My daughter recently expressed interest in riding mre. We live in a small city, and bicycles are a ppular transprtatin chice here. I was excited at her chice. She wuld sn learn hw easy it is t get arund in this way, and hw fast she can ride n tw wheels. Bike turs are ften quicker than bus r cab r car trips are.
Much t my surprise, nne f this mattered t her. On ne f ur first trips tgether, I was fixing n the rute ahead- turns, arrival time- when she said, “Hey Dad, wanna knw a riddle?”
And then, befre I explained hw unsuitable this was, hw we shuldn’t be telling jkes while riding, and hw we shuld be fcused n the rad, n reaching ur destinatin as sn as we culd, she started, “What lasts frever but never dies?”
This is hw it’s been. She has shared stries frm the past, hpes fr the future. I have been challenged t ride backward and t stretch legs ut n bth sides.
Nne f these have been dangerus, mind yu. My daughter des nt ride withut prper care. She pulls even with me, fr instance nly n wide, empty streets. When the car appears, she quietly slips behind me and hlds bth eyes t the rad. As sn as cnditins f basic safety are met, thugh...
“Dad, slw dwn! Isn’t this a lvely neighbrhd?” my daughter asks.
It is a lvely neighbrhd. I’m surprised, I’ve cme this way cuntless times, but never have I nticed any f this. Farther dwn the rad, the laughter f children cmes ut frm a game f ball.
I make a prmise. Frm nw n, I’m ging t mve mre slwly n these rides. I’m ging t ntice the neighbrhds we mve thrugh. I’m ging t enjy this.

There has been tremendus cncern recently ver misinfrmatin n scial media. This cncern is quite justifiable, as the cnsequences f believing false infrmatin are greatly affecting the individual and cllective health.
Many peple tend t fall fr misinfrmatin they encunter nline. There is ne influential explanatin fr this phenmenn. As the thinking ges, smene, wh pssesses very limited skills in finding and cnsuming digital cntent, creating digital cntent, and cmmunicating it, is likely t have difficulty recgnizing false infrmatin and thus is mre vulnerable t believing false infrmatin. As a result, these less digitally literate peple may play a significant part in the spread f misinfrmatin.
This argument sunds perfectly plausible. Yet very little research has actually investigated the link between digital literacy and the vulnerability t believing false infrmatin. There’s even less understanding f the ptential link between digital literacy and what peple share n scial media. A grup f MIT researchers explred these ptential assciatins by surveying 1341 Americans.
In the experiment, the researchers first shwed the participants tw dzen news headlines abut plitics, half f which were accurate, and half f which were false. In the secnd phase, they included a series f tests: having the participants reprt their familiarity with varius Internet-related terms and answer questins abut hw scial media platfrms decide what t shw in their newsfeeds. At last, the participants were required t assess the accuracy f a set f headlines and pint ut their likelihd f sharing each headline n scial media.
The researchers fund “clear evidence” that digital literacy was a strng predictr f accuracy discernment (识别能力). Hwever, the results were “strikingly different” regarding sharing discernment. Digitally literate subjects were just as likely t share inaccurate infrmatin. Mst surprisingly, even peple with high digital literacy were nt immune frm clicking “share” fr false news.
This sunds dd. Althugh mst peple dn’t want t spread misinfrmatin, scial media is distracting: peple are scrlling quickly, and their attentin is drawn t scial validatin (社会认知度), such as hw many likes their psts will get. S make sure a certain pst is accurate befre yu click the “share” buttn.
8. What des the ppular thery abut peple’s believing nline misinfrmatin highlight?
A. The ability t engage in the digital spaces.
B. The ppularity f cnsuming digital cntent.
C. The lw cst f spreading misinfrmatin nline.
D. The significance f limiting fake infrmatin nline.
9. What des the wrd “plausible” underlined in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
A. Distinctive.B. Sensible.C. Distant.D. Meaningful.
10. What did the researchers aim t d in the secnd phase f the study?
A. Test respndents’ attitudes twards plitical news.
B. Figure ut respndents’ favrite nline cntent.
C. Assess respndents’ willingness t share psts.
D. Determine respndents’ levels f digital literacy.
11. What can the researchers cnclude abut digital literacy frm the experiment?
A. It can be enhanced thrugh practice.
B. It varies due t peple’s plitical beliefs.
C. It desn’t stp the spread f misinfrmatin.
D. It isn’t helpful in identifying misinfrmatin.
D
Lately, it feels like technlgical change has entered an incredible speed. Cmpanies like OpenAI and Ggle have unveiled new Artificial intelligence systems with incredible capabilities, making what nce seemed like science fictin an everyday reality. It’s an era that is raising big, existential questins fr us all, abut everything frm the future f human existence t the future f human wrk.
“Things are changing s fast,” says Erik Brynjlfssn, a leading, technlgy-fcused ecnmist based at Stanfrd University. In this new wave, it’s the less experienced and less skilled wrkers wh benefit the mst. “And that might be helpful in terms f clsing sme f the inequality that previus technlgies actually prmted,” Brynjlfssn says. S ne benefit f intelligent machines is — maybe — they will imprve the knw-hw and smarts f lw perfrmers, thereby reducing inequality.
But it’s als pssible that AI culd lwer the prfit f the experienced, smart, r knwledgeable nes. AI culd reduce inequality by bringing the bttm up, and it culd als reduce inequality by bringing the tp and middle dwn.
Of curse, as Erik put it, it’s als pssible that AI culd end up increasing inequality even mre. Fr ne, it culd make the Big AI cmpanies, which wn these pwerful new systems, wildly rich. It culd als empwer business wners t replace mre and mre wrkers with intelligent machines. And it culd kill jbs fr all but the best f the best in varius industries, wh keep their jbs because maybe they’re superstars r because maybe they have senirity.
The effects f AI, f curse, are still very much being studied — and these systems are evlving fast — s this is just an assumptin. This machine intelligence culd upend much f the previus thinking n which kinds f jbs will be affected by autmatin.
12. Why did the authr mentin OpenAI and Ggle in paragraph 1?
A. T intrduce the tpic.B. T give an example.
C. T illustrate its tpic.D. T emphasize the imprtance f technlgy.
13. Wh will gain mre in this new AI era?
A. The senir with high rank.B. The learned with great credit.
C. The new with little experience.D. The pr with practical skills.
14. Which statement will Erik prbably agree with?
A. The fast develpment f AI will widen the divisin f inequality.
B. The best f all walks f life will survive the cmpetitin against AI systems.
C. Giant AI cmpanies will be the winner in the future wrld f new AI systems.
D. Lwer rank wrkers with little knwledge are bund t be abandned by emplyers.
15. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
A. The Fast Grwth f the WrldB. The Influence f the Inequality
C. The Future f the AI GeneratinD. The Impact f the AI System
