Selling used bks is easier than ever, thanks t technlgy. AbeBks is a glbal platfrm t sell rare bks, textbks, fine art, cllectibles, maps, cmics, and paper cllectibles. Because this site is best-knwn fr rare bks, it’s a gd place fr peple wh want t sell first editins and antique bks.
Hw t sell used bks n AbeBks
There is a minimum $25/mnth membership fee t start selling, and that’s fr 0 — 500 bks listed n the site. The tiered (阶梯式的) pricing ges up frm there, all the way t $500/ mnth if yu have ver 50,000 bks in their system.
Sellers need t describe, stre and ship the items themselves, and yu als get t set yur wn shipping rates and speeds. Anything yu list is autmatically listed n their six internatinal platfrms fr a much wider reach.
If yu nly want t sell a few bks — like yu want t fflad sme rare bks yu inherited (继承) frm yur great aunt, r yu want t sell last semester’s textbks — AbeBks has a buyback prgram. They wrk with TextbkRush fr textbks and Ziffit fr everything else.
AbeBks des nt accept lw-quality r damaged items. But the biggest dwnside f selling used bks n AbeBks is the selling fees, which are higher than mst sites. Here are the fees:
●$25/ mnth + mnthly membership fee
      ●8% cmmissin (佣金)
      ●5.5% credit card prcessing fee
On the upside, yu get t list yur bks n a site that’s knwn fr rare, classical, r cllectible bks. Imprtantly, thse bks are listed internatinally at n extra charge. That’s why it’s pssible t list yur bks n AbeBks fr mre than n ther sites.
      1. Which f the fllwing bks are mst ppular with AbeBks?
      A. Inherited ancient bks.B. Mass-market paperbacks.
      C. Newly-published textbks.D. Children’s hand-drawn pictures.
      2. What is a requirement fr sellers t sell used bks n AbeBks?
      A. Cver their shipping rates themselves.B. Keep a supply f at least 500 bks.
      C. Pay a mnthly membership fee.D. List bks n six internatinal platfrms.
      3. What is the main advantage f selling used bks n AbeBks?
      A. Much lwer selling fees.
      B. High-quality membership service.
      C. Wider internatinal reach at n extra cst.
      D. Accepting diverse bks regardless f cnditin.

Cckats are knwn fr their intelligence and prblem-slving abilities. Unlike crws, they have strng beaks (喙), which help them tackle cmplex challenges. In the past, scientists bserved them pening heavy trash can cvers t find fd.
In 2018, Dr. Barbara Klump nticed a cckat drinking frm a public drinking funtain. She thught smene had left the water running by mistake. But after lking at a vide, she realized that the bird was actually turning n the funtain by itself.
Dr. Klump and her team decided t study the cckats mre clsely. They labeled 24 cckats and set up tw cameras near a drinking funtain that the birds used ften. The cameras recrded 14 hurs f vide ver 44 days and gained 525 instances f the birds using the funtain.
The study fund that abut 70% f the birds made effrts t use the funtain. Each bird used at least ne ft t hld dwn the handle, while sme placed their ther ft n the sput (喷口). After turning n the water, they wuld drink.
“It’s a bit f an awkward bdy psitin they have t hld,” said Lucy Aplin, ne f the scientists invlved in the study. “The birds nly gt water in abut 41% f their effrts t use the funtain. They had an especially hard time when they were in a hurry r when ther cckats were trying t use the funtain at the same time.”
The scientists aren’t exactly sure why the cckats started using the drinking funtains. They say ne pssible reasn is that the clean water tastes better t them than water frm a stream. Anther pssibility is that drinking frm the funtain feels safer, since it makes it easier t keep an eye ut fr birds that might attack them, like eagles. Dr. Klump nted the birds might simply enjy the challenge f making the funtain wrk. “If… yu’re nt dying f thirst,” she says, “Then why nt d smething yu enjy?”

Having nightmares (噩梦) n a weekly basis seems t speed up aging and may increase the risk f early death, accrding t a study by Abidemi Otaiku at Imperial Cllege Lndn. Otaiku and his clleagues analyzed data frm ver 183,000 adults aged 26 t 86 wh had participated in several studies. At the start, participants reprted their nightmare frequency, and were subsequently tracked fr up t 19 years.
The research revealed that thse with weekly nightmares were mre than three times as likely t die befre reaching 70 cmpared t thse wh rarely r never had nightmares. Otaiku emphasized a clear link between nightmare frequency and premature death, nting it was a strnger predictr than smking, verweight, pr diet, r lack f physical activity. He is set t present these findings at the Eurpean Academy f Neurlgy Cngress in 2025.
T assess the participants’ bilgical age, the team measured telmere (端粒) length, which shrtens with each cell divisin and is assciated with premature aging. The study als included data frm abut 2,400 children aged 8 t 10, whse nightmare frequency was reprted by their parents. Adults’ bilgical age was further evaluated using epigenetic clcks (表观遗传时钟).
Otaiku fund a cnsistent assciatin between frequent nightmares and sped-up aging. Children with mre frequent nightmares had shrter telmeres, indicating faster cellular aging. In adults, this sped-up bilgical aging accunted fr abut 40% f the increased death risk.
Otaiku suggested tw pssible reasns fr this assciatin. First, nightmares raise stress hrmne crtisl levels, linked t faster cellular aging. Secnd, disturbed sleep impacts the bdy’s nightly cellular repair prcesses, increasing the risk f varius medical cnditins, including heart disease.
Otaiku advised simple steps t avid regular nightmares, such as aviding scary mvies and seeking treatment fr anxiety. Guy Leschziner frm Guy’s and St Thmas’ NHS Fundatin Trust highlighted the bilgical reasnableness f the findings but stressed the need fr mre research t establish causality, as nightmares culd be assciated with ther age-related medical cnditins and medicatins.
      12. Hw did the researchers cnduct the study?
      A. By presenting facts.B. By giving examples.
      C. By analyzing statistics.D. By interviewing participants.
      13. Why did the researchers use bth telmeres and epigenetic clcks in the study?
      A. T make age measurement easier.
      B. T cnfirm DNA damage frm nightmares.
      C. T cmpare aging speeds in children and adults.
      D. T understand bilgical age mre cmprehensively.
      14. What is Guy Leschziner’s attitude twards the findings f the study?
      A. Cmpletely ppsed.B. Skeptical and dismissive.
      C. Enthusiastically supprtive.D. Partially psitive but reserved.
      15. What is the main idea f the text?
      A. Ways t prevent nightmares are widely explred.
      B. Nightmares are cmmn amng peple f all ages.
      C. Weekly nightmares may lead t faster aging and early death.
      D. The Eurpean Academy f Neurlgy Cngress fcuses n nightmares.
