China’s technique f grwing Junca, the herbal (草本的) plant used in the grwing f edible (可食用的)
mushrms, has cntributed t glbal pverty reductin, agrnmist Lin Zhanxi said at the Delegates’ Passage
      befre the 20th Natinal Cngress f the Cmmunist Party f China n Oct.16, 2022.
“We ffer training at hme and abrad, send ur experts t teach lcal farmers, and we d serve them heart
and sul as ur brthers,” said Lin, the chief scientist f the Natinal Junca Technlgy Research Center, wh
discvered and shares this mushrm-grwing technlgy beynd China fr years. The technique was later
prmted frm East China’s Fujian prvince t ther areas in the cuntry and has even reached cuntries acrss the
      wrld.
As a fungi(真菌) expert, Lin said he first came up with the idea f using Junca grass instead f wd fr
prducing mushrms in the 1970s. In 1971, Lin was the first persn t suggest the idea f cultivating edible fungi
in chpped-up wild grass. After a research in rural areas in Fujian prvince in 1983, he decided t d research t
put his idea int practice. At the end f 1986, Lin saw the first Junca mushrm grwing in his labratry. Since
then, Lin and his team have develped the technlgy by using 45 different kinds f grasses as Junca fungi grass.
Junca mved 17,700 farmers ut f pverty in Nrthwest China’s Ningxia Hui autnmus regin. The
technique has been prmted t 106 cuntries and regins arund the wrld.
Twenty years ag, villagers in the Eastern Highlands Prvince f Papua New Guinea began t learn this
mdern bilgical technlgy with the help f Chinese agrnmists. After the experimental planting f Junca
grass was successful in Papua New Guinea, villagers shuted “Junca, China!” t express their excitement, Lin
said. Many peple in the Suth Pacific, Latin America and African cuntries have shaken ff pverty thrugh
grwing Junca grass and mushrms, he added.
Mre than 12,000 Chinese experts have been trained t prmte the technique wrldwide, cntributing
Chinese wisdm t the achievement f the United Natins’ Sustainable Develpment Gals by 2030, Lin said.
      24. Accrding t the passage, hw is Junca technlgy prmted glbally?
      A. By prviding financial supprt t lcal farmers.
      B. By ffering training and sending experts abrad.
      C. By establishing research centers in freign cuntries.

Many peple in America believe that “mre is better”. Cllege students ften share this idea when they use
laptps in class. Laptps d allw students t d mre, such as getting engaged in nline activities, and accessing
infrmatin frm the Internet. In fact, students wh use laptps ften take many mre ntes than thse wh write
by hand. Mrever, when students take ntes using laptps, they tend t take ntes verbatim, writing dwn every
wrd the teacher says. Obviusly, they believe that it is advantageus t take mre cmplete ntes that are useful
      fr later review.
Hwever, research by Pam Mueller and Daniel Oppenheimer shws a surprising result. Acrss the
experiments, Mueller and Oppenheimer had students take ntes in a classrm setting and then tested students n
their memry fr factual detail, their cnceptual (概 念 的 ) understanding f the material, and their ability t
generalize the infrmatin. Half f the students were instructed t take ntes with a laptp, and the ther half were
instructed t write the ntes ut by hand. In each study, hwever, thse wh wrte ut their ntes by hand had a
strnger cnceptual understanding and were mre successful in applying the material than thse wh tk ntes
      with their laptps.
What drives this unexpected finding? Writing by hand is slwer and frces students t listen carefully. They
must think abut what is imprtant and then summarize the infrmatin in their wn wrds. This prcess makes the
brain wrk harder and helps them understand and remember better. On the ther hand, typing n a laptp is s fast
that many students write everything dwn withut thinking deeply abut the lecture. This type f nte-taking des
      nt help them learn well.
