Skatebarding is mre than just a sprt; it’s a mix f sunds and silence. A new study shws that sund is an imprtant, yet ften undervalued part f hw skatebarders cnnect with the activity. Skatebarders nt nly see their envirnment but als feel and hear it. Phts and vides may shw the amazing mves, but they dn’t express the whle experience.
The sunds frm the city surfaces — the “skatesund”— are a key part f the skatebarding experience. These sunds enable skatebarders t check the success f their mves, test if surfaces are suitable fr skating, and send messages t thers arund them.
Hwever, the study intrduces an interesting idea — the “skatesund paradx (悖论) ”. Skatebarders are aware f the trubling nature f the nise they prduce and change their behavir accrdingly in certain situatins t make less nise. Skatebarders describe the sund f the sprt as bth unpleasant and pleasant.
Researchers frm the University f Exeter carried ut interviews with 18 adult skatebarders aged between 19 and 51 frm different places and experience levels. They fund that the skatesund made peple feel included, especially thse wh might feel left ut f mre traditinal and regular sprts. Interestingly, mst skatebarders were against the idea f listening t music thrugh headphnes (耳机) while skatebarding, viewing it as unfriendly. The sprt is cnsidered a scial activity, and wearing headphnes breaks the cnnectin with the grup and the verall experience.
Hwever, thse wh chse t listen t music thrugh headphnes while skatebarding had their reasns. Music helped with fcus fr sme skatebarders, while headphnes served as a scial barrier (障碍) fr thers, ffering them mre cnfidence.
The study shws that the skatebard is nt just a ty r sprts bject but an “ear under the feet”. Next time yu hear the sunds f wheels and the bard hitting the grund, think abut what skatebarders are listening t. They’re nt simply making nise. Skatebarders are learning thrugh their senses, cnnecting with their friends, and perhaps, finding unusual peace in a nisy wrld.
4.What des the new study fcus n?
      A. The health benefits f skatebarding practice.

      B. Paying attentin t sme simple mves.
      C. Valuing yet trying t cntrl the sund.
      D. Lwering the nise thrugh a grup effrt.
6.What did the findings frm the interviews shw abut the skatesund?
      A. It des harm t hearing ability.
      B. It creates a sense f belnging.
      C. It raises skatebarders’cnfidence.
      D. It fits well with backgrund music.

Traditinal migratin paths take birds thrugh cuntries that are nt prtecting the places fr birds t stp, rest and feed. The scientists studied the migratin r flight paths f almst 1,500 species. They decided that 91 percent f them passed thrugh dangerus areas.
The majr danger fr migratry birds is develpment. Buildings and pavements have cvered the places where birds stp and feed as they mve frm ne part f the wrld t anther. One f the scientists wh wrked n the study says “Many f these imprtant places have been lst t land reclamatin because f urban, industrial and agricultural land expansin”.
The prblem, accrding t scientists, is that many f these small birds die alng their migratin paths because they dn’t have a safe place t feed and rest. There is n place t restre their energy fr the next part f their jurney. Cuntries in Nrth Africa, Central Asia and thse alng the casts f East Asia are having the mst difficult time in prtecting land. The scientists say these cuntries d nt have enugh areas that are safe fr birds. One species that desn’t exist nw is the Eskim curlew. “Our wrld gets prer every time we lse a species,” ne f the scientists says.
The researchers say cuntries need t wrk tgether and cme up with safe stpping areas fr birds that pass thrugh their bundaries. Fr example, ne cuntry might have preserved safe znes fr migrating birds. But a neighbr cuntry might nt. A bird might die.
One scientist wh is nt cnnected with the reprt tells Ls Angeles Times that while sme habitats are changing, mre wrk can be dne t make urban areas safe fr birds.
He says small changes, like planting mre native plants r keeping cats ut f the areas birds wuld be likely t use, culd make a big difference.
8.What mainly caused the disappearing f birds’ habitats?

      A. Tiredness and hunger.B. Beast attack n the grund.
      C. Hunting f humans.D. The lng jurney.
10.Accrding t the last tw paragraphs, hw shuld we prtect the migrating birds?
      A. By keeping fewer cats r dgs.
      B. By restring their destryed habitats.
      C. By helping change the birds’ migratin paths.
      D. By preserving the eclgical envirnments n their migratin paths.
11.What is the authr’s purpse in writing the passage?
      A. T call n peple t prtect the birds’ habitats.
      B. T analyze the reasns fr disappearing f birds’ habitats.
      C. T ffer sme slutins t the prblem f birds’ habitats.
      D. T tell us a huge percentage f bird species are in danger.

      D. Why we ften frget small things in daily life.
13.Accrding t the passage, hw is memry described?
      A. A strage bx hlding different items.
      B. A web that cnnects infrmatin.
      C. A machine that never makes mistakes.
      D. A camera recrding everything.
      14.What is the key t transferring a memry frm shrt-term t lng-term?
      A. Eating healthy fd.B. Practice and repetitin.
      C. Having a high IQ.D. Writing things dwn.
15.Why is sleep imprtant fr memry?
      A. It allws the brain t rest cmpletely and stp wrking.
      B. It helps the brain t rganize and strengthen imprtant memries.
      C. It makes us frget all the infrmatin frm the day.
      D. It is the nly time when new memries can be frmed.
16.Which learning strategy is suggested in the passage?
      A. Reading passively fr many hurs.
      B. Fcusing nly n difficult knwledge.
      C. Cnnecting new knwledge t persnal experiences.
      D. Aviding discussing with thers.
