Yu expect t see dctrs at hspitals. But sme vlunteers bring dgs t visit patients. The idea is that interacting with pets can help peple relax and even speed smene's recvery. But there hasn't been much research t prve it. That inspired researchers at the University f Saskatchewan.
The researchers set a test and had therapy (治疗) dgs visit 97 patients in a hspital. After ne 10-minute visit, 43 percent f the patients said they felt less pain. Almst half reprted they were less wrried. Anther 101 patients with n dg visit reprted n change in these aspects. Althugh the amunt f pain relief was small, a drp can be imprtant.
Sandra Barker, wh started ne f the first therapy dg prgrams, likes the study - fr it invlved a lt f subjects. She ntes many studies have included nly a small number f patients. This can be a prblem, as larger studies tend t be strnger and their findings mre accurate.
Hwever, sme peple are allergic (过敏的) t pet hair r afraid f dgs. The animals might ever bring an illness t the hspital, r pick up an illness frm a patient. Thus, accrding t researchers, dgs must be brushed at least 24 hurs befre a therapy visit and checked t make sure they shw n signs f illness. At the same time, they must be well-trained and have the right persnality fr the wrk. Vlunteers shuld get training if they want t use their pets as therapy animals.
The teams must make sure hspitals knw when they are cming. This way, peple with pet allergies can avid the visiting dgs. In every case, Barker pints ut that patients must be given the chance t say “n” r “yes”. But as the study shws, in the right envirnment and fr the right peple, dgs just might be the medicine.

      A. T help patients ease the pain.
      B. T prve the effect f pet therapy.
      C. T prmte patient-pet interactins.
      D. T find reasns fr patients’ illnesses.
      9. Hw did the researchers cnduct their test?
      A. By making cmparisns.
      B. By fllwing time rder.
      C. By analyzing different causes.
      D. By prviding typical examples.
      10. What des Sandra Barker think f the study?

When learning facts and infrmatin, mst f what we learn is temprarily stred in a regin f the brain called the hippcampus (海马体). Sme scientists believe that, like mst strage centers, the hippcampus has limited strage capacity. This means, if the hippcampus is full, and we try t learn mre infrmatin, we wn’t be able t.
In ne study, a grup f 44 participants underwent tw sessins f learning, nce at nn and again at 6:00 PM. Half f the grup was allwed t nap (小睡) between sessins, while the ther half tk part in standard activities. The researchers fund that the grup that napped between learning sessins learned just as easily at 6:00 PM as they did at nn. The grup that didn’t nap, hwever, experienced a significant decrease in learning ability.
It’s n surprise that the MIT study previusly mentined revealed n imprvement in scres fr thse wh nly guarantee gd sleep the night befre a big test. In fact, the MIT researchers cncluded that if students want t see an imprvement in their test scres, they have t guarantee gd sleep during the entire learning prcess.
      12. What did the tw MIT prfessrs find in 2022?

      B. Students were under t much pressure.
      C. Gd sleep imprved students’ memry.
      D. Insufficient sleep wrsened students’ grades.
      13. Accrding t sme scientists, what will happen if ur hippcampus fills up?
      A. We’ll frget things easily.B. We’ll fail t learn new things.
      C. We’ll get ready t think creatively.D. We’ll activate ther parts f ur brain.
      14. What may the MIT researchers advise students t d t imprve their test scres?
      A. Study late befre a test.B. Sleep as much as yu can.
      C. Balance study with sleep.D. Fcus n study during the daytime.
      15. What can be the best title fr the text?
      A. Staying up late t study just desn’t pay ff
      B. Paying t much attentin t scres isn’t a way ut
      C. Getting a gd sleep imprves perfrmance at schl
      D. Keeping a gd living habit brings unexpected benefits
