It all started when then 16-year-ld Byan Slat was scuba diving (水肺潜水) in Greece and was surprised t see mre plastic than fish. The questin “Why dn’t we just clean it up?” stayed in his mind, and led him t devte his high schl science prject t understanding the prblem.
After a year f experimenting, Byan came up with the idea t use the cean currents t his advantage, and let them be the driving frce behind catching and cllecting the plastic. Instead f ging after the plastic, yu culd let the plastic cme t yu.
Initially, his idea did nt gain attentin. He decided t quit his studies and funded The Ocean Cleanup, with just 300 eurs f savings as a starting capital.
