When he was just 16 and still at schl, Valentyn Frechka wanted t reduce defrestatin and find an alternative t cellulse (纤维素) — paper’s main raw material. While hiking in the Carpathian Muntains, he wndered if fallen leaves culd be the answer.
In 2021, after three years f testing in schl labratries, Frechka met a businessman named Alexander Sblenk. “We decided t start Releaf Paper as a cmmercial prject. He shwed his innvatin at several internatinal schl Olympiads in the United States, Suth Krea and Kenya, and received psitive feedback frm everyne.” Sblenk explains.
The idea is as simple as it is attractive. Releaf Paper turns what is nrmally green waste int a brand-new prduct. The wrd “Releaf” is a hmphne f the start-up’s missin: t prvide relief t the envirnment. “We cperate with big cities,” Sblenk says. “The leaves are delivered t ur prductin center, and we d sme basic cleaning, washing and drying, and then, we granulate (制成颗粒) it, s that we can use the leaves thrughut the year.” The granules are turned int pulp (浆), similar t wd pulp, which paper factries use t prduce paper.
