Fr years, Canada has been ne f the few wealthy cuntries withut a natinal schl fd prgram. Instead, we have small, lcal prgrams that depend n piecemeal funding, and vlunteers. That’s set t change. This past April, the gvernment f Canada dedicated (拨付) $1 billin ver five years t create the Natinal Schl Fd Prgram, which will ffer meals t hundreds f thusands f kids annually starting this year.
Pr diet is a widespread issue in Canada, affecting children frm all incme (收入) levels. Many children eat t many prcessed fds like granla bars and candy, while nt getting enugh fruits and vegetables. Even my kids dn’t eat well during the schl day.
Prviding healthy meals at schl, where children spend much f their time, is a great way t imprve their diets and reduce health prblems. Students wh use these prgrams get better grades and dn’t miss schl as much. Fr example, in ne study f a mrning meal prgram in the Trnt District Schl Bard, students wh ate a mrning meal mst days in a schl week did better in areas like independent academic wrk, class participatin and prblem-slving.
Right nw, schl fd prgrams are ften aimed at needy kids. Sme students wh culd benefit frm schl fd prgrams may nt participate because they dn’t want t be seen as pr. But the study frm the U. S. tells us that when all kids are invited t participate, the shame related t the prgram vanishes. I expect we will gradually see universal prgrams like that rll ut.
Under a natinal plicy, schl fd prgrams will cntinue t vary. Different places have different needs. The gvernment culd hst a meeting f internatinal experts t help us learn frm the best schl fd prgrams arund the wrld. If we’re ging t put the mney in, we need t make sure that the prgrams are the best they can be.
28.What is the prblem facing Canada accrding t the text?

The American burying beetle (葬甲) has seen its ppulatin ntably fall due t habitat (栖息地) lss and a drp in wildlife species. Once widespread in 35 U. S. states and three Canadian prvinces, it is nw fund nly in small pckets in 10 states.
Hwever, recent data shw a psitive change. In suthwestern Nebraska’s Less Canyns, the beetle ppulatin has increased ver the last decade. This is the first reginal grwth since the beetle was listed as endangered in 1989. Researchers reprt this finding in the January Bilgical Cnservatin.
Caleb Rberts, a research eclgist, calls this success the best result in prtecting nature. “The increase in beetle numbers is a hpeful sign fr the health f the surrunding grassland ecsystems,” he says.
American burying beetles clean up dead bdies, which helps recycle nutrients (营养物) in the envirnment. The beetles need carcasses that weigh between 100 t 200 grams, rughly the size f a small rabbit, t feed themselves and their yung. Hwever, the number f suitable carcasses has drpped as many species that nce prvided fd, such as prairie dgs and passenger pigens, have disappeared.
Frm 2007 t 2019, researchers studied beetle ppulatins in the Less Canyns by using dead labratry rats as bait. The data shwed an increase f 17% in beetle numbers, frm 168 t 196 beetles acrss all traps. The beetles strngly prefer Nebraska’s native grasslands, especially when these areas are free frm invasive trees like eastern red cedar. If grasslands cver abut 75% f the area, beetle ppulatins are expected t duble. Hwever, when tree cver increases, beetle numbers drp a lt.
The psitive trend in the Less Canyns is due t effrts by ver 100 private landwners wh have wrked t restre their grasslands by reintrducing fire t cntrl cedar tree grwth. This has helped reduce tree cver and created a mre diverse habitat, which supprts mre wildlife, including the beetles.
32.What can be learned abut American burying beetles?
      A. They used t have a large ppulatin.
      B. They caused damage t wildlife habitat.
      C. They are the best hunter in Nrth America.
      D. They are fund nly in Canadian prvinces.
33.What can we infer frm paragraph 4?
      A. Dead bdies harm natural envirnment.
      B. The grwth f grassland lies in the beetle.
      C. It's gd practice t get clse t nature.
      D. The beetles play a key rle in ecsystems.
      34.American burying beetles prefer t live __________.
      A. in the rainfrestB. in the grassland
      C. n the farmlandD. n the leafy island
35.Which is the mst suitable title fr the text?
      A. The Past Years See a Change in Weather
      B. A Farm Was Built fr the Burying Beetle
      C. A Threatened Insect Is Making a Cmeback
      D. The Less Canyns Are Hme t All Beetles
