“It’s really imprtant t rle-mdel screen behavirs fr yur children,” says Jasn Nagata, lead authr f the study. “Even if teens dn’t think they are influenced by their parents, the data shws they are.”
“Instead f beating urselves up abut it,” says Jenny Radesky, a researcher at the University f Michigan, “it’s imprtant fr parents t realize that just like kids, we are pen t the draws f technlgy that is purpsely designed t keep us scrlling (浏览).”
But even if parents are fighting against bigger frces designed t keep us glued t screens, that desn’t mean we are cmpletely helpless. Nagata’s research als lked fr slutins that wrked best t limit screen-use specifically amng teenagers because we tend t see kids spending a lt mre time n scial media nce they hit their teenage years.
Keeping meal times and bedtime screen-free helps kids spend less time n screens. Nagata’s earlier research als fund that keeping screens ut f bedrms helps kids sleep better. Anther key pint: When parents use screens t much, kids ntice that. Teens ften feel their parents are distracted (注意力分散的) and unavailable because they are fcused n their wn phnes. Abut 4,700 years ag, King Djser, the first ruler f Egypt’s Third Dynasty, built a pyramid in Saqqara, an ancient burial site in Egypt.
N ne knws exactly hw the pyramid was built. It tk millins f massive blcks. Sme f thse blcks weighed up t 2,500 kilgrams. Experts have prpsed several techniques-including ramps and cranes — t mve such heavy stne blcks. They have als thught abut rpe-and-pulley devices and wden rllers.
Researchers nw suggest that ancient peple used a water-pwered system t cnstruct this pyramid. Hw? Builders wuld have cntrlled flws f water int and ut f a large shaft (竖井) inside the pyramid. The water’s mvement wuld have lifted and lwered a platfrm that carried building stnes t higher levels.
This idea cmes frm a study led by Xavier Landreau, a scientist wh researches ancient technlgy. The team fund that a branch f the Nile River nce flwed near 31 pyramids, including Djser’s. It’s dried up nw. But bats carrying wrkers and building blcks culd have traveled this branch f the Nile between 3,700 and 4,700 years ag. Landreau believes designers f Djser’s pyramid develped techniques fr cntrlling water flw.
Landreau’s team created a cmputer mdel using data frm the pyramid, undergrund waterways, and satellite images f the regin. The mdel als included a nearby structure called Gisr el-Mudir, which may have cllected rainwater. During heavy rains, this area might have turned int a lake, sending water int the pyramid’s shaft. Inside the shaft, a huge wden flat (浮子) may have been cnnected t rpes and pulleys. When water filled the shaft, the flat wuld rise, lwering a platfrm t pick up stnes. As the water drained (排空), the flat wuld sink, pulling the platfrm and stnes upward.
Nt all experts agree with this idea. Kamil Kuraszkiewicz, an Egyptlgist at the University f Warsaw in Pland, questins whether the lake Gisr el-Mudir existed, as ancient recrds d nt mentin it. “Building the water-pwered system,” he says, “wuld have required much mre effrt than t mve the stne blcks using just manpwer.”

A. Scientists have reached an agreement n it.
B. Few stne blcks were transprted by bat.
C. There’s n widely accepted explanatin fr it.
D. Rpe-and-pulley devices were the main methd.
33. What des Landreau’s study find?
A. Waterpwer likely gave a big lift t the pyramid builders.
B. The branches f the Nile River were nce badly plluted.
C. The 3D mdel ffers insights int the life in ancient times.
D. Pyramid designers develped techniques fr fighting flds.
34. What des the authr want t explain in paragraph 5?
A. The exact purpse f Gisr el-Mudir.B. Hw the water-pwered system wrks.
C. The discvery f an undergrund river.D. Why Djser’s pyramid was cnstructed.
35. What is Kamil’s attitude twards the new finding?
