Envirnmentalists said it’s the first time in 30 years that city fficials have annunced plans t take less water than the maximum amunt allwed under a 1994 ruling by the State Water Resurces Cntrl Bard. Hwever, DWP said in the plan that it will review water cnditins in Nvember, and at that pint culd still decide t imprt additinal water if necessary, up t the limit f 16,000 acre-feet.
The city has been diverting water frm the Mn Basin since 1941, transprting it suth thrugh the Ls Angeles Aqueduct. Fr decades, diverting water frm the area’s rivers led t a sharp drp in the lake.
Mn Lake huses endangered birds such as Wilsn’s phalarpes, which feed n the insects near the lake. “The decisin by city fficials pens the dr t have that cnversatin abut hw we g frward in the years ahead and make sure we achieve the prtectin at Mn Lake,” Gld said.

Ria Kalluri and her cwrkers gave a simple demand t Dall-E. This bt uses AI t make images. “We asked fr an image f a disabled persn leading a meeting,” says Kalluri. It shuldn’t be hard fr Dall-E.
But the bt culdn’t d it.
Dall-E prduced “a persn wh is visibly disabled watching a meeting while smene else leads,” Kalluri recalls, wh studies AI at Stanfrd University in Califrnia.
Kalluri’s grup als fund examples f many ther types f bias (偏差) in images made by bts. Sadly, all f these biases are assumptins that many peple als make. But AI paints a wrld that is mre biased than reality.
In additin t Dall-E, Kalluri’s grup als tested Stable Diffusin, anther image-making bt. “When asked fr phts f an attractive persn, its results were all light-skinned,” says Kalluri. “And many had eyes that were bright blue—bluer than real peple’s.”
“This is a big deal,” Kalluri says. Biased images can cause real harm. Seeing them tends t strengthen peple’s steretypes (刻板印象). A fld f AI-made biased imagery culd be extremely difficult t vercme (克服).
Develpers train bts such as Dall-E r Stable Diffusin t create images. They d this by shwing them many example images. “But a lt f these images are utdated,” explains Kalluri.
AI image generatrs average their training data tgether t create a big map. In this map, similar wrds and images are gruped clser tgether. Bts can’t knw anything abut the wrld beynd their training data, ntes Kalluri. They cannt create r imagine new things. That means AI-made images can nly reflect hw peple and things appeared in the images n which they trained.
Kalluri desn’t think this type f apprach will wrk in the lng term. In her eyes, lcal cmmunities wuld gather data fr AI and train it fr their wn purpses. She wishes fr “technlgies that supprt ur cmmunities.” This, she says, is hw t avid bias and harm.
      12. What is Dall-E able t d?
      A. Watch a baby.
      B. Chair a meeting.
      C. Create images.
      D. Give directins.
      13. Why did Kalluri’s grup test Stable Diffusin?
      A. T better a practical app.
      B. T change its functin.
      C. T print an attractive pht.
      D. T cnfirm their wrry.
      14. What can be knwn abut AI-made images?
      A. They are built n the past.
      B. They feature creativity.
      C. They reflect ur current wrld.
      D. They are quite meaningful.
      15. What des the text mainly talk abut?
      A. The future f AI-pwered tls.
      B. Prblems f AI image prducers.
      C. The slutin t AI’s develpment.
      D. Peple’s misunderstanding f AI.
