Hwever, the idea fr his mst imprtant inventin came when he was ding vluntary wrk in the hspital. “I saw hw much the patients were suffering, hw much help they needed, and hw hard the nurses were wrking,” Stewart tld The Guardian. He realized that tuching smething after smene else is risky because that’s hw many germs (病菌) spread.
Driven by this idea, Stewart develped a self-sanitizing (自动消毒的) dr handle that uses UV light (紫外线). It kills 99.9 percent f germs but is still safe fr peple and animals. The inventin culd be very useful fr stpping the spread f disease in places like hspitals.

T d that, we wuld need t plant s many trees that they wuld cver all f Nrth and Central America. The researchers fund that trees cannt absrb carbn as fast as these 200 large il, gas, and cal cmpanies prduce it. There simply isn’t enugh land n Earth fr all the trees we wuld need.
Als, if these cmpanies had t pay fr planting all thse trees, it wuld cst $ 10.8 trillin. That’s mre mney than all these big cmpanies are actually wrth cmbined. “Peple might think planting trees is a magic slutin, but it’s nt,” said Nina Friggens, ne f the researchers.
Many cmpanies, including fssil fuel businesses, pay fr tree-planting prgrams t cancel ut their pllutin. Trees are a cheap way t d this because they naturally absrb carbn.
Fr the study, the researchers lked at the 200 cmpanies that wn the mst fssil fuels undergrund (like il and cal they plan t use in the future). They calculated hw much CO2 wuld be released if all these fuels were burned.
Anther scientist, Jnathan Fley, explained the results simply. He said, “Planting trees is like using a spnge (海绵) t clean up a big water spill. But if we keep spilling mre and mre water, the spnge wn’t be able t keep up. First, we need t turn ff the tap.”

Cnstructin rbts are nt new. They have been ding difficult jbs n building sites fr sme time. Nw, there is a new rbt named Charltte. It is said that this rbt can build a 2,150-square-ft huse all by itself in just ne day. It wrks as fast as abut 100 human wrkers.
Charltte was created by tw Australian cmpanies. One cmpany develped a special, envirnmentally friendly building material. This material is made frm sand, waste glass, and brken bricks fund lcally. The ther cmpany built the rbt.
Traditinal building needs a lt f steps, like fixing steel bars (钢筋) and setting up wden frames (框架). But Charltte is different. It uses a special system t 3D print the building material, layer (层) by layer. It can even mve and lift itself up using its “spider legs”. All this is dne by ne machine in a single, cntinuus prcess.
The rbt is still being develped. It will prbably take a few years befre it builds its first real huse. A smaller early mdel was shwn at a recent exhibitin. The cmpanies have big dreams fr Charltte. They hpe it will nt nly build huses n Earth in the future but als help build bases fr research n the Mn. They say its design, which cpies ideas frm nature, and its ability t wrk alne make it perfect fr the Mn.
While Charltte seems best fr simple building styles right nw, its main gal is t help with tw big prblems: nt enugh wrkers and slw building prgress. These prblems make it hard t slve the husing shrtage in many cuntries. The huses it builds can keep ut flds and resist fire. The building prcess is much faster and cheaper than traditinal methds. If the materials are taken frm nearby places, it can als be better fr the envirnment by reducing carbn emissins.
Of curse, this rbt builder wn’t be the right slutin fr every place, climate, r what every persn likes, but fr the millins f peple wh need a hme, it sunds like a very hpeful way t help slve part f the prblem.
32. Which aspect f Charltte is mentined in paragraph 1?
A. Its amazing wrk efficiency.B. Its widespread applicatin.
C. Its envirnmental quality.D. Its cnvenient peratin.
33. Hw is Charltte’s building prcess different frm traditinal methds?
A. It needs mre time.B. It requires mre wrkers.
C. It fcuses n wden structures.D. It uses a single cntinuus prcess.
34. What future applicatin d the cmpanies expect f Charltte?
A. Repairing histrical buildings.B. Develping new building materials.
C. Building research bases n the Mn.D. Creating artistic statues fr famus peple.
35. What is the authr’s attitude t the rbt builder?
A. Critical.B. Psitive.C. DubtfulD. Uncaring.
