Reprting in Prceedings Bilgical Sciences, researchers fund that a species f branching cral(珊瑚)benefited frm a reef-dwelling crab(寄居蟹), especially when the cral was heat-stressed and wunded. The findings supprt the idea that psitive species interactins can reduce cral reefs frm multiple envirnmental threats.
“Fundatin species like crals create the base f an ecsystem: They frm structures that ther species use fr shelter and prvide fd fr ther rganisms. Learning hw these species respnd t stress can help us design better strategies t cnserve them—and, in turn, ther species that rely n them,” said first authr Julianna Renzi.
Fr their study, Renzi and clleagues cllected samples f a type f branching cral frm a designated research area during a heat wave. They placed the cral samples in tanks fed with seawater and expsed them t ne r a cmbinatin f treatments, including physical wunds, a harmful algae(藻), and crabs. Fr each treatment, they measured cral tissue lss ver the curse f a mnth t measure cral health.
The team fund that high water temperatures appeared t cause tissue lss in the cral samples. Hwever, the amunt f tissue lss varied depending n the experimental treatment. Fr example, the presence f algae increased the prbability f significant tissue lss by six-fld cmpared t treatments withut algae. By cntrast, crab tankmates decreased the risk f majr tissue lss by mre than 60%cmpared t treatments withut crabs.
Surprisingly, crabs seemed particularly beneficial t the wunded crals, which experienced less tissue lss than either uninjured crals expsed t crabs r injured crals withut a crab. What’s mre, cral wunds rarely grew when crabs were present but, in sme cases, appeared t expand in the absence f crabs.
Further studies suggested that crabs avided living cral tissue, instead feeding in areas f recent tissue lss. The team bserved that wunded crals lst algae faster than uninjured crals. The finding suggests that crabs and ther rganisms might remve the algae—in effect, cleaning their habitat.
The team’s findings supprt an eclgical cncept that psitive species interactins may be particularly imprtant under envirnmental stress and culd ptentially cntribute t sme species’ resilience against stressrs.

B.They tested the effect f climate change n crals.
C.They emplyed varius ways t deal with cral samples.
D.They made a list f factrs affecting the health f crals.
33.What des the authr want t shw in paragraph 4?
A.Algae is the biggest threat t crals.
      B.Water temperatures can benefit crals.
C.The tissue lss f crals happens anytime.
D.The treatment decides the crals’ injury degree.
34.What is the significance f the findings?
A.They can cntribute t cral preservatin.
B.They can help t slve mre puzzles f the sea.
C.They can partly settle the glbal warming prblem.
D.They can imprve the relatinships between species.
35.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A.Crabs Mainly Survive n Crals
B.Cral Tissue Can Get Damaged Easily
C.Species Cmpete against Each Other t Survive
D.Heat-stressed Crals May Benefit frm Cral-dwelling Crabs
