Ecnmist Tyler Cwen argues that traditinal interview methds are nt effective in determining the best candidates fr a jb, especially in creative rles. Candidates wh are well-prepared ften pass these interviews, but this nly tests their preparatin and nt their abilities.
T determine the best candidates, Cwen suggests that interviewers cncentrate n authenticity (真实性) and spntaneity (自发性) in their interactins with candidates, rather than relying n pre-written questins.
The interviewer shuld be trustwrthy, Cwen argues, as it helps them better evaluate the authenticity f candidates. Eventually, “better talent allcatin (分配)” cntributes t ecnmic grwth, and mre thughtful interview methds can help identify mre talented individuals and elevate them t greater pprtunities. Cwen adds, “There are t many interview questins, and every interviewer is ready. Fr example, ‘What mistakes did yu make in yur previus jb?’ But many candidates just didn’t prepare well and didn’t prvide a gd answer. S in mst cases, fr better candidates, yu are actually just preparing fr testing. But fr mre creative jbs, yu will lse candidates with ther qualities.”
“Hw t get peple int what I call the “Real Mde” largely depends n wh they are, as well as wh yu are. If I am interviewing a candidate, my favrite discussins are just thse withut scripts. I prefer t have these cnversatins withut asking questins. I hpe they are natural. I like spntaneity — hw t achieve it depends n the envirnment, wrk, hw much time yu have, and many ther factrs.”
An estimate suggests that since the 1960s, 20% t 40% f US ecnmic grwth has cme frm “better talent allcatin”. If we had a fresher and mre creative interview prcess, I d think peple wuld be mre thughtful. They will think mre deeply abut the wrk they will be engaged in. I think we will find talents that we haven’t seen s far. We will enable mre peple t have greater pprtunities.”

The new app culd help change that.
“We were the first t d this, and it was designed as a tl fr hikers r thers wrking utdrs,” says Nathan Byd, a prfessr at the UF/IFAS Gulf Cast Research and Educatin Center. “The app uses a camera t identify in real time if pisn ivy is present and prvides yu with a measure f certainty fr the detectin. It als functins even if yu are nt cnnected with the Internet.”
The next step is t make the app cmmercially available, and there’s n timetable fr that yet, Byd says.
Fr the study, researchers cllected thusands f images f pisn ivy frm five lcatins.
They labeled images, and in each image, scientists put bxes arund the leaves and stems f the plant. The bxed images were critical because pisn ivy has a unique leaf arrangement and shape. Scientists use thse characteristics t identify the plant.
They then ran the images thrugh AI prgrams and taught a cmputer t recgnize which plants are pisn ivy. They als included images f plants that are nt pisn ivy r plants that lk like pisn ivy t be certain the cmputer learns t distinguish them.
“We believe that by integrating an bject-detectin algrithm, public health, and plant science, ur research can encurage and supprt further investigatins t understand pisn ivy distributin and minimize health cncerns,” Byd says.

