      Cats dn’t always respnd when peple talk t them, but they may be listening mre clsely than we think. Accrding t the results f a new study, they can learn t assciate (联系) spken wrds with images.
      A research team led by Sah Takagi f Azabu University in Japan ran an experiment (实验) with 31 cats. They gave the cats a wrd and picture test that is usually given t human babies. Researchers played a recrding f the cats’ wners saying a meaningless wrd: either “parum” r “keranu”. While listening t each wrd, the cats were shwn either a picture f a red sun r a blue - and - white unicrn n a screen. The pictures wuld grw bigger r smaller t catch the cats’ attentin. The cats were shwn the wrd - picture pairs several times. Finally, they gt used t them and started t shw researchers they were bred.

      Mst cats seemed t develp a wrd - picture assciatin after tw nine - secnd training sessins. That’s faster than hw human babies learn the cnnectins in similar experiments, which is really surprising.