      第 6页/共 13页
The research by Mueller and Oppenheimer serves as a reminder, hwever, that even when technlgy allws
us t d mre in less time, it des nt always fster (促进) learning. Even thugh laptps let students recrd a lt f
infrmatin quickly, deep learning happens when the brain must wrk t chse and summarize key ideas.
      28. What des the underlined wrd “verbatim” in the first paragraph mean?
      A. Exactly as spken. B. Regularly as they d.
C Creatively as expected. D. Perfectly as tld.
      29. What d Mueller and Oppenheimer find in their research?
      A. Students wh take ntes with a laptp learn mre.
      B. Cllege teachers increasingly turn t technlgy in class.
      C. Students wh write ut their ntes n paper utperfrm the rest.
      D. Mre cmplete ntes are very useful fr later review.
      30. What is the main purpse f the third paragraph?
      A. T challenge a cmmn viewpint. B. T make a predictin.
      C. T prvide a detailed explanatin. D. T summarize the main argument.
      31. What shuld students d when it cmes t learning accrding t the text?
      A. Summarize key ideas after recrding lectures.
      B. Use mre brain pwer instead f technlgy.
      C. Have a memry test shrtly after each lessn.
      D. Fcus n memrizing infrmatin thrughly.
      D
Yu stayed up t late scrlling thrugh yur phne, answering emails r watching just ne mre episde. The
next mrning, yu feel sleepy and impatient. That dessert r sandwich suddenly lks mre appealing than yur
usual ygurt and berries. This isn’t just abut willpwer. Yur brain, shrt n rest, is pushing yu tward quick,
      high-calrie fixes.
Research shws that nt enugh sleep disturbs hunger signals, weakens self-cntrl and increases the risk f
weight gain. Lack f sleep affects millins. Mre than ne-third f U.S. adults regularly get less than seven hurs
f sleep per night. Nearly three-quarters f adlescents fall shrt f the recmmended 8-10 hurs f sleep during
the schl week. First respnders, including nurses, firefighters and emergency wrkers, are especially vulnerable
due t night shifts and varying uncntrllable schedules. These patterns disturb the bdy’s internal clck and are
      第 7页/共 13页
linked t increased appetite, pr eating habits and higher risks fr besity and metablic (新陈代谢的) disease.
Studies shw that after just ne night f sleep deprivatin (匮乏), reward-related areas such as the amygdala, a
part f the brain that drives mtivatin and reward-seeking, becme mre reactive t inviting fd. Yur brain
becmes mre excited by junk fd and less capable f resisting it. Participants in sleep deprivatin studies nt
nly rated high-calrie fds as mre desirable but were als mre likely t chse them, regardless f hw hungry
      they actually felt.
Sleep is as imprtant as diet and exercise in maintaining a healthy weight. Frtunately, even a few nights f
regular, high-quality sleep can help rebalance key systems and start t reduce sme f these effects. In a culture that
praises hard-wrk and late nights, sleep is ften treated as ptinal. S the next time yu find yurself reaching fr
junk fd after a shrt night, recgnize that yur bilgy is reacting t stress. Sleep is yur mst pwerful tl fr
appetite cntrl, energy regulatin and lng-term health.
      32. Why d peple prefer high-calrie fd after pr sleep?
      A. They have a natural preference fr it.
      B. High-calrie fds are mre attractive.
      C. Sleep lss stimulates the brain fr appetite.
      D. Peple are actually very hungry.
      33. Accrding t the passage, why are first respnders mre likely t suffer frm sleep prblems?
      A. Their increased appetite. B. Their lack f awareness.
C Their shifting schedules. D. Their pr eating habits.
      34. What des the authr advcate in the last paragraph?
      A. Getting enugh sleep. B. Cnducting mre sleep research.
      C. Staying away frm junk fd. D. Prmting a cultural shift.
      35. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the passage?
      A. The Dangers f Sleep Deprivatin B. Sleep’s Rle in Appetite Cntrl
      C. The Brain’s Reward System and Sleep D. Sleep Lss and Mdern Wrk Culture
