“Nt nly is it great fr the kids because they can learn a new skill that they can carry with them and actually use with ther peple that they meet, but I think it is great because equal inclusivity (包容性)and equal access is s imprtant, ” Janet said. “It's just smething that we dn't ften see. ”

Mdern breeds(狗的品种)are ften recgnized by physical traits. Breeds are frequently assciated with certain behavirs, t. But new evidence suggests that the breed is a pr predictr f yur dg's behavirs. A study cllected genetic infrmatin frm mre than 2, 000 dgs. That infrmatin was paired with answers t surveys by thusands f dg wners. On average, the breed explains nly 9 percent f the behaviral differences between individual dgs, the study shws.
Elinr Karlssn, wh wrks at the University f Massachusetts Chan Medical Sch1 in Wrcester, studies dg genetics. “Everybdy is assuming that the breed is predictive f behavirs in dgs, ” she said. But “that has never really been asked particularly well”.
The team needed genetic and behavir data frm a lt f dgs. S they develped Darwin's Ark. It's a database where pet wners can share infrmatin abut their animals. Mre than 18, 000 wners tk part. They answered mre than 100 questins abut their dg's traits and bservable behavirs.
The researchers als cllected genetic data frm 2, 155 dgs. The team made sure t include bth pure-bred and mixed-bred dgs, r mutts. Steretypes(刻板印象)abut purebreds culd affect hw thse dgs are treated-and thus behave. Mutts dn't cme with the same expectatins. S mutt data culd help fcus n hw genes seem t affect behavirs.
The team then cmbined the genetic and survey data fr individual dgs. They lked fr genes that appeared linked t particular traits. Cmfrt arund peple emerged as the behavir- al factr mst strngly tied t genetics. Mvement-based behavirs are als passed dwn thrugh genes mre than ther traits.
That makes sense. Mdern breeding has nly been arund fr the last few hundred years. Befre that, dgs were chsen fr hw well they did jbs, such as hunting r herding. The effects f thse chices still shw up in breed grups tday. It's nt surprising, then, that a breed as a whle might be mre likely t display certain behavirs. As their name suggests, retrievers(寻回犬)are mre likely t retrieve than individuals f ther breeds. But in the study, breed didn't always predict hw an individual dg wuld behave. As a grup, retrievers were less likely t hwl. Sme wners, thugh, reprted their retrievers hwled ften.

B. T help pet wners find their dgs.
C. T cllect infrmatin f rare dgs.
D. T learn mre abut dgs' behavirs.
30. Why can mutts help study links between genes and behavirs?
A. Peple have steretypes f them.
B. There is less infrmatin abut them.
C. Their breeds are less predictive f behavirs.
D. They shw mre distinct traits than pure-bred dgs.
31. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Dgs are as smart as peple
B. We may be unfairly steretyping dgs
