at the red mark: 76. Nt even a B minus, my mind screamed. Just average. It's ver. N perfect recrd. I felt an unprecedented(前所未有的) sense f frustratin and disappintment. After schl, I dragged my heavy feet back hme. When I pushed pen the dr, Jack was sitting n the cuch, reading. Seeing his leisurely state, I cried, hard t cntain the jealusy and sadness in my heart. Jack immediately nticed the depressin n my face. He asked with cncern, "What's wrng, Lara?" Blinded by frustratin mixed with a tuch f jealusy, I shuted at him "Hw I wish yu were nt s perfect!"
