Scial cnflicts, frm plicy debates t family disagreements, can easily develp int angry wrds and persnal attacks. Such heated cnflicts, hwever, seldm settle disagreements and can lead t wrse utcmes. A better apprach t dealing with interpersnal(人际的)disagreements is t apply characteristics f wisdm, like intellectual humility(恰当的谦逊),diverse viewpints, and penmindedness. But applying these elements f wisdm can be difficult, especially during cnflicts. The trick, accrding t a new research published in the jurnal Psychlgical Science, is t train yurself in advance t reasn abut interpersnal cnflicts in a wiser manner.
“Peple typically fail t reasn wisely when facing scial cnflicts, s we designed a way t help them,” said Igr Grssmann, directr f the Wisdm and Culture Lab at the University f Waterl, Canada.“Our basic idea was t train peple t see situatins frm a mre bjective, thirdpersn angle. This apprach enables peple t recgnize the limits t their knwledge, acknwledge different ways the cnflict may lead t, and cnsider and balance multiple viewpints.”
Accrding t the researchers, by switching the angle frm the first persn t the third persn, a persn becmes better able t evaluate their wn knwledge and appreciate alternative views.
T test their hypthesis(假设), the researchers cnducted tw field experiments. Grssmann said, “Our research shwed effectiveness f the thirdpersn diary writing fr a change in wisdm cmpared t the firstpersn diary reflectins, and that the distancedselfreflectin led t gradual develpment in wise reasning abut persnally challenging incidents.” The data suggest that this increase in wise reasning ccurred because the distancedselfreflectin bradened peple's typically narrw selffcus. This research prvides the first empirical (实验的)evidence fr the trainability f wisdm in daily life when peple are wrking thrugh challenges.
