When yu think f a rbt, yu might picture smething with a lt f sensrs(传感器), and inflexible metal arms cntrlled by a cmputer. But scientists at the AMOLF Institute have created a rbt that has n brain and n sensrs. It carries its wn battery-pwered pump (泵). And yet this rbt can “walk” by itself.
Hw is this pssible? The team behind the rbt says the secret is in the science f hw air mves. If yu’ve ever seen a “tube (管子) dancer” walking arund, then yu’ve seen the science that makes this rbt wrk. Tube dancers are tall thin tubes f clth, thrugh which air is pumped. High pressure frm the pumped air fills the tube, making it stand up.
Similarly, the pressure caused by the flw f air is exactly what drives the rbt. When the air starts t flw in the tubes, the tubes mve in different ways. But very quickly, all f these “legs” start t mve in exactly the same way, making the rbt walk. The rbt’s speed is cntrlled by the air pressure.
There are several ntable things abut the rbt. The first is its speed. The rbt can cver a distance equal t thirty times the length f its bdy in a secnd. That wuld be like the wrld’s fastest man, Usain Blt, running the 100-meter race in 1.71 secnds.
The rbt als adjusts smthly t its cnditins. It can g ver uneven grund. If it runs int a wall, it naturally turns. Perhaps the mst surprising is the fact that if the rbt is drpped int water, it begins mving in a new way that allws it t swim.
As there’s n brain, the scientists say their new inventin is really just a machine. But it’s a machine that can d several cmplicated (复杂的) tasks that wuld nrmally require lts f very difficult prgramming fr a rbt.
S far, the rbt can cnduct mst f the tasks with ease. The researchers say that in the future they hpe t develp new ways t cntrl the rbt and perhaps give it mre skills.
32. Why is the tube dancer mentined in paragraph 2?
A. T make the rbt’s wrking principle easy t understand.
B. T intrduce anther impressive inventin.
C. T present the inspiratin fr the rbt.
D. T stress the rbt’s uniqueness.
33. What enables the rbt t mve frward?
A. The human peratr.B. The cmputer-cntrlled system.
C. The air pressure.D. The cmbinatin f batteries and sensrs.
34. What can we learn abut the rbt frm the text?
A. It requires cmplicated prgramming.
B. It may have mre functins added in the future.
C. It can beat Blt in running.
D. It features a higher intelligence level than ther rbts.
35. Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the text?
A. The Science f Air Pressure.
B. The Develpment f Rbts.
C. Sensr-Free Rbt Challenges Traditinal Views.
D. Rbts Are Faced with Energy-Saving Requirement.
【答案】32. A 33. C 34. B 35. C

【33题详解】细节理解题。根据第三段中“Similarly, the pressure caused by the flw f air is exactly what drives the rbt.(同样,空气流动产生的压力正是驱动机器人的动力)”可知,是气压让机器人能够向前移动。故选C。
【34题详解】推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The researchers say that in the future they hpe t develp new ways t cntrl the rbt and perhaps give it mre skills.(研究人员表示,他们希望在未来开发新的方法来控制机器人,并可能赋予它更多的技能)”可知,未来机器人可能会增加更多功能。故选B。
