A new study, published in Nature, has revealed that baby lggerhead turtles perfrm a lively jig when their preferred places t feed are nearby. The discvery suggests that they use magnetic fields (磁场) as signpsts, detecting the unique features f a particular feeding grund and celebrating when they find them. The turtles’ dance mves include leaning their bdies vertically, hlding their heads abve the water, pening their muths, waving their frnt flippers and spinning in place.
Researchers prepared tw water tanks t match the magnetic features f tw lcatins-a site in the Gulf f Mexic and anther near New Hampshire, in the US-and cnditined the turtles t assciate ne with fd. They fund that there were significantly higher levels f turtle dance behaviur when in the feeding tank, even if there was n fd, suggesting that the lggerheads culd distinguish between the magnetic fields. Even mnths later, the turtles cntinued t recgnize the feeding tank.
“Sea turtles can detect bth intensity f the magnetic field and inclinatin angle-the angle that magnetic field lines meet Earth’s surface,” study authr Dr Kayla Gfrth tld BBC Science Fcus. “These tw cmpnents vary predictably acrss the glbe and turtles use this t determine map infrmatin.”
The researchers plan t explre this“magnetic map” ability further. “We wuld like t dig int what the mechanism f the map might be, as well as hw sensitive their ability t detect magnetic fields really is. Fr example, what is the smallest difference in magnetic fields that turtles can sense?” said Dr. Kayla Gfrth. “Understanding these aspects culd prvide valuable insights int the cmplex navigatin systems f sea turtles and help t prtect their habitats and migratry rutes.”

根据第二段中“A new study, published in Nature, has revealed that baby lggerhead turtles perfrm a lively jig when their preferred places t feed are nearby. The turtles’ dance mves include leaning their bdies vertically, hlding their heads abve the water, pening their muths, waving their frnt flippers and spinning in place.(发表在《自然》杂志上的一项新研究表明,当蠵龟幼龟喜欢的觅食地点就在附近时,它们会欢快地跳一种jig。海龟的动作包括垂直倾斜身体、把头伸出水面、张开嘴巴、挥动前鳍和原地打转)”可知,这里描述的是海龟会欢快地跳类似跳舞的动作,所以“jig”最有可能是一种舞蹈。故选A项。

【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中Dr. Kayla Gfrth的话“We wuld like t dig int what the mechanism f the map might be, as well as hw sensitive their ability t detect magnetic fields really is. Fr example, what is the smallest difference in magnetic fields that turtles can sense?(我们想深入研究这“磁地图”的机制是什么,以及它们探测磁场的能力到底有多敏感。例如,海龟能感知到的磁场最小差异是多少?)”可知,研究人员在后续研究中会探索海龟磁感知的敏感度。故选C项。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Turtles are knwn fr their extrardinary navigatin (导航) abilities they’re capable f travelling acrss ceans t return t the same nesting and feeding grunds thrughut their lives.(海龟以其非凡的导航能力而闻名——它们一生都能穿越大洋回到相同的筑巢和觅食地)”以及后文介绍的海龟利用磁场辨别方向和研究人员的相关实验可知,文章主要讲了海龟利用磁场导航和寻找食物。故选A项。

Reverse psychlgy is part f a phenmenn f psychlgy called “reactance” (逆反). “The idea f reactance is that peple are deeply mtivated t prtect their freedms,” says Jeff Greenberg, a prfessr f scial psychlgy at the University f Arizna.
When peple feel that their freedm is threatened fr example, they think smene is taking away their ability t make their wn chices—they react against that threat. Thus, they may feel angry r defensive and try t reverse the threat. Essentially, reverse psychlgy takes advantage f a persn’s reactance. Take, fr example, a kid wh wn’t eat his carrt. When a parent says, “Yu can’t eat the carrt”, suddenly, eating it becmes mre appealing t the kid.
Hwever, this strategy desn’t always wrk. Greenberg ntes that it wrks best n peple wh are mre prne (易于) t reactance, such as thse wh are shrt-tempered, stubbrn, r emtinal. On the cntrary, mre agreeable and bedient peple tend t be less prne. “There’s als sme limited evidence that men are a little mre prne t reactance than wmen,” he adds.
The effectiveness f reverse psychlgy als varies with age. Between the ages f tw and fur, children can be mre emtinal and mre rebellius, s they are mre susceptible (易受影响的) t this apprach. But by the age f fur, kids generally becme better behaved and less likely t lse their temper, which means they becme less susceptible t this technique. Similarly, during adlescence, when teens ften challenge parental authrity, reverse psychlgy can be effective, as teens may tend t d the ppsite f what is suggested.
Yunger kids, wh are less cgnitively develped, might nt ntice when parents use reverse psychlgy, while adults are mre likely t see thrugh it. “Attempts t use reverse psychlgy n adults can fail,” Greenberg says. “They may resist being cntrlled, leading t the ppsite effect. But there’s n reasn t say it wn’t wrk n adults. It just has t be very subtle.”
32. Accrding t Jeff Greenberg, what is the primary reasn fr reactance?
A. Defending freedm.B. Gaining attentin.
C. Aviding making chices.D. Handling pssible threats.
33. What is the authr’s purpse in mentining “carrt” in paragraph 2?
A. T prve that children universally dislike carrts.
B. T argue parents shuld never tell their children what t d.
C. T demnstrate reverse psychlgy can influence behavirs.
D. T explain why reverse psychlgy is a ppular parenting strategy.
34. Wh is mre likely t be influenced by reverse psychlgy?
A. A gd tempered 4-year-ld girl.
B. A rule-fllwing 6-year-ld child.
C. A calm and agreeable 30-year-ld wman.
D. An authrity-challenging 15-year-ld by.
35. Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the text?
