Every runner is unique, and a she that wrks fr ne might trip up anther. Outside f trying n different designs, there’s n quick and easy way t knw which she best suits a persn’s particular running style. MIT engineers are hping t change that with a new mdel which integrates a persn’s height, weight, and ther general dimensins, alng with she prperties such as hardness. With this input, the mdel then simulates (模拟) a persn’s running gait (步法) in a particular she.
While the mdel can accurately simulate changes in a persn’s running gait when cmparing tw very different she types, it is quite futile when cmparing relatively similar designs, including mst cmmercially available running shes. Fr this reasn, the researchers believe the current mdel culd just be used as a tl fr she designers lking t push the bundaries f she design.
The team is planning t imprve the mdel, in hpes that cnsumers can ne day use a similar versin t pick shes that fit their persnal running style. “We’ll allw fr enugh flexibility in the mdel s that it can be used t understand different individual behavirs,” says Sarah Fay, an MIT researcher. “Way dwn the rad, we imagine that if yu send us a vide f yurself running, we culd 3D print the she that's right fr yu. That wuld be the mnsht.”
Fay and c-wrkers drew inspiratin frm Thmas McMahn, wh nce used a very simple mdel t simulate a runner’s essential running dynamics. Using this mdel, he predicted hw fast a persn culd run n varius track surfaces. “McMahn’s wrk shwed that, even if we dn’t mdel every single muscle and cmpnent f the human bdy, we still can create valuable insights int hw we design fr athletic perfrmance,” Fay says. Fllwing McMahn’s lead, the team develped a similar, simplified mdel f a runner’s dynamics.
28. What d the MIT engineers aim t d?
A. Identify the apprpriate running style fr peple.
B. Predict a runner’s perfrmance in running races.
C. Determine suitable running shes fr individuals.
D. Raise the appearance and quality f running shes.

The glbal shipping industry is alne respnsible fr three percent f the ttal greenhuse gas emissins (排放)humans prduce. If left unaddressed, in a few decades, it will accunt fr ver 10 percent f the ttal man-made emissins.
A new study frm MIT researchers reveals a practical slutin t this prblem. The study authrs have develped an emissin-free apprach t prduce hydrgen (H₂) fuel, which generates nly water when burned, fr cmmercial ships. They als claim they can make hydrgen fuel using easily accessible resurces.
This isn’t the first study prpsing the use f aluminum (a silver-gray metal that sda cans are made frm) fr prducing hydrgen fuel. It’s already well knwn that when aluminum and water react, hydrgen is frmed as ne f the byprducts. Such chemical reactins, hwever, cme with a srt f a dilemma: It nly wrks when aluminum is used in its pure state. The mment aluminum meets with xygen, such as in air, its surface immediately frms a prtective layer that prevents further reactins.
During their study, the researchers turned recycled sda cans int small aluminum balls. They pretreated the aluminum balls with a rare-metal ally (合金) that effectively purifies aluminum, making it int a pure frm that can react with seawater t generate hydrgen. The salt ins (离子) in the seawater can in turn attract and recver the ally, which can be reused t generate mre hydrgen. The team fund that this reactin successfully prduced hydrgen gas, thugh slwly.
They experimented with different chemicals including the nes that are typically fund in kitchens and realized that adding cffee made a difference. “A lw cncentratin f caffeine is enugh t prduce the same amunt f hydrgen in just five minutes, cmpared t tw hurs withut it,” the study authrs nte. “The next part is t figure ut hw t use this fr trucks, trains, and maybe airplanes,” Aly Kmbargi, lead study authr, said.
32. Hw can the MIT researchers cntribute t the shipping industry?
A. By prviding a clean energy surce.
B. By develping new fuel strage methds.
C. By imprving fuel efficiency in existing ships.
D. By planning mre cnvenient shipping rutes
33. What is the challenge when making hydrgen frm aluminum?
A. Hydrgen is t expensive t make.B. The chemical reactin happens t slw.
C. Aluminum easily reacts with xygen.D. The metal surface prevents further reactins.
34. What can be inferred abut the MIT researchers’ hydrgen generatin prcess?
A. It requires large quantities f ally.
B. It prduces significant waste chemicals.
C. It creates hydrgen in a sustainable cycle.
D. It generates hydrgen with lw purity.
35. What can be the best title fr the text?
A. Hydrgen Fuel: A Game Changer f Transprtatin
B. Cans+ Seawater+ Cffee: A Greener Shipping Future
C. Cffee: The Secret Substance fr Clean Shipping Fuel
