I didn’t have the chance t run in the park and be carried n shulders when I was tired. But as an adult I realize what I gained by watching my dad heal his bdy, spirit and life with determinatin. I learned that it was up t us t decide whether we’ d be ashamed r accept urselves and thers as cmplete. Mm still has a family prtrait (全家福) I painted in secnd grade shwing my father using tw silver sticks as extensins (延伸) f his arms.
Mst f all, caregivers learn t care. They see the need t pen the dr fr the next persn even fr a few secnds. They learn t see the needs f thers, even when it hurts. Caregivers understand that everyne needs t cntribute and have a sense f cmmunity.
Recently, a participant in a prgram that I rganized cmmented that I had cmfrting eyes. Withut hesitatin, I respnded, “I grew up with a disabled father. Early in life, I wuld decide when it was time t be a child r a prblem slver. ” Althugh I may have missed enjying a ride n my father’s shulders, I had a chance t develp cmfrting eyes and everything that ges with that, always ready t help.

The web is an infrmatin paradise (天堂) and a hell (地狱) at the same time. The platfrms that cntrl search were brn in sin (罪恶). Their business mdel sells ur mst precius and limited cgnitive (认知的) resurce: attentin. These platfrms wrk vertime t attract ur attentin by feeding infrmatin that excites curisity r causes anger. The mre ur eyesballs remain glued (盯着看) t the screen, the mre ads they can shw us, and the mre prfits they get.
It is hardly surprising, therefre, that all this culd harm ur cllective attentin. A recent analysis f scial media cntent fund that the rate at which the ppularity f items rises and drps has accelerated. In a perid f three years, fr example, the ppularity duratin (持续时间) f a tpic n scial media decreased frm an average f 17.5 hurs t 11.9 hurs. Mre cmpetitin leads t shrter cllective attentin intervals, which lead t ever-increasing cmpetitin fr ur attentin.
T regain cntrl, we need cgnitive strategies (策略) that help us regain at least sme independence and prtect us frm the traps (陷阱) and infrmatin disrders f tday’s attentin ecnmy.
The textbk cgnitive strategy is critical (批判性) thinking. But it is nt enugh. The digital wrld cntains mre infrmatin than the wrld’s libraries cmbined. Much f it cmes frm uncnfirmed surces and is f dubtful trustwrthiness. Critically thinking thrugh all the infrmatin and surces we cme acrss wuld cmpletely disable us. Mrever, applying critical thinking t surces that shuld have been ignred in the first place means that thse seeking ur attentin have been gifted what they wanted.
S, we argue that as much as we need critical thinking, we als need critical ignring. Critical ignring is mre than just nt paying attentin — it’s abut practicing mindful and healthy habits in the face f infrmatin verlad. Withut it, we will drwn in a sea f infrmatin that is, at best, distracting and, at wrst, misleading and harmful.
8. Why d the platfrms keep us glued t the screen?

C. T excite strng feelings.D. T attract mre advertisements.
9. What des the underlined wrd “accelerated” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. fallen dwn.B. Speeded up.C. Grwn smallerD. Becme lnger.

B. Trustwrthy infrmatin is rare n the Internet.
C. It can imprve ur critical thinking skills.
D. It helps us deal with infrmatin verlad.
11. What might the authr talk abut next?
A. The strategies fr critical ignring.
B. The harm f misleading infrmatin.
C. The ways t imprve cgnitive strategies.
D. The need fr cntrl f nline platfrms.

Sme specialists dubt ften using nise-cancelling headphnes against backgrund nise may hurt peple’s hearing skills. Accrding t Harvey, a prfessr at the University f Manchester, listening experience affects ur ability t segregate backgrund nise. Interrupting what is heard can be mre prblematic fr children than adults. If a child has repeated ear infectins befre age five, they’ ll find it hard later t fcus n sunds frm ne directin. Surprisingly, many dn’t catch up and need t learn the skill thrugh training n apps such as Sund Strm.
Prfessr Dani at the University f Melburne says peple wh use nise-cancelling headphnes fr lng perids may find listening harder when they take them ff. But she says the benefits shuld nt be verlked fr managing sensry inputs. “Instead f suggesting abandning nise-cancelling headphnes, we need t stress the need fr mre cmprehensive research studies,” she adds.
Fr nw, Prfessr Dani recmmends bne cnductin (骨传导) headphnes and hearing training. She urges patients t listen t radi debates and t take dwn the lyrics f rap sngs. “There’s great buncing ability in the brain. Make an effrt t listen t what’s being said.”
12. What prblem d headphnes bring abut t the wearers?
A. Making their scial life difficult.
B. Affecting their fcus f attentin.
C. Causing their ttal lss f hearing.
D. Leading t their lazy state f mind.
13. What des the underlined wrd “segregate” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Strengthen.B. Separate.C. Access.D. Create.
14. Why des Prfessr Dani recmmend listening t radi debates?
A. It’s beneficial fr peple with perfect hearing.
B. It’s effective fr children under the age f five.
C. It helps train the brain t better prcess and fcus.
D. It’s fr entertainment with n harm t hearing skills.
15. What is a suitable title fr the text?
A. APD Can Be Cured with Prper Exercise
B. Specialists Call Attentin t APD Disease
C. Headphnes Are Beneficial t Mst Adults
D. Nise-Cancelling Headphnes Cause a Cnditin
