Yet subsequently, the teens questined their prpsed inventin due t sharp-tl risks. Cncerned abut the

academic, encuraged them, “Inventin advances; changes and adjustments are cmmn — that’s the prcess.”
Despite the change in plans, Estabrks praised the cmmunity-centered apprach.
With renewed determinatin, the team reslved t develp a tl t mnitr bld xygen levels in diabetics
feet. This shift was essential and demanded cnsiderable effrt. Avila Pined recalled the team invested every spare
mment in research.
Each team member perfrmed specific functins in the prcess. Avila Pined led — the develpment f the
sensr (传感器) that measured bld xygen levels. Lacking prir technical skills, Avila Pined determined t
emply nline resurces t acquire hw t build the electrical system and finally built the sensr. “Inventin ffers

Yu can buy a lt f things frm a vending (售卖) machine including cffee, sft drinks, and snack fd. But
hw many vending machines can give yu freshly grwn greens? It is said that an Israeli startup is wrking n a
special vending machine — called a Prduce Integrated Cultivatin Instrument (PICI) — that actually grws
healthy and high-quality leafy vegetables inside. And the best part is that PICI can d it faster than grwing greens
in the field.
The vending machine features multiple shelves fr varius leafy greens and herbs, each prviding tailred
cnditins fr ptimal grwth. An irrigatin (灌溉) system ensures plants receive the right amunt f water, while
an Al-pwered camera mnitrs their prgress. When ready, plants are dispensed fr cnsumptin. “It’s like a
small factry that grws and supplies the prduce,” said Elitzur, the funder f the startup.
The PICI has ther benefits t. Because the machine is filled with seeds inside f capsules and nt whle
plants, it makes shipping cheaper, strage easier, and avids damaging plants in transit.
The startup was funded in early 2023, after Elitzur realized that the greens grwn glbally wither quickly t
travel a lng distance t get t market and t cnsumers. The greens ften d nt arrive in peak freshness. “These
types f crps need t be kept in the refrigeratr and have a shrt life, which is an issue,” he said. Elitzur believes
that with increased urbanizatin and climate change, current agricultural methds and the fd supply chain frm
seeds t harvest have t be changed.
The PICI unit will cnslidate the fresh prduce chain t reduce fd waste and bring fresh greens t
cnsumers as quickly as pssible. That’s why the vending machines were develped as a way t grw fresh greens

where the end users are; in supermarkets, restaurants, htels, and hspitals. This will free up farmers t use their
fields t grw ther needed vegetables in a mre efficient and sustainable way.
32. Why is the PICI special cmpared with traditinal planting?
A. It can make greens grw faster. B. It needs less manpwer.
C. It has a brader sales channel. D. It can grw mre types f vegetables.
33. What is the secnd paragraph mainly abut the PICI?
A Its supply categries. B. Its planting cnditins.
C. Its distinctive features. D. Its mnitring technlgy.
34. What is the purpse f the PICI?
A. T imprve crp yields. B. T keep vegetables fresh and green.
C. T develp new types f vegetables. D. T make fd transprt mre cnvenient.
