At 15, I unwillingly jined a muntain-climbing camp in the Rckies. My fear f heights made me stand still, but my parents insisted it wuld “build character.” On the first mrning, ur instructr, Sarah, gathered us at the base. “This climb isn’t abut speed r strength,” she said. “It’s abut listening — t yur bdy, the muntain, and yur teammates.” I rlled my eyes, believing that reaching the tp was the nly measure f success.
My teammate Jake, a cnfident athlete, dashed ahead, laughing at my careful and slw pace. “Yu’re wasting time!” he yelled. By midday, hwever, his cnfidence brke. Jake slipped n a narrw ledge (岩架), shaking frm thirst and muscle pain. Meanwhile, I adjusted my equipment, sipped water every 15 minutes, and studied the rck frmatins (构造). When strm cluds darkened the sky, fear struck me. Sarah’s vice eched in my mind: “Cntrl what yu can. Let g f what yu can’t.”
The final stretch tested everyne. Jake fell behind, humbled and silent. I fcused n three steps: plant, pull, and breathe. At the tp, wind hit my face as I gazed at the valley (峡谷) belw. Jake walked clse t me, vice shaky. “I wanted t prve I was the best,” he admitted. “But I frgt t respect the muntain.” That mment reshaped my understanding f grwth — it wasn’t abut reaching the tp but abut being humble and patient.
Years later, as a guide, I teach philsphy (哲学) at a high schl. One student recently asked, “What if I fail?” I smiled. “Failure isn’t falling, it’s refusing t learn why yu fell.” Muntains mirrr life’s struggles: unpredictable, demanding, yet transfrmative (能使人改变的). Every struggle and setback makes us strnger. The real tp isn’t a place — it’s the wisdm we carry back t the wrld belw.

A new study has fund that sme f the httest heatwaves in histry happened a lng time ag and were nt well knwn. Scientists frm the University f Bristl did this research and said that as ur wrld gets warmer, we can expect even htter heatwaves in the future.
The study fund five very ht heatwaves that were nt talked abut much. Dr. Vikki Thmpsn, wh led the study, said that the heatwave in Canada and the United States was very surprising, but there were even htter nes in the past. She als said that using what we knw abut the climate, we can guess that very ht days will get mre cmmn in the next 100 years.
Heatwaves can cause a lt f prblems. The ne in western Nrth America was very bad and caused many catastrphes. It als started big fires that damaged many things and ruined crps. Peple will remember this heatwave because it caused s much damage.
Even thugh the httest places are nt always the nes that have the biggest prblems, they are ften cnnected. Knwing mre abut the very ht days and where they happen can help prtect the mst vulnerable regins.
Prfessr Dann Mitchell, wh als wrked n the study, said that climate change is a big health prblem fr everyne n Earth. He pinted ut that many heatwaves in places that are nt very rich were nt nticed. When a cuntry gets very ht, it can cause many peple t die, especially if the temperature is nt nrmal fr them.
The University f Bristl cares abut the prblems caused by climate change and wants t help fix them. In 2019, it was the first university in the UK t say that there is a climate emergency (紧急情况).

In a cntest fr jbs requiring the mst patience, art restratin (修复) might take first place. Traditinally, cnservatrs restre paintings by recreating the artwrk’s exact clrs t fill in the damage, ne spt at a time. Even with the help f X-ray imaging and clring analyses, several parts f the expensive prcess, such as the cleaning and restring, are dne by hand. Meanwhile, direct restring might devalue the painter’s riginal visin.
That’s where Alex Kachkine cmes in. The MIT student has develped a way t apply digital restratins nt a damaged painting. In shrt, the apprach invlves using pre-existing AI tls t create a digital versin f what the freshly painted artwrk wuld have lked like. Based n this versin, Kachkine’s new sftware creates a digital map f the retuches (修复点) with exact clrs, necessary t fill the gaps present in the painting tday.
The digital map is then printed nt tw layers f thin, see-thrugh film (膜) — ne with clred retuches and ne with the same pattern in white. The film with tw layers frms a mask. This mask is attached t the painting t psitin the retuches, which helps achieve a faithful restratin in just hurs — instead f mnths f wrk.
Kachkine demnstrated the apprach n a 15th-century il painting in need f restratin, by a Dutch artist whse name is nw unknwn. The retuches were generated by matching the surrunding clr, cpying similar patterns visible elsewhere in the painting r the artist’s style in ther paintings. Overall, the painting’s 5,612 damaged regins were filled with 57, 314 different clrs in 3.5 hurs — 66 hurs faster than traditinal methds wuld have likely taken.
The new prcess still causes cncerns, such as whether the applied film affects the viewing experience r whether AI-generated crrectins t the painting are crrect and true. Still, Kachkine says this technique culd help address the large number f damaged artwrks that live in strage rms, enabling the restratin f cuntless damaged paintings cnsidered nt wrth high cnservatin budgets.
32.What can we knw abut traditinal art restratin?
A.It causes mre damage.B.It cnsumes mre labr.
C.It lacks technical assistance.D.It adds the value f an artwrk.
      33.What can Kachkine’s new sftware d?
      A.Decrate the damaged paintings.B.Make a map f clred retuches.
      C.Create a vivid cpy f the painting.D.Prmte the applicatin f AI tls.
34.Hw were the retuches f 15th-century il painting achieved?
      A.By applying extra clrs.
B.By referring t ther painters’ wrks.
      C.By learning frm traditinal methds.
D.By studying the artist’s painting techniques.
35.Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
      A.Hw AI Influences Our Future
B.A New Brush fr Art Restratin
      C.When Restratin Meets Tight Budgets
D.A Rising Cnservatr f Ancient Paintings
