T knw bdy language better, Christina Stach, a 25-year-ld healthcare prvider, read What Everybdy Is Saying by Je Navarr. “It changed hw I cmmunicated with everyne,” she says. While apprximately 80% f ur interactins with each ther are nnverbal — frm birth, ur bdy language sends ut clues t what we’re thinking, and Stach says, “We can learn t exercise cntrl ver it.”
Becming aware f her wn bdy language, the physician recgnized her preferred way f sitting with her arms and legs crssed. While it was cmfrtable fr her, patients cnsidered it discmfrt with them. She fund the same t be true with eye cntact. “I dn’t make much eye cntact with peple because it makes me uncmfrtable,” Stach says, “but it makes thers think I’m inattentive.”

The relatinships between rganisms play a key rle in eclgical balance. That a hawk (鹰) hunts smaller birds r a sngbird feeding n insects reflects interactins that keep ecsystems wrking. T figure ut if prtected areas help keep this eclgical balance, the Swansea team examined the structure f fd webs. They used data frm platfrms like eBird, where vlunteers recrd bird sightings. This allwed the experts t track 509 bird species acrss 45 eclgical netwrks frm Spain t Finland.
Using this large database, the team cmbined bservatinal bird recrds with knwn predatr-prey (捕食者-猎物) links. Fr example, if a hawk feeds n smaller birds, that relatinship was mapped. The team cmpared fd webs inside prtected areas t thse in surrunding nn- prtected areas. They als lked at habitat diversity, the percentage f frest and agricultural land, and levels f human pressure.
The netwrks inside prtected areas tended t have mre species verall. Intermediate-level species were mre cmmn. Als, predatrs inside prtected areas tended t be larger in bdy size, bth at the tp and middle levels f the fd web.
Hwever, the length f fd chains and the cnnectivity f species within the web did nt shw cnsistent imprvement. Generally, areas that were mre remte r had higher habitat diversity had healthier fd webs.
