The desert sun blazed dwn like a thusand furnaces, scrching the sand beneath ur feet. My yunger brther, Le, and I had been lst fr three days since ur jeep brke dwn in the Sahara. Our water bttles were empty, and ur thrats felt like they’d been rubbed with sandpaper.
“I’m s thirsty, Elias,” Le whispered, his vice cracking. His lips were cracked and bleeding, and his eyes, usually bright blue, nw lked dull and sunken. I tried t smile reassuringly, but my wn tngue stuck t the rf f my muth like glue.
Suddenly, Le stumbled and fell t his knees. “I can’t… g n,” he gasped, clutching his stmach. Panic surged thrugh me. If he gave up nw, we’d bth die here.
“Listen t me, Le,” I said, gripping his shulders. “We’re almst there. I saw a camel caravan n the hrizn yesterday. They’ll have water.”
He shk his head weakly. “Yu’re lying. There’s nthing ut here.”
Just then, a gust f wind kicked up a clud f sand. Thrugh the haze, I sptted smething glinting in the distance—a metal canister! My heart raced. Culd it be water?
