Examples f venting anger include shuting r hitting smething like a cushin, s that yu let g f the emtin and therefre dn’t feel it any mre. The pair lked at 154 ther studies n anger. These invlved 10, 189 peple, and included a variety f ages and backgrunds. In their study, Kjaervik and Bushman define anger as “an emtinal respnse (反应) t a real r imagined threat (威胁)”. They used a thery f emtin (情绪假说) that says emtins are partly felt in yur bdy and partly in yur mind.
The scientists lked at the ther studies t see hw different activities influenced anger. They fund that activities such as running r bxing—which are ften thught t be gd fr dealing with anger—weren’t very gd at reducing it. In fact, sme f these activities actually made it wrse because they increased physical respnses in the bdy that are linked t feeling angry. Fr example, they made peple’s hearts beat faster. Hwever, activities that decreased physical respnses in the bdy did help t reduce feelings f anger. These included activities that slw the heart rate, such as deep breathing, meditatin and yga. Bushman says activities that increase physical respnses may be gd fr heart health but are “definitely nt the best way t reduce anger”.
The team fund jgging was mst likely t increase anger. Hwever, sme heart-rate increasing activities—like ball games and team sprts—culd reduce anger.