Situated Learning Thery (SLT), first presented by Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger, explains the prcess and develpment f learning when individuals have the pprtunity t participate in a cmmunity f practice. In such a cmmunity, new learners have mre pprtunities t practice within the cntext f learning. In this light, learning is unintentinal. This unintentinal nature f learning is what the authrs call Legitimate Peripheral Participatin (LPP) In LPP, the learner mves frm the edge f the cmmunity t the center. At first, they participate arund the edge and gain expertise until they becme mre skilled and becme experts.
A similar thery is Situated Cgnitin (认知), prpsed by Jhn Seely Brwn, Allan Cllins and Paul Duguid. Their understanding ges deeper int the scial nature f learning and argues that learning cannt be remved frm the situatins in which expertise is gained and merely be applied in schl. The culture f cnventinal schling influences what is learned, and decntextualized instructin des nt lead t effective learning.
SLT has been used in schl settings t imprve teaching and learning. It’s imprtant, hwever, t ntice that althugh the schl ffers the scial cntext fr learning, it smetimes falls shrt in the use f this thery. The cnstructin f knwledge needs t be put in a prper and accurate cntext where learners can participate and apply what is learned. The nature f situated learning and the emphasis n LPP as a way t understand hw learning develps can be applied in instructin t understand and design learning prcesses.
SLT is f great value in many ways. It brings t the table the imprtance f recgnizing learning as a series f activities ging beynd just sharing cntent. The interactin f the learner and the expert in the cmmunity f practice and the develpment f the frmer int a level f expertise tgether in a cntextualized setting are what finally supprts knwledge cnstructin.
12. What can we learn frm Paragraph 1?
A. Students must study under the guidance f experts.
B. Participating arund the edge is crucial t learning.
C. Special cmmunities are harmful t unintentinal learning.
D. Learners can be experts by acquiring knwledge thrugh LPP.
13. What is the cmmn grund f SLT and Situated Cgnitin?
A. Expertise is merely frm cntent-sharing.
B. Learning shuld happen in a related setting.
C. Effective learning is the result f decntextualizatin.
D. Cnventinal schling influences the way f learning.
14. What can be inferred frm Paragraph 3?
A. Schl needs t lwer the expectatins f SLT.
B. Learners must be taught the theretical nature f SLT.
C. Schl shuld fcus n the accurate applicatin f SLT.
D. Teaching prcess relies n the academic instructin f SLT.
15. Why is SLT f great significance accrding t the last paragraph?
A. Because it helps enrich the learning prcess.
B. Because it reveals the imprtance f expertise.
C. Because it stresses the necessity f learning.
D. Because it explains the internal lgic f teaching.

上文“The Internet ffers us an pprtunity t knw mre peple with very little effrt.(互联网为我们提供了一个只需很少努力就能认识更多人的机会)”说明了互联网在交友方面的作用。
上文“The Pew Research Center finds that 57% f American teens make new friends nline. Hwever, it als finds that mst“digital friendships”just stay in the digital space,(皮尤研究中心发现,57%的美国青少年在网上结交新朋友。
上文“S, is the Internet bad fr relatinships? Obviusly nt.
上文“83% f teen scial media users believe that scial media makes them feel mre cnnected t their friends’lives.(83%的青少年社交媒体用户认为社交媒体让他们与朋友的生活联系更紧密)”表明社交媒体的积极作用,下文“68% f teen scial media users reprt having experienced unpleasant feelings tward their friends n scial media.26% f all teens have had an argument with a friend ver smething that happened nline.(68%的青少年社交媒体用户表示在社交媒体上对朋友有过不愉快的感觉。 故选A。
下文“But this link must be based n intimacy and familiarity. And a balance f nline and ffline interactins will pave the way fr better relatinships in the wrld.
句子“where varius cultural exchange events will 1 (hld)”中,主语 “varius cultural exchange events(各类文化交流活动)” 与 “hld(举办)”是被动关系,且空前有情态动词 will,所以用一般将来时的被动语态will be held。故填be held。
“cncert(音乐会)”与“cnferences(会议)”、“visits(访问)” 、“events(赛事)”并列,作 “include(包括)” 及 “t” 的宾语,其它名词用复数,所以 “cncert” 也用复数形式 cncerts。
故填 a。
“Supachai Panitchpakdi”、“Brut Pahr” 和 “ther ntable figures frm hme and abrad”是并列关系,用 and 连接。故填 and。
在宾语从句“ that the dialectical thinking 6 (include) in I - Ching resnates (引起共鸣) with Western philsphy...”
根据上文“Alngside the launch event, Meng engaged in... hme and abrad.”
“harmny(和谐)”是名词,其形容词形式为 “harmnius(和谐的)”,所以此处应填“harmnius”。
“10 can help the fragmented mdern wrld reintegrate”这部分是一个缺少主语的非限制性定语从句,先行词是“the wisdm f balance and harmny in Chinese traditinal culture”,先行词指物,在非限制性定语从句中作主语,应用关系代词 which 引导该从句。故填 which。
