Dr Kit Prendergast discvered the bee species in Perth’s Kings Park and decided t name it after her dg,
Zephyr, after nticing the bee had an unusual dglike nse.
Bees dn’t have nses. They smell with their antennae (触须), s Dr Prendergast said she was “instantly
intrigued by the bee’s very unusual face”. “When I went t identify it, I fund it matched n described species, and
I was sure that if it was a knwn species it wuld be quite easy t identify given hw unusual it was in appearance,”
      she said.
Dr Prendergast said she had always dreamed f discvering and describing a new species f native bee. When
smene discvers and fficially and scientifically describes a new species, they als get the right t name it. “Yu
can name it after smething descriptive, a lcatin, r even a famus persn r smene wh is significant in yur
life — which is exactly what I did,” Dr Prendergast said.
The fficial name f the new bee species is Leiprctus Zephyr. The wrd Leiprctus identifies the new
species as being part f a very large and varied grup f native bees and Zephyr, f curse, is the name f Dr
      Prendergast’s dg.
Dr Prendergast said she named the new bee after Zephyr because its face lked similar t a dg’s nse, but
als because f the emtinal supprt she gt frm her pet during her PhD studies. “She has been s imprtant t

my mental health and happiness during the challenging perid f ding a PhD and beynd,” Dr Prendergast said.
The discvery f the new species highlighted the imprtance f cnserving urban habitats and planting native
flwers. Dr Prendergast had fund the Leiprctus Zephyr in nly five urban bushland lcatins in suthwest
Western Australia. But her discvery meant they culd nw be prtected.

Researchers in Italy fund the mre than 2,000-year-ld Etruscan and Rman statues in the area f Tuscany.
A retired garbage man helped in the discvery f the statues, which lay in mud at the ruins f an ancient spa
(矿泉疗养地). Experts called it the biggest cllectin f ancient brnze (青铜制的) statues ever fund in Italy.
Sme said it was a majr finding that wuld “rewrite histry”.
Researchers fund the statues in 2021 and 2022 in the village f San Cascian dei Bagni. The village still has
public baths in peratin tday. Researchers had lng suspected ancient ruins culd be discvered at the site. The
      第 3页/共 10页
first few attempts t lcate the ancient baths, hwever, were unsuccessful. Then frmer garbage man and amateur
lcal histrian Stefan Petrini had an idea. He remembered that years earlier he had seen bits f ancient Rman
clumns n a wall n the ther side f the public baths. When Petrini tk researchers t the place, they knew they
      had fund the right spt.
The statues fund there were fferings frm Rmans and Etruscans wh lked t the gds fr gd health.
One f the mst amazing finds was the s-called “scrawny by”, a statue abut 90 centimetres high, f a yung
Rman with a bne disease. A small piece f writing has his name as “Marcius Grabill”. Mre unusual fferings
were als amng smaller bjects in the discvery. These included egg shells, pine cnes, medical tls and a
      2,000-year-ld piece f hair.
Wrkers permanently clsed the spa abut 1,600 years ag. The warm mud f the baths prtected the statues.
The experts say they may find anther six r 12 statues nted in a dcument fund at the site. The archaelgists
think that it may have been left by Marcius Grabill.
Petrini hpes the treasures will bring “jbs, culture and knwledge” t his village, which is struggling with
deppulatin like much f rural Italy. But he des nt want t take credit fr the discvery. “Imprtant things
always happen thanks t several peple, never thanks t nly ne,” he said. “Never.”
      8. What is Paragraph 3 mainly abut?
      A. The main value f this discvery. B. Identities f the discverers.

Imagine purchasing a rbt t perfrm husehld tasks. This rbt was built and trained in a factry n a
      第 4页/共 10页
certain set f tasks and has never seen the items in yur hme. When yu ask it t pick up a cup frm yur kitchen
table, it might nt recgnize yur cup. S, the rbt fails.
“Right nw, the way we train these rbts, when they fail, we dn’t really knw why. S yu wuld just thrw
up yur hands and say, ‘OK, I guess we have t start ver.’ A critical cmpnent that is missing frm this system is
enabling the rbt t demnstrate why it is failing s the user can give it feedback,” says Andi Peng, an electrical
engineering and cmputer science (EECS) graduate student at MIT.
Peng and her cllabratrs at MIT, New Yrk University, and the University f Califrnia at Berkeley created
a framewrk that enables humans t quickly teach a rbt what they want it t d, with a minimal amunt f effrt.
The researchers tested this technique in simulatins and fund that it culd teach a rbt mre efficiently than
ther methds. The rbts trained with this framewrk perfrmed better, while the training prcess cnsumed less
f a human’s time. Mre imprtantly, this framewrk culd help rbts learn faster in new envirnments withut
requiring a user t have technical knwledge.
Rbts ften fail due t distributin shift. One way t retrain a rbt fr a specific task is imitatin learning.
The user culd demnstrate the crrect task t teach the rbt what t d. If a user tries t teach a rbt t pick up a
cup, but demnstrates with a white cup, the rbt culd learn that all cups are white. It may then fail t pick up a
      red r blue cup.
“We want rbts t d what humans d, and we want them t d it in a meaningful way. At the end f the day,
this is really abut enabling a rbt t learn a gd, human-like representatin at an abstract level,” Peng says.
      12. What may the user d if his rbt fails accrding t the text?
      A. Let the rbt try it again. B. Shw it arund his kitchen.
      C. Analyse why the rbt failed. D. Give feedback t rbt prducers.
13 What’s the mst imprtant feature abut Peng’s framewrk?
      A. It requires users t spend much time teaching rbts.
      B. It helps rbts distinguish red cups frm white cups.
      C. It enables rbts t adapt t new surrundings better.
      D. It requires rbt users t grasp technical knwledge.
      14. What will rbts be expected t d accrding t Peng?
      A. Replace humans t d dangerus tasks.
      B. Serve humans in a psitive way.
      第 5页/共 10页
      C. Lk like humans even mre.
      D. Obey humans’ rder successfully.
      15. What is the best title fr the text?
      A. Rbts Aren’t Experienced in Husehld Tasks
      B. Imitatin Learning Is f Imprtance fr Rbts
      C. Rbts Can’t Cmpletely Meet Human’s Needs
      D. New Technique Upgrades Rbts Wh Failed t D Tasks
