Music filled the silence f the practice rm. Our teacher made the dance lk s easy when she was demnstrating it herself. Her mvements flwed naturally with the rhythm f the music. Her eyes filled with cnfidence while she lked at herself in the mirrr. Her dancing appealed t me.
Finishing the demnstratin, she tld us, “It’s yur time t shine!” Over the curse f fur mnths, we practiced week after week as we prepared fr ur final perfrmance: a real perfrmance with an actual audience. That thught f standing nstage in frnt f a cheering crwd gave me instant stage fright.

On the day f the perfrmance, recalling the way my teacher danced attracted me that first day, I entered the stage. I culdn’t see the audience thrugh the bright sptlights. It was all dark arund us, which made me less nervus. I nly fcused n my bdy, my mind, and the music. My mind was empty; I lst myself in the dance. I succeeded. They plan t take stem cells frm a living species with similar DNA, and then use gene-editing technlgy t “bring back” the extinct species - r an extremely clse ne f it.
It wuld be a great achievement fr the researchers attempting it, and require a number f scientific breakthrughs.
The ppulatin f Tasmanian tigers drpped when humans arrived in Australia tens f thusands f years ag, and again when dinges—a species f wild dg—appeared. Eventually, the species nly lived free n the island f Tasmania, and was finally hunted t extinctin.
