By furth grade, I std taller than my classmates — and even my teacher, Miss Listn. Unfrtunately, my height far utpaced bth my crdinatin (协调性) and academic skills. I became the class clwn, struggling with arithmetic, spelling, and reading. Recess (课间休息) was wrse: while peers raced thrugh games and sprts, I stumbled ver my wn feet — Clumsy was my middle name.
Each afternn, Miss Listn cncluded the day by reading t the class fr fifteen minutes. I’d sigh with relief at the end f anther embarrassing day, lsing myself in her vice and the stry, usually a chapter frm a nvel. If I culd read with ease I culd find my way t happier places and times. Miss Listn apparently nticed my absrbed attentin. I dn’t remember hw she tk me under her wing but by the time I mved n t fifth grade I was reading at an eighth-grade level. Five years f struggling t craft a single gd sentence were enugh — I quit writing. But I culdn’t survive n hunger r gd lks, s I trained as a registered nurse.
One evening, an ambulance delivered an elderly wman wh’d suffered a strke. As I apprached, the medical assistant reprted: “Seventy-eight-year-ld Agnes Listn, fund at hme by neighbrs...” I recgnized Miss Listn’s slackened face. I smiled sftly, “Hell, Miss Listn. It’s Tmmy Schwarz. D yu remember me?” She stared, her facial muscles twitching faintly.
I learned she’d utlived her family and friends; n ne visited during her hspitalizatin. Fr three days, I sat by her bedside, reading alud. She culdn’t cmmunicate, but her calm demeanr (举止) suggested cmfrt. I felt privileged t give back in a direct and persnal way t smene wh had lved and helped me s much.

T knw bdy language better, Christina Stach, a 25-year-ld healthcare prvider, read What Everybdy Is Saying by Je Navarr. “It changed hw I cmmunicated with everyne,” she says. While apprximately 80% f ur interactins with each ther are nnverbal — frm birth, ur bdy language sends ut clues t what we’re thinking, and Stach says, “We can learn t exercise cntrl ver it.”
Becming aware f her wn bdy language, the physician recgnized her preferred way f sitting with her arms and legs crssed. While it was cmfrtable fr her, patients cnsidered it discmfrt with them. She fund the same t be true with eye cntact. “I dn’t make much eye cntact with peple because it makes me uncmfrtable,” Stach says, “but it makes thers think I’m inattentive.”
Armed with the knwledge, she began uncrssing her arms and legs and making mre eye cntact when in cnversatin, “Using psitive bdy language helps strengthen patient interactins, and nce these habits becme natural, yu may ntice yur patients are mre receptive t yur advice,” she says.
“Talking with patients at eye level is imprtant,” Stach says. “It shws them that I’m here t listen t what they have t say and t make jint decisins abut their healthcare.” She recmmends that physicians lwer their eye level as much as pssible by sitting n a lw chair facing their patient while the patient remains seated n the exam table.
Eye cntact is anther imprtant element. “If yu’re typing ntes int yur cmputer withut lking at yur patients — even if yu are listening and can say everything they said, yur bdy says yu aren’t listening,” Stach says. “And yu n lnger have a clsed space f attentin with each ther.”
Anyway, bdy language can send a message f care and trust, “In medicine, we’re ften in ur patient’s face during a medical exam, but when talking with them, being t clse may be intrusive, especially in Western cultures where we have brader persnal bdy cmfrtable distance,” Stach ntes. “But in Eastern cultures that distance is much narrwer. S, when interacting with peple frm these cultures, stepping back is seen as ffensive(冒犯的) — that’s smething t keep in mind.”
8.Hw did Christina Stach get better at using bdy language?
      A. By keeping practicing it in her family.
      B. By reading a related bk.
      C. By learning a lt frm prfessinals.
      D. By cmmunicating with patients.
9.Why did Christina Stach change her sitting psture and eye cntact?
      A. T achieve better care results.
      B. T feel mre persnally cmfrtable.
      C. T shw her prfessinal skills.
      D. T enhance her specialized knwledge.
10.What is Christina Stach’s suggestin fr physicians talking with patients?
      A. Aviding frequent eye cntact.
      B. Making decisins fr the patients.
      C. Repeating everything the patients said.
      D. Psitining themselves n lwered seats.

      D
Faced with bidiversity lss wrldwide, prtected areas are set aside t prvide wildlife with a safe space. Cnservatinists ften fcus n species cunts when measuring success. But are these prtected areas ding enugh t preserve the entire structure f ecsystems? This questin is at the heart f a new study frm Swansea University.
The relatinships between rganisms play a key rle in eclgical balance. That a hawk (鹰) hunts smaller birds r a sngbird feeding n insects reflects interactins that keep ecsystems wrking. T figure ut if prtected areas help keep this eclgical balance, the Swansea team examined the structure f fd webs. They used data frm platfrms like eBird, where vlunteers recrd bird sightings. This allwed the experts t track 509 bird species acrss 45 eclgical netwrks frm Spain t Finland.
Using this large database, the team cmbined bservatinal bird recrds with knwn predatr-prey (捕食者-猎物) links. Fr example, if a hawk feeds n smaller birds, that relatinship was mapped. The team cmpared fd webs inside prtected areas t thse in surrunding nn- prtected areas. They als lked at habitat diversity, the percentage f frest and agricultural land, and levels f human pressure.
The netwrks inside prtected areas tended t have mre species verall. Intermediate-level species were mre cmmn. Als, predatrs inside prtected areas tended t be larger in bdy size, bth at the tp and middle levels f the fd web.
Hwever, the length f fd chains and the cnnectivity f species within the web did nt shw cnsistent imprvement. Generally, areas that were mre remte r had higher habitat diversity had healthier fd webs. Human pressure and the amunt f nearby farmland had a strng influence, t. Interestingly, areas under the Eurpean Bird Directives shwed strnger psitive trends. This suggests clearer cnservatin planning makes a difference.
The research shws relatinships between species are equally vital. Prtecting ne bird species is gd. Ensuring that it still plays its eclgical rle — as predatr, prey r pllinatr (传粉者) — is better. Cnservatin needs t think abut netwrks, nt just the number f species saved.
12.Why did the Swansea team examine the structure f fd webs?
      A. T understand the effectiveness f cnservatin effrts.
      B. T shw the cnsequence f human pressure n wildlife.
      C. T prve the psitin f predatrs in ecsystems.
      D. T test the species cunts in prtected areas.
13.Hw was the finding f prtected areas accrding t paragraph 4?
      A. Wrrying.B. Unsatisfactry.C. Encuraging.D. Regretful.
14.What caused the fd web differences?
      A. The lcal culture.B. The envirnmental factr.
      C. Financial supprt.D. Peple’s safety awareness.
15.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. The Future f Glbal Bidiversity
      B. The Directin f Prtected Areas in Cnservatin
      C. The Purpse f Species Cunts in Eclgical Balance
      D. The Imprtance f Species Relatinships in Ecsystems

When peple scan a special card with their phnes, 3D mdels f the buildings will pp up, and they can "walk thrugh" the halls, even seeing details like traditinal carvings — this way, they'll feel fully immersed in the culture's charm.
